DIESEL ENGINE CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL Park the machine on firm, level ground to check the engine oil level. Turn the engine off and wait a few minutes for the oil to collect in the oil pan. The oil must be between the minimum and maximum mark on the dipstick 1 (fig. 1).

CAUTION The engine oil is very hot at or near operating temperature. Avoid contact with hot oil and components containing oil, since it could cause severe burns.

1

CHANGING THE ENGINE OIL To drain the oil : To change the oil, bring the engine to operating temperature. Open the cover on the uppercarriage below the Diesel engine. Attach the oil drain hose (fig. 2, pos. 6) to the drain 7 and drain the oil into an appropriate container.

DANGER

2

For safety reasons, with your machine fitted with a high rise undercarriage, you must employ a lifting platform to have access to this drain fitting. (Only authorized persons are allowed to drive a lifting platform). Preferably employ a drain hose long enough to collect the worn oil into a container standing at ground level below the excavator. If you attempt to drain the oil into a container placed on the lifting platform, you must in any case previously make sure that the platform is suitable (lifting capacity and stability), considering the container filled with the expected oil quantity to be drained. To replace the oil filter element (fig. 3 ) : Remove the filter element. Clean the sealing surface on the filter mount.

3

CAUTION Be careful when removing the filter cartridge to avoid contact with hot oil . Lightly lubricate the seal with oil and tighten the filter element, using both hands. Add oil (fig. 4) to the upper mark of the dipstick . See Maintenance and lubrication chart for oil quality, oil quantities and oil change intervals.
