PHILLIP PARSH, PRESIDENT
Tara Board of Directors
There are some exciting projects that are being implemented around the club. The most noticeable is the remodel and update of the three restrooms near the front entrance and will be completed in mid-October. The repair of the front of the clubhouse irrigation system is underway and should be completed in early September. This upgrade will allow us to continue to make improvements to the landscaping and beautification around the clubhouse grounds.
The plan to enlarge the V and VI tee boxes on holes 8 and 18 will be completed this summer.
The vacant lot development project is very close to being started as we work with Manatee County and our contractors to finalize the contracts.
As you may be aware our GM Tim Shaeffer has resigned, and we wish him well in his future endeavors. Your Board is working with Hampton Golf to find a replacement. Greg Nesbitt has joined us as interim GM and will fill the gap until we find a new GM.
Our next scheduled Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for September 30th at 3:00 in the clubhouse dining room.
I would like to thank everyone for their continued support.
TARA’S MISSION: The mission of Tara Golf & Country Club is to provide an exceptional private country club experience while maintaining the club’s reputation as a financially sound and highly valued community where Members enjoy outstanding golf, vibrant amenities and social camaraderie.
MESSAGE FROM GREG NESBITT, INTERIM GENERAL MANAGER
gnesbitt@taragcc.com
I would like to thank all of Tara for making me feel so welcome. I am pleased to be serving as Interim General Manager until a permanent GM is selected. This is my second stint at Tara as I was at the Club earlier this year assisting with the management transition. I certainly appreciate your patience as I continue to get my arms around the Tara operation.
In talking with several of our year-round Members, it sounds like this has been an unusually hot and humid summer. I know everyone is looking forward to the cooler temperatures that are just around the corner. Speaking of weather, I was welcomed by Hurricane Debby during my first weekend on the job – I would like to thank the Management Team at Tara for their help during an eventful few days!
Kudos to Don and his Team for all their hard work at getting the golf course reopened 3 days after Debby. Fortunately, it does not appear as if any major damage occurred on the golf course. As of this writing, course conditions have steadily improved after receiving 14+ inches of rain on August 4th and 5th.
The General Manager search is going well across multiple outlets using Club Management Association of America (CMAA), PGA of America (PGA), Indeed, and other related job boards. We have gained a strong response from candidates that are being vetted by the Hampton Golf Management Team. We have begun the interview process with those most qualified and are committed to identifying a General Manager to best oversee Tara Golf & Country Club.
The clubhouse restroom renovation project started on August 12th and currently is on schedule. We expect the project to take approximately eight weeks and ask that you please use the restrooms at the golf shop or the back of the main dining room during construction. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
I would like to follow up on last month’s update regarding the concrete and foundation repair work adjacent to the putting green and driving range. The work will have been performed by the time you receive this update, and we will continue to monitor this area to make sure the surface remains safe and smooth.
I hope you have a fun and safe Labor Day holiday!
Greg Nesbitt

COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Verticutting and Topdressing is done to the golf course in order to provide excellent conditions on the greens. This cultural practice is as relevant as drinking water, eating and sleeping for humans. Golf course maintenance verticuts and topdresses on a bi-weekly basis to promote the health of the greens and to provide for a smoother ball roll. Below are the benefits of Verticutting and Topdressing.
• Verticutting removes thatch, reduces grain and forces the remaining turf to stand up straight and smooth the putting surface for better ball roll.
• Verticutting opens the turf canopy to allow in more sunlight and also to promote water and nutrient penetration.
• Vertical mowing allows the plant to put more energy into growing upright shoots instead of lateral shoots.
• Verticutting, thins the turf canopy creating space for topdressing sand to be worked into the soil and thatch layer.
• Topdressing produces a smooth, firm putting surface.
• Topdressing controls thatch, improves drainage and improves biological balance.
• Topdressing protects the crown of the plant.
• Improves soil composition, by creating a less compaction prone growing medium. This helps turf cope better with stress brought on by heat and overuse.
Although verticutting and topdressing can be disruptive to play at times this cultural practice is necessary for the health of the greens and to have optimum putting green surfaces.
The following is the aerification schedule for the rest of the summer.
September 9th – 11th Final Aerification

Dear Tara Residents,
Hurricane Debby was a formidable storm, dumping over 15 inches of rain in our area, but our community emerged unscathed from the storm’s wrath! While we experienced some localized street flooding, the effectiveness of our drainage systems prevented any significant damage to homes or structures.
Many of you were kind enough to check on neighbors and their properties, and to know to stay at home until the worst of the rain and flooding passed.
Our local emergency management team deserves special thanks in keeping us informed and prepared. If you haven’t signed up for alerts from Manatee County regarding storms, please do so at your earliest convenience, using this website - https://www.mymanatee.org/departments/public_safety/ emergency_management/alertmanatee
While the storm has passed, it’s important to remember that hurricane season isn’t over yet. Let’s continue to support each other and maintain our preparedness for any future challenges.
Sincerely,
Kim Loskota

From Karen Cardozo, TMA Landscaping Chair | Irrigation System Update: “We have been experiencing ongoing irrigation issues in multiple areas along Tara Blvd, from State Road 70 to Tara Preserve Lane. Members of the Tara Master Association Landscape Committee have typically identified any issues that they find and report them to the vendor, Alexander’s Property Maintenance.
Since discovering irrigation issues can be challenging for a small committee, I’m asking for your assistance. If you see something, please contact Resource Property Management and report the approximate location of the problem. Resource Property Management can be reached at: lakewoodfrontdesk@ resourcepropertymgmt.com or 941-348-2912. Any assistance you can provide to us is appreciated - we want to make sure we keep our wonderful community looking its best!”

Greetings members! The House Committee continues to share our progress this month to update you on our ongoing plans to beautify, modernize, and welcome you to our wonderful club.
With the irrigation project almost completed, we will begin to re-evaluate our plans to beautify the landscaping around the clubhouse.
The demolition of the three front club house bathrooms has been completed, and the facelift has now begun. Please be sure to use the two bathrooms located at the far end of the dining room during this process. We’re excited to follow along with the remodel of these front bathrooms, which should be completed by the end of September.
Be on the lookout for new lunch and dinner menus which will be introduced in September.
We’re proud to announce the release of our Refresh project’s 3-D video. It is the prototype for the Architect and Interior Designer to use as we create our Refresh project. It does not include the future colors, furniture, location of the two service bars, lighting and art, which are final, personalized details that our Interior Designer will complete as the project progresses.
