Driving on public roads

For driving on public roads, the specific Road Traffic Regulations applicable in the country of use must be observed. Our Service will be pleased to answer any queries in this respect.

Turn the levelling blade into travelling position (Fig. 2) so that the blade does not project over the dotted line.

For driving on public roads, the brake-pressuredependent gearbox cutout function must be off (see section "Brake-pressure-dependent gearbox cutout function")

Take the following steps before driving on public roads: Clean the machine to remove gross dirt. Block the center-pivot joint. Check the brakes, steering, tyres and the lighting system. Switch off the floodlamps. Lower the splash-guards on the front wheels (Fig. 1)

Check the wheel lean hydraulic cylinder for proper operation. For checking, move control lever (72, Fig. 3) several times from limit stop to limit stop.

With front levelling blade attached: - Raise the front levelling blade with control lever (71, position 10) to such an extent that the levelling blade position pointer (Fig. 4) is in alignment with the yellow road travel marking. - Set the shutoff valve for the dozer cylinder to position B (Fig. 5). With the rear ripper (1, Fig. 6) attached: bring the teeth (6) into transport position. Lower the teeth protection (2) down on the end of the teeth. - Move the rear ripper up against the limit stop using control lever (64, Fig. 7).

Set the lever (4, Fig. 8) on ripper cylinder (5) to position "B" in order to secure the rear ripper against inadvertent movements. Block all functions of the working equipment. To do so, turn the the locking knobs (60 and 78, Fig 9) in opposite direction. Check that the control levers are locked up.

Before putting the machine into operation

40001378.00-en

Before putting the machine into operation, the following checks must be performed: 1. Check the level of all fluids in the machine (engine oil, hydraulic oil and coolant) and make sure all oils and the coolants are suited to the respective operating conditions. 2. Carry out the servicing works that have to be performed every day. 3. Inspect the machine, examine for possible leaks and check the hoses. Retighten and replace, if needed. 4. Observe the instructions set out under "Run-in period" when the machine is new or has been overhauled. 5. Check the tyres for apparent damage. Replace or repair as needed. Check the tyre inflation pressure and correct, if necessary. 6. Clean the steps and handrails. Grease, oil, mud or ice (in winter) on the steps and handrails may cause accidents. Make sure, that steps and handrails are always clean. 7. Clean the stickers and replace those that have become illegible. 8. Make sure that the engine access panels and all doors are duly closed and locked up. 9. Secure the cab door in completely closed or completely open position. 10. Remove all obstacles which might reduce your field of vision. Clean the windscreen, the windows and the rear-view mirrors. 11. Make sure no tools or other objects have been left behind on the machine or in the cab. 12. Make sure nobody is under or on the machine. Only the driver is allowed to stay on the machine. 13. Make sure no other persons are within the working range of the machine. 14. Familiarize yourself with the safety measures applied at the place of work. 15. Fix an escape route from the machine (emergency exit through the 2nd door, hinged windows) in case a cab door is blocked or the machine topples over. 16. Before driving or working in the dark, make sure all lighting and signalling systems are fully operational.

WARNING: Check the machine before each new phase of operation for proper functioning of the steering system, brakes, hydraulic control elements, instruments and protective devices. Check that the gearshift lever is in NEUTRAL position. A machine working correctly helps to avoid accidents. Make all necessary repairs and adjustments before putting the machine back into operation. Risk of severe or fatal injuries in case of non-compliance with this instruction.

17. Adjust the driver's seat so that you can reach the pedals without having to move forwards away from the backrest. 18. Put on the safety belt and adjust it as required. 19. When the engine is running and after reaching the operating temperature, check that all instruments on the instrument panel work correctly. 20. Check the grader controls for proper operation.
