TARA COMMUNITY NEWS

MESSAGE FROM

It is good to see that our up north neighbors and friends have returned, and our busy winter season is underway.

The vacant lot project is starting to take shape, and we are all looking forward to the new pickleball amenity. The expectation for completion is this August.

I would like to thank the house committee for bringing to the community an initiative to modernize and update our clubhouse. The owners will need to approve this update for this to move forward. The voting packet was sent out on January 3rd, if you have not received this packet please contact the Tara office. We have scheduled a Member meeting to count the votes on Monday February 10th at 9:00am.

The 2024,2025-board season is winding down and there will be three vacant board positions, each for a three-year term. If you are interested in filling one of the positions pick up a form from the Tara office. You will need to return your resume to the office no later than February 21st at 5:00pm.

I would like to thank everyone for their continued support.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TAKING CARE OF THE GOLF COURSE: A GUIDE FOR PLAYERS AND HOSTS

As stewards of the game, golfers bear a collective responsibility to preserve the quality and integrity of the course. Whether you’re playing casually with friends or hosting guests, the care you show for the course directly impacts everyone’s enjoyment. Beyond respecting the game’s traditions, taking care of the course ensures its longevity and playability for years to come. Here’s why it matters and how you can do your part.

FILLING DIVOTS: REPAIRING THE COURSE FOR OTHERS

One of the simplest yet most impactful ways to care for a golf course is to repair divots. Every swing that takes a chunk of turf leaves a mark, and leaving it unrepaired compromises the quality of play for those following you.

• Why It’s Crucial: An unrepaired divot can lead to uneven lies, hinder turf recovery, and create unsightly damage. By filling divots with s and and seed or replacing the displaced turf, you help maintain the course’s appearance and playability.

ENCOURAGING GUESTS TO FOLLOW THE RULES

If you’re hosting Guests on the course, part of your role is to ensure they respect the course’s rules and etiquette. A few key areas often overlooked include staying off restricted areas, adhering to cart path rules, repairing ball marks and being properly dressed.

• Why It’s Important: Golf courses operate under strict maintenance schedules and environmental considerations. Ignoring rules, such as driving carts in sensitive areas, can damage grass and soil, leading to costly repairs.

• How to Be a Good Host: Brief your guests on course policies before play, this includes the dress code. Emphasize the importance of replacing divots, repairing ball marks on greens, and respecting cart path rules. By leading by example, you create a positive experience for everyone.

PACE OF PLAY: KEEPING THE GAME MOVING

One of the most common frustrations in golf is slow play. Respecting pace of play is as critical as course care, as it impacts the enjoyment of everyone on the course.

• Why It’s Vital: A slow pace can disrupt the rhythm of other groups and diminish the overall golfing experience. Maintaining a good pace ensures everyone can enjoy their round without unnecessary delays.

• Tips for Maintaining Pace:

• Be Ready to Play: Use the time while others are hitting to select your club and plan your shot.

TARA GOLF HAPPENINGS CONT.

MESSAGE FROM MISSY WILLIAMS, HEAD GOLF PRO 941.758.7961 x1226 | mwilliams@taragcc.com

• Play “Ready Golf”: In casual rounds, encourage the group to play when ready, rather than strictly adhering to honors.

• Limit Practice Swings: Take only one or two practice swings before each shot.

• Be Mindful of Time: On the green, read your putt while others are preparing to putt and limit prolonged discussions.

Slow play can significantly impact other golfers on the course in several ways:

1. Disrupts the Pace of Play: It creates delays, forcing other groups to wait on every shot, which can be frustrating and disrupt the flow of their game.

2. Reduces Enjoyment: Waiting frequently can break concentration and reduce the overall enjoyment of the round for other players.

3. Increases Round Duration: A slow pace often leads to longer-thanexpected rounds, making it difficult for golfers with tight schedules to finish on time. This can be true with weather. Slow play can make a long round seem longer if it’s cold or too hot.

4. Affects Course Operations: It can cause backups throughout the course, potentially impacting tee times and creating scheduling issues for other club members.

5. Fosters Tension: Persistent slow play can lead to frustration, poor etiquette, and tension between groups, diminishing the camaraderie of the game.

Maintaining a steady pace of play is essential for ensuring that everyone on the course has an enjoyable and efficient experience. If you cannot keep up, playing at less busy times would help your enjoyment.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF GOOD ETIQUETTE

When golfers care for the course and adhere to etiquette, the benefits are far-reaching:

•Better Playing Conditions: A well-maintained course is more enjoyable for all players.

•Enhanced Reputation: A group or host who shows respect for the course reflects positively on themselves and the game.

•Lower Maintenance Costs: Proper care reduces the time and money required for course upkeep, which can help keep greens fees reasonable.

Let’s keep the game we love thriving. It starts with each of us.

DIVOT REPAIR

A divot is a piece of turf that is taken from a tee or fairway when a golf club strikes a ball. With the amount of play that Tara Golf and Country Club gets the amount of divots adds up very quickly. An unrepaired divot could take up to three to four weeks to heal if not repaired properly. The proper way to repair a divot is to take a scoop of green sand and empty it into the divot. Then take the bottom of your foot and smooth out the pile of sand. Smoothing out the sand will do two things. First, Bermuda grass grows laterally and by smoothing out the divot the Bermuda grass has a better surface to grow into and the healing time will be reduced by half. Second, by smoothing out the surface, the golfer is using proper etiquette by providing a level surface for the players behind him. Everyone knows what it is like when their ball lands in an unfilled divot. It is a much tougher shot compared to hitting a ball from a level surface. Beginner or pro, it is your responsibility as a golfer to repair your own divots to make the game of golf fair for everyone. The game is difficult enough without having your ball lie in an unfilled divot. If you are a real steward of the game, take extra green sand with you and fill other unrepaired divots while you’re waiting for your next shot. Remember to take sand with you so you can fill your divots on the cartpath only holes.

TARA MASTER COMMUNICATION

MESSAGE FROM KIM LOSKOTA, PRESIDENT

Dear Tara Residents,

As we move into winter, the board continues to work on projects for 2025.

One project getting more attention is the Florida Power and Light project that will add new power poles and lines along our side of SR70. FPL needs the new power lines for redundancy. This will improve the ability to have additional power connectivity, especially during storms. We were without power for 4 days after Hurricane Milton and that is part of the issue that is being addressed with this project. The new poles will be reinforced concrete with nearly zero chance of going off-line versus the old wood poles which are susceptible to high winds.

As we know more about the full impact of this project on our property, email updates will be sent to all homeowners.

The TMA needs your email address! If homeowners have not yet logged into the Condominium Associates portal, please do so. It’s recommended that you add your email address to ensure you receive the most updated information from the TMA.

The February TMA board meeting is February 20, 2025, at 9:30am at the Preserve Community Center. Please join us to keep up to date with TMA activities.

Sincerely,

TARA MASTER COMMUNICATION

MESSAGE FROM DEB MAZZAFERRO, TMA DIRECTOR

The Tara Master Association (TMA) Landscape Committee is offering monthly workshops to educate the Tara community about Florida gardening principles, including native Florida plants and the Tara protocols for specific neighborhoods. At each meeting we leverage experts from the county, state, and local organizations to save you money and ensure your gardening success.

This final seminar is open to all of Tara, which includes the Golf and Country Club (TGCC) and Tara Preserve residents. Whether or not you manage a landscape, you’ll gain a wealth of knowledge about our natural environment. We hope to inform you about the possibilities available to us collectively and individually to enhance our community and improve property values by managing wetlands, pests and beauty. Please attend to learn more about Florida’s unique eco-system.

DID YOU KNOW? FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Did you know that Tara has a Hole-n-One Club? Don’t lose out on a pocket full of SWEEPS for golf shop purchases!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS AND HOW TO JOIN:

Contact Jill at jorologio@taragcc.com or see her in the Administration Office to let her know you want to join in on the fun! That’s all it takes and you’re now a member of the club.

HERE HOW IT WORKS:

1. Each time a Member of the club gets a Hole-n-One he or she is declared a WINNER and ALL Hole-n-One Club Members will be charged 4.50 to their Member account.

2. Members of this exclusive club then have one week from the day of publicly posting the winner’s name in the Grill Room to redeem a beverage of choice.

3. The number of club Members who do not redeem their beverage from the Grill Room within the designated week get tallied up.

4. We then multiply the $4.50 by the number of those who did NOT indulge in a beverage from the Grill Room.

5. That cash balance is then awarded to the WINNER’S ACCOUNT in forms of SWEEPS for purchases in the golf shop. Winnings have been anywhere between $400- $850+ in SWEEPS (not redeemable for cash).

Don’t Miss Out – Join Now!

Did you know that there are five (5) Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) located within Tara Golf and Country Club?

You’ll find them secured on the wall in the clubhouse near the grill room entrance, the fitness center entrance which serves fitness center and the pool, the golf cart barn entrance, the pro shop back wall and the golf course maintenance building. Please check them out next time you are near these locations.

Each AED device is clearly marked with an AED overhead sign and EMERGENCY DEFIBRILLATOR across the front of the enclosed case. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are life-saving devices designed to treat sudden cardiac arrest by delivering a shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm. AEDs are critical because they can significantly increase the chances of survival from 10% up to 70%, if used within the first few minutes of a cardiac emergency.

To help increase awareness and understanding of the AEDs, there will be an informational seminar held on Feb 25th at Tara Golf and Country Club that we invite all interested Tara Members to attend. Ruth Landes from “Landes Emergency Training Services” will conduct this seminar where you will learn how to correctly perform CPR, apply an AED, and activate emergency response in the event of an SCA – Sudden Cardiac Arrest. It is equally important to learn how to help someone who is choking as this too can result in someone becoming unresponsive and not breathing. Most bystanders fear being sued when it comes to helping. Our goal is to remove that fear by sharing the Good Samaritan Laws that outline how you are covered as a bystander.

We encourage all Tara Members to attend the upcoming session as the more we know about AEDs , the better it is for all of us.

HOUSE COMMITTEE - FROM OUR HOUSE TO YOURS

Greetings Members!

The House Committee extends our heartfelt thanks to the Tara Membership for your ongoing support of the Refresh Project. We have had multiple workshop presentations at the club for members to see our Refresh concepts and to ask questions regarding the project. The ballots have been mailed to all members so you may vote on this exciting project. Please be sure to return your ballot before the Member Meeting on February 10 at 9:00 am in the Clubhouse Dining Room. If you have not received your ballot, they are available in the Administration office at the clubhouse.

The House Committee continues to work on many other upcoming projects to enhance the appearance and functionality of the clubhouse. As always, we welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

Here’s to making great memories, meeting new friends, or exploring a new activity this year! Enjoy your club!
