HGA is an interdisciplinary design firm committed to making a positive, lasting impact for our clients and communities through research-based, holistic solutions. We believe that great design requires a sense of curiosity—forming deep insight into our clients, their contexts, and the human condition.
As a collective of design professionals working together across 12 offices, diverse backgrounds, and disciplines, we seek to understand and optimize all aspects of each unique environment: human experience, cultural significance, technical rigor, systems performance, and resiliency.
HGA offers a full complement of architecture, planning, design, research, and engineering services. Clients and project teams tap into HGA's Design Insight Group (DIG), a growing collective of process engineers, practice-based researchers, design thinkers, anthropologists, and data scientists. They individually and collectively help clients rethink and shape their future through the design process. HGA’s planning and design process for community hospitals and health centers is multifaceted. We respond to varied program needs to create innovative environments that truly support patients, families, and healthcare providers.
We engage our clients and develop design solutions that directly relate to their needs. The result is an efficient, cost-effective, and flexible space that responds to the true needs of patients, families, staff, and the communities our clients serve.
CANCER CENTERS
HGA has a great depth of knowledge and experience when it comes to designing oncology, cancer centers, and infusion clinics in both inpatient and outpatient settings. From the planning of oncology and clinical research facilities to the design of therapeutic treatment spaces, HGA’s patient-centered process ensures those who are ill receive their care in a holistic and healing environment.
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS
The emergency department is often the first point of contact with a medical facility, and experiences there can significantly affect how patients feel about the overall quality of care they receive at the hospital. One of the biggest components of patients’ emergency department experience is how long they have to wait before and during care.
At HGA, we understand what it takes to create a safe, inclusive, and stress-free environment specific to emergency departments.
PEDIATRICS
Pediatric patients are complex – the range of patients served in pediatric facilities is unlike any other institution. From infancy through early adulthood, each patient comes with a unique set of needs specific to their diagnosis. The design must be sensitive to the child’s emotional needs and their physiological disease or injury, providing comfort, and reducing stress for not just the child but the whole family.
HGA’s design for pediatric facilities is adaptable, responding to the varied needs of patients, families, and hospital staff. Spaces facilitate interaction and healing through playrooms, whimsical art, range in furniture sizes, and a connection to nature.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
It is important that behavioral health spaces are safe, comfortable, and supportive for patients and staff. Each patient is in their own unique place along the continuum of care and the changing needs of each person is an inevitable part of behavioral health spaces.
HGA has extensive experience in behavioral health design and a commitment to providing high-quality spaces that encourage dignity and support all those who live, visit, and work within them.
