COMPONENT OPERATION / AXLE

・Differential

The differential turns the power from the reduction gear box in the rectangular direction and decreases the speed of the power to increase the torque. Further, when the machine swings or it travels on the rough road surface, the differential changes the left and right wheel speeds so that the machine can move smoothly.

Operation principle of differential

When the machine travels in a beeline under the condition that the road surface on which the left and right wheels move are equal or when the load to be applied to the left and right wheels are equal, the same torque acts on the left and right side gears (2) within the differential case (4), the pinion (1) turn together with the differential case (4) and the left and right wheels turn at the same speed. On the other hand, when the loads to be applied to the left and right wheels are different, for example, in swinging, the torque acting on the left and right side gears (2) are different and thereby each pinion (1) revolves round the side gear (2) of which the resistance is greater while it turns on the spider (5) to drive the other side gear (2) for performing the differential action.
