Your vehicleis fittedwith a sophisticated electronicanti-theftalarmsystem.In orderto ensuremaximumsecurity, you areadvisedto gain a fullunderstandingof the systemby thoroughlyreadingthissectionof the handbook.

LOCKINGTHE VEHICLE ANDARMINGTHE ALARM You havebeen suppliedwith two handset/keys(numbered1 and 2). Whilstboth areidenticalin operation, they transmittwo differentsetsof information(see ’Key activatedmemoryseats’).Replacement handsetsareonly availablefrom a Land Rover retailer.Up to two furtherhandsets(3 and 4) can alsobe obtained. Therearefour methodsfor securingyour vehicle: 1. ’Superlocking’ using the handset(recommendedhigh securitymethod). 2. ’Superlocking’ using the key. 3. Lockingusing the handset. 4. Lockingusing the key.

FORMAXIMUM SECURITY,ALWAYS ’SUPERLOCK’ THE VEHICLE USINGTHE HANDSET (exceptwhen the vehicleis to be lockedwith passengersor animalsinside). IMPORTANTINFORMATION Emergencykeys

In additionto the two handsets, you have alsobeen suppliedwith two separate keys.Thesekeysperformthe same functionsas the keypartof the handset and areintendedfor emergencyuse only.

DONOTkeepthe keysinsidethe vehicle. The handset The radioremotehandsethas threebuttons (describedbelow).By pressingthe appropriatebutton, the handsetcan be used eitheras a conventionalkey,or as a remote handsetto eitherlockor ’superlock’ the vehicle.

2. Lock button (padlocksymbol) • pressonce to lock. • presstwiceto ’superlock’ . 3. Unlockbutton • pressonce to unlock. • pressand hold to operatethe ’Key activatedmemoryseats’ facility(see ’Key activatedmemoryseats’). Oncethe securitysystemis armed, the followingfeaturesareactivated: • The centrallockingsystemlocksallthe doors and the tailgate. • The perimetricalarm(protectingthe doors, hood and tailgate)is armed. • If ’handsetsuperlocking’ is activated, the volumetricalarmis alsoarmed(a sensor insidethe passengercompartment monitorsthe interiorspaceand activates the alarmif an intrusioninto the passengercompartmentis detected). The volumetricsensorwillentera self-check mode eachtimeyou turn the starterswitch off. It willremainactivefor 60 seconds,or until:

1. The driver’sdoor is opened and closed. 2. The vehicleis lockedwith the handsetor key.

NOTE: If the sensorfailsitsself-checkfive timesconsecutively, only the ’perimetric’ elementsof the securitysystemwillbe active (doors, hood and tailgate).Any attemptto ’superlock’ with the handsetwillresultin ’ALARMFAULT’ being displayedon the messagecentreand a mislockoccurring(see ’Mislock’).Seekqualifiedassistanceto rectify the fault.

NOTE: The handsetcomplieswith part15 of the FCC Rules.Operationis subjectto the followingtwo conditions:

1. This devicemay not causeharmful interference. 2. This devicemust acceptany interference received, includinginterferencethat may causeundesiredoperation. This appliesto both alarmreceiversand handset transmitter.

CAUTION Any changes or modificationsto the transmitternot expresslyapproved by the manufactureror Land RoverNorthAmerica could void the user’sauthorityto operate the equipment.

Anti-theft alarm indicatorlight Afterlockingthe vehicle, the REDindicator lighton the top of the fascia, closeto the windscreen(arrowedin illustration)flashes rapidlyfor ten secondsto confirmthat the securitysystemhas been successfullyarmed. Afterten seconds, the indicatorlightadjusts to a slowerfrequency, and then continuesto flashas an anti-theftdeterrentuntilsuch time as the securitysystemis disarmed. If, whilstoperatingthe handset(or key),the alarmsounds, thisindicatesthat one of the doors, the hood or the tailgateis not properly closed(themessagecentredisplaywill confirmwhichapertureis not secure). Although the handsetcan be successfully operatedfrom a significantdistancefrom the vehicle, when lockingit is wiseto be close enough to visuallyconfirmthat the door lockingbuttons havedropped into placeand that the indicatorlightconfirmsa successful lock.

NOTE: Occasionalatmosphericconditions can significantlyreducethe effectiverangeof handsetoperation. If thisoccurs, operatethe handsetcloserto the vehicle. In the most extremecases,it may be necessaryto touch the handsetagainstthe radioaerial ’fired’ onto one of the rearsidewindows. If the messagecentredisplays ’KEY BATTERY LOW’,thisindicatesthat the handsetbatteries need replacing(see ’Handsetbatteries’). SUPERLOCKING If the vehicleis ’superlocked’ (witheitherthe handset,or the key),the doors CANNOTbe unlockedor opened from insidethe vehicle.

In a collision, occupantsnot wearing a seat belt will be thrown around inside,or possibly thrown out of the vehicle. This is likelyto resultin more seriousinjuriesthan would have been the case had a seat belt been worn.It may even resultin loss of life! Don’t take chanceswith safety! • DOmake sure ALL occupantsare securelystrappedin at all times - even for the shortestjourneys. • The airbag supplementaryrestraint system(SRS)is designed to add to the overalleffectivenessof the seat belts,it

DOESNOTreplacethem. SEAT BELTS

MUST ALWAYS BE WORN. • Ensure that all seat belts are worn correctly- an improperlyworn seat belt increasesthe riskof death or serious injuryin the event of a collision. • DOuse the seat belts to secureitems of luggage that are to be carriedon the seats - in the event of an accident, loose items become flying missilescapable of causing seriousinjury,or even death. WARNING • DONOTfit more than one person into a belt; this could resultin the occupants strikingeach other and causing injuryin the event of a crash. • DONOTuse, or attempt to fit, a seat belt that is twisted or obstructedin any way that could impede its smooth operation.

If a belt is twisted,it must be straightenedbefore use. Usinga twisted or obstructedseat belt could increase the riskof injuryin a crash. • ALWAYS use the seat belt lock (buckle) nearestthe wearer. If the belt is locked in the wrong place, the seat belt will not fit correctlyand may ride up over the abdomen, causing seriousinternal injury in a crash. • DONOTwear the shoulderbelt under your arm.In an accidentthis could increaseyour chancesof being injured.

WEARINGSEAT BELTS CORRECTLY

WARNING Maladjustment of the seat belt could reduce its effectivenessin a crash, thereby increasingthe riskof seriousinjuryor death. Fastening the inertia reel belts Drawthe beltoverthe shoulderand across the chest, and then insertthe metaltongue plateinto the locknearestthe wearer- a ’CLICK’ indicatesthat the beltis securely locked. In some circumstances, perhapsdue to the vehiclebeing parkedon a slope, the inertia mechanismmay engage, preventingthe initial extensionof a belt. This is not a fault- ease the beltfreeand use it. Adjustthe seatbeltto eliminateany slackin the webbing.DONOTslackenthe webbingby holdingthe beltawayfrom the body - to be fullyeffective, the seatbeltmust remainin full contactwith the body at alltimes. Also, ensure that the lap belt fits as low on the hips as possibleand that the shoulderbelt passesacrossthe shoulderwithout slipping off or pressingon the neck (seealso ’Seating positions’ in the ’AirbagSRS’ sectionof this handbook). Upperanchorage adjustment The heightof the seatbeltupper anchorage can be adjustedfor comfortANDsafety.Press and hold the button (arrowedin upper illustration)to raiseor lowerthe anchorage. For safety, the seatbeltshould alwaysbe worn with the webbingcrossingthe shoulder midwaybetweenthe neckand the edge of the shoulder. Ensurethat the anchorageis correctlylocated in one of the heightpositionsbeforedriving. For childrenand young adultswherethe seat beltcannot be properlypositioned, the use of a boosterseatappropriateto the age and size of the childis recommended.

Lap belts The rearcentralseatingpositionis fittedwith a lap belt.To adjust, pullthe slider(arrowedin illustration)along the beltand feed the webbingthrough the buckleuntilthe beltis comfortablytight. Insertthe metaltongue plateinto the locknearestthe centreof the seat, and fit as low as possibleon the hips (neveron the abdomen). Wearingseat belts during pregnancy The seatbeltshavebeen designedfor all adults, includingpregnantwomen. In a crash situationany occupantis lesslikelyto be injuredwhilstcorrectlyrestrainedby a seat belt. However, pregnantwomen should wear the lap beltas low on the hips as possibleto avoidpressureon the abdomen. Womenshould consulttheirdoctorto establishthe best use of seatbeltsduring pregnancy. WARNING Seat belts are designed to bear upon the bony structureof the body (pelvis, chest and shoulders),and can only be worn safelywith the seats in a normal, upright, position. • ALWAYS fit the lap strapas low on the hips as possible(neveracrossthe abdomen) and ensure that the diagonal belt passesacrossthe shoulderwithout slipping off or pressingon the neck. • DONOTtravelwith the seat backs reclinedsteeplyrearward.Optimum benefit is obtained when the seat is reclinedno more than 15 degrees from the upright (vertical)position.A steeply reclinedseat could allow a passengerto slip under either the shoulderor the lap belt. • DONOTwear the shoulderbelt under your arm.In an accidentthis could increaseyour chancesof being injured.

SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONERS The seatbeltpre-tensionersactivatein conjunctionwith the airbagSRS and provide additionalprotectionin the eventof a severe frontalimpacton the vehicle(see ’Airbag SRS’). The pre-tensionersautomatically retractthe seatbeltsfittedto the front seats. This reducesany slackin both the lap and diagonalportionsof the belts, thereby reducingforwardmovementof the beltwearer in the eventof a severefrontalcollision. The airbagSRS warninglighton the instrumentpanelwillalertyou to any malfunctionof the seatbeltpre-tensioners. If the pre-tensionershavebeen activated, the seatbeltswillstillfunctionas restraints, and must be worn in the eventthat the vehicle remainsin a driveablecondition.

NOTE: The seatbeltpre-tensionerswillNOT be activatedby rear, sideor minorfrontal impacts. IMPORTANTINFORMATION

The seatbeltpre-tensionerswillonly be activatedonce and then MUST BE REPLACED.Failureto replacethe pre-tensionerswillreducethe effectivenessof the vehicle’srestraint systems. Afterany frontalimpact, the seatbelts and pre-tensionersmust be checkedand, if necessary, replaced. In the interestsof safety,it is recommendedthat removalor replacementof the front seats, seatbelts and pre-tensionersshould only be carried out by qualifiedpersonnelwith the use of factoryspecifiedparts. Disposingof vehicles If you sellyour vehicle,be sureto inform the new ownerthat the vehicleis fitted with pre-tensioners. If your vehicleis to be scrapped, unactivatedpre-tensionersarepotentially verydangerousand must be safely deployedin a controlledenvironmentby qualifiedpersonnel, beforea vehicleis scrapped.

CHILDRESTRAINTSFORSMALL CHILDREN ANDBABIES The seatbeltsfittedto your vehicleare designedfor adultsand largerchildren. For theirsafety,it is veryimportantthat allinfants and young childrenarerestrainedin child safetyseatsappropriateto theirage and/or size. Allinfantand childrestraintsystemsare designedto be securedin vehicleseatsby meansof a lap beltor the lap portionof a lap/shoulderbelt.Alwaysensurethat the manufacturer’sfittinginstructionsare followedexactly. Accidentstatisticsshow that childrenaresafer when properlyrestrainedin the rearseating positionsthan in the front. WARNING • Children under the age of 12 should alwaysbe transportedin the rear seats, and be properlyrestrainedin appropriate child restraints. • UNDERNOCIRCUMSTANCESSHOULDA

INSTALLEDIN ANY FRONTPASSENGER

SEAT POSITION.If the passengerairbag inflates,it could impact with the child restraint, causing seriousinjuryor death. • Children could be endangered in a crash if their child restraintsare not properly securedin the vehicle. • DONOTallow a baby or infant to be carriedon the lap. The forceof a crash can increaseeffectivebody weight by as much as 30 times, making it impossible to hold on to the child. • Young adults and childrentypically requirethe use of a boosterseat appropriateto their age and size, therebyenabling the seat belts to be properlyfitted, reducingthe riskof injury in a crash. • DONOTuse a child seat that hooks over the seat back. This type of seat cannot be satisfactorilysecured, and is unlikely to be safe for your child. • Neverleave a child unattended in your vehicle.

Tether straps For childseatsdesignedto use a top tether strap, your RangeRoveris equippedwith threetetherstrapanchorages, locatedover the tailgate(asillustrated).Theseanchorages aredesignedto only be used for tether compatiblechildrestraintsystems, fittedin the threerearseatingpositions.

Tether strapinstallation: 1. Verifythat the childseatis equippedwith or appropriatefor use with top tether straps. If in doubt, consultthe childseat manufacturerfor confirmation. 2. Removethe appropriatetetherstrap anchoragecover. 3. Attachthe tetherstrapto the childseat, followingthe childseatmanufacturer’s instructions. 4. Installthe childseatusing the vehicleseat beltas per the childseatmanufacturer’s instructions. 5. Routethe tetherstrapoverthe seatback, under the headrest. 6. Attachthe hook to the appropriatetether strapanchoragepoint (theone directly behind the childseat). 7. Tensionthe tetherstrapto the childseat manufacturer’sinstructions.

NOTE: The front and outsiderearpassenger seatbeltsarefittedwith a lockingmechanism, to furthersecurea childseat- see ’Seatbelt lockingmechanism’ . WARNING ALWAYS follow the child seat manufacturer’sinstructionswhen installing a tether strap.

Seat belt lockingmechanism The seatbeltsfittedto the front passenger seatand two outerrearseats, havea special lockingmechanism, whichaidsthe securing of childrestraintsystems. The mechanism used to securea childrestraintis operatedas follows: 1. Attachthe seatbeltto the childrestraintin accordancewith the manufacturer’s instructions. 2. Insertthe metaltongue of the seatbelt into the lockensuringthat it engageswith a ’click’ . 3. Pullon the shouldersectionof the belt untilit is fullyextended. 4. Allowthe beltto retract.A ’clicking’ sound willconfirmthat the mechanismhas engaged. 5. Removeslackfrom the mechanism,by pullingupwardson the shoulderbelt, immediatelyabovethe childrestraint. 6. Evaluatethe tightnessof the installationby rockingthe childseatbackand forth to ensurethat it is tight and stable. 7. If the childseatneedsto be tightened further, removethe metaltongue of the seatbeltfrom the buckleand feed some of the shoulderbeltbackinto the reel(thus makingthe beltshorter). Then reattachthe metaltongue into the buckle(ifdone properlyit willrequiresome effort). 8. Re-evaluatethe tightnessof the system. If the childseatis too loose, repeatthe aboveproceduremakingthe belt incrementallyshorter(and therefore tighter). It may be necessaryto put your weightonto the seat(to compressthe seat cover)to be ableto fastenthe belt. To turn off the childrestraintseatbeltlocking feature, allowthe seatbeltto fullyretract. The centrerearseatingpositionis fittedwith a lap beltwhichcan be manuallytightenedto securethe infantor childrestraintsystem. Olderchildrenshould use the lap/shoulder beltfittedto the outerseatingpositions.

CARE & MAINTENANCEOF SEAT BELTS

WARNING • DONOTallow foreign matter (particularlysugaryfood and drink particles)to enter the seat belt lockssuch substancescan render the locks inoperative. • Regularlyinspectthe belt webbing for signs of fraying, cuts and wear, also paying particularattention to the condition of the fixing points and adjusters. • DONOTbleach or dye the webbing.

Clean the webbing using warm water and non-detergentsoap only - allow to dry naturallyand DONOTretractor use the belts until they are completelydry. • Alwaysreplacea seat belt that has withstood the strainof an impact or showssigns of fraying. Testing inertia reel belts Fromtimeto time, carryout the following tests: 1. Withthe seatbeltfastened, givethe webbingnearthe bucklea quickupward pull. The bucklemust remainsecurely locked. 2. Withthe webbinghalfunreeled, hold the tongue plateand giveit a quickforward pull. The mechanismmust lock automaticallyand preventany further unreelingof the belt. 3. Withthe seatbeltunfastened, unreelthe webbingto the limitof itstravel.Check that unreelingis freefrom snatchesand snags. If a seatbeltshould failany of thesetests, contactyour retailerimmediately.

PO421

This RangeRoveris equippedwith an airbag SRS (supplementaryrestraintsystem)that incorporatesfront and sideairbagsand a lap/shoulderbeltwith pre-tensioners(see ’Seatbelts’)at both the driverand front seat passengerpositions.

WARNING The SRS/Airbagsare a supplementary restraintsystemthat providesADDITIONAL protectionin certaintypes of front and side impact collisionsonly - they DONOTreplace the need to wear a seat belt. To minimize the riskof severeinjuryor death in the event of a crash, all occupantsin all seating positionsincluding the drivershould always use their seat belt (regardlessof whether an airbag is included at that seating position). Providedthe front seatoccupantsare correctlyseatedwith seatbeltsproperlyworn, the airbagsarea supplementaryrestraint systemthat providesadditionalprotectionto the chestand facialareasin the eventof the vehiclereceivinga severefrontalimpact, and to the sideof the body facingthe impact,if a severesidecollisionoccurs. The front airbagsarelocatedin the centrepad of the steeringwheeland in the fasciapanel abovethe glovebox.Sideairbagsare positionedin the backrestpadding on the outwardsideof both front seats(see illustration).

WARNING Following inflation, some SRS/airbag componentsare hot - DONOTtouch until they have cooled. Even with SRS/airbagequipment fitted, seat belts must ALWAYS be worn because: • An airbag will only provideadditional protectionin certaintypes of front and side collisions.NOprotectionis afforded against the effectsof rear impacts, roll over accidents,or minor frontal impacts. • Inflation and deflation take place instantaneouslyand will not provide protectionagainst the effectsof secondaryimpactsthat can occurduring multiple vehiclecollisions. WARNING The airbag module inflates with considerablespeed and force. For your safety: An inflating airbag can cause facial abrasionsand other injuries. The injurious effectsof airbag inflation can be minimised by ensuringdriverand passengerare seated correctly, with the seat moved back as far as is practical, and the seat belts worn correctly. NEVERattach accessoryitems to an airbag module cover,or place items of hand luggage or any objectson the top of a module cover;these could interferewith the inflation of the airbag,or if the airbag inflates,be propelled inside the vehicle causing injuryto the occupants. DONOTallow occupantsto obstructthe operation of the airbag modules by placing their feet, knees or any part of their person in contactwith, or close to, an airbag module whilst the vehicleis moving. Activationof an airbag createsdust, causing possiblebreathing difficultiesfor asthma sufferersor other people with respiratory problems. If an airbag is activated, any occupant who suffersfrom breathing difficultiesshould; either leave the vehicle as quicklyas possible,or obtain freshair by fully opening the windows or doors. Both front seating positionsare equipped with knee bolstersto provideknee protectionin the event of an impact.DONOT modify the bolsters,or mount after market equipment on or behind them.

To ensurecorrectdeploymentof the airbags, it is essentialthat obstructionsarenot allowed to intervenebetweenan airbagand the occupant. The followingareexamplesof the type of obstructionsthat could either, impede correctoperationof the airbags,or jeopardise personalsafetyin the eventof an airbag deployment: • Accessoriesattachedto an airbagcover. • Itemsof hand luggageor otherobjects placedon an airbagcover. • Feet, kneesor any otherpartof the anatomyin contactwith, or in close proximityto, a front airbagcover. • Head, armsor any partof the anatomyin contactwith, or in closeproximityto, a sideairbag. • Itemsof clothingor cushionsdrapedover the partof a front seatcontainingthe airbag. • The use of seatcoversthat arenot approvedfor seatsequippedwith side airbagswillREDUCEor ELIMINATE the effectivenessof the sideairbagsin the eventof a crash(inparticular,be aware that seatcoversapprovedfor use with

RangeRovervehiclespriorto the introductionof sideairbagswillNOTbe suitablefor vehiclesequippedwith side airbags! If in doubt, seekadvicefrom a

Land Roverretailer). How the airbag SRS works In the eventof a collision, the airbagcontrol unit monitorsthe rateof decelerationinduced by the collisionto determinewhetherthe airbagsshould be deployed. In the caseof a severefrontalcollision, both front airbagswillbe deployed. In the caseof a severesidecollision, only the airbagon the impactsideof the vehiclewillinflate. However, theremay alsobe impactconditions wherebyone sideand both front airbags deployat the sametime,or wherefront and sideairbagsrespondseparatelyas a resultof a secondaryimpactoccurringafterthe initial collisionhas takenplace.

P0406

Airbaginflationis virtuallyinstantaneousand occurswith considerableforceaccompanied by a loud noise. The inflatedairbag, together with the seatbeltrestraintsystem, limitthe occupant’smovement, therebyreducingthe riskof injuryto the head and upper torso. When an airbaginflates,a finepowderis released. This is not an indicationof a malfunction, howeverthe powdermay cause irritationto the skinand should be thoroughly flushedfrom the eyesand any cuts or abrasionsof the skin.Afterinflation,an airbag deflatesimmediately. This providesa gradual cushioningeffectfor the occupantand also ensuresthat the driver’sforwardvisionis not impaired.

WARNING Following inflation, some airbag SRS componentsare hot - too avoid burns DO NOTtouch until they have cooled. IMPORTANTINFORMATION The airbagSRS is not designedto operateas a resultof rearcollisions, minorfrontalor minorsideimpacts,or if the vehicleoverturns;nor willit operate as a resultof heavybrakingor driving overbumps and potholes. Operationof the airbagSRS is dependent entirelyon the accelerationor decelerationforcesthat areappliedto the vehicle’spassengercompartmentas a resultof a collision. The circumstances affectingdifferentcollisions(vehicle speed, angleof impact, type and sizeof objecthit for example),varyconsiderably and willaffectthe rateof accelerationor decelerationaccordingly. It follows, therefore, that in some instances, significantsuperficialdamage can occurto the vehiclewithout the airbagsdeployingand, conversely, that in othercircumstances, the airbagswill deployeventhough the vehiclehas experiencedrelativelysmallamountsof damage. However,if as a resultof an impact, you suspectthat the airbags should havedeployedand havefailedto do so, pleasecall 1 (800) 637-6837 for adviceor to arrangefor a Land Rover representativeto inspectthe vehicleto verifythat the airbag/SRSsystem operatedcorrectly.

Side airbags Sideairbagsaredesignedto protectthe thoraxregionof the torsoand willonly deploy in the eventof a severesideimpact. They will NOTinflateas a resultof frontalor rear impacts. In the eventof a severesidecollision, the airbagon the impactsideof the vehiclebreaks through the seatcovering, rapidlyinflatingto form a cushionbetweenthe occupantand the sideof the vehicle. Notethat a partof the outersideof the seat trim(identifiedby the woven ’airbag’ label)is manufacturedwith a speciallyconstructed seamwhichenablesthe airbagto break through. The manufactureand materialsof the seatarecriticalto the performanceof the airbag. For thisreason,non-approvedseat coversmust NEVERbe fitted, and it is recommendedthat any repairor replacement to the front seatsbe carriedout by a Land Roverretailer(see ’Serviceinformation’).

Airbag SRS warning light Wheneverthe starterswitchis turnedto position ’II’,the diagnosticcontrolunit monitorsthe readinessof the system’s electricalcircuits. The elementsof the system being monitoredinclude: • SRS warninglight • Rotarycoupler • Airbagmodules • Seatbeltpre-tensioners • Airbagdiagnosticcontrolunit • Frontcrashsensors • Airbagwiringharnesses A warninglight, mounted on the instrument pack, willalertyou to any malfunctionwhich might preventthe airbagSRS from operating correctlyin the eventof an impact. The systemshould alwaysbe checkedby a retailer if any of the followingsymptomsoccur: • The warninglightfailsto illuminatewhen the starterswitchis turnedto position ’II’ . • The warninglightfailsto extinguishwithin approximatelyfivesecondsafterthe starterswitchis turnedto position ’II’ . • The warninglightilluminateswhilstthe vehicleis being driven.

NOTE: Afterthe starterswitchis turnedto position ’II’,the system’sdiagnosticcontrol unit checksitsown memoryand the warning lightbulb for faults. If a faultis found, the warninglightwillilluminate. Seating positions In orderto provideoptimum protectionin the eventof a severevehicleimpact,it is necessaryfor the airbagsto deploywith considerablespeed. An inflatingairbagcan causefacialabrasions and otherinjuriesif the occupantis too close to the airbagat the timeof itsdeployment.

WARNING To minimise the riskof accidentalinjury from inflating airbags, seat belts should be correctlyworn at all times. In addition, both driverand front seat passengershould adjust the seat to providethe maximum practicaldistancefrom the front airbags, and also ensure that a gap is maintained between the upper torsoand the side of the vehicleto enable unobstructedinflation of the side airbags.

CHILDSEATS Childrenaged 12 yearsand under aremore likelyto receiveinjuriesfrom inflatingairbags than adultoccupants. For thisreason,it is recommendedthat childrenshould alwaysbe seatedin the rearof the vehiclein a child safetyseator restraintsystemappropriateto theirage and size(see ’Seatbelts’). However,if it is necessaryfor a childto travel in the front, set the seatfullyrearwardsand use a front facingchildseatONLY.

WARNING DONOTUSE A REARFACINGCHILDSEAT IN ANY FRONTSEAT LOCATION.If the passengerairbag inflates,it could impact with the child restraintcausing serious injuryor death to the child. Children could be endangered in a crashif their child restraintsare not properly securedin the vehicle.Be sure to install child restraintsaccordingto the manufacturer’sinstructions. Underno circumstancesshould a rear facing child seat be installed facing forwardin any seating position. Serviceinformation Certaincomponentsof the SRS/airbagmust be replacedby a Land Roverretailerafter10 yearsfor front airbags, and 15 yearsfor side airbagsfrom the date of manufacture(shown on the certificationplateattachedto the lock faceof the front left-handdoor). In addition,ALWAYS contactyour retailerif: • an airbaginflates. • the front or sideof the vehicleis damaged, evenif the correspondingairbaghas not inflated. • any partof an airbagmodulecovershows signsof deteriorationor damage.

WARNING DONOTattempt to servicerepair, replace, modify or tamper with any part of the airbag SRS,or wiring in the vicinityof an airbag SRS component; this could cause the systemto activate, resultingin personal injury.

WARNING The componentsthat make up the SRS/airbagare sensitiveto electricalor physicalinterference, either of which could easilydamage the systemand cause inadvertentoperation or a malfunction of the airbag module. To preventany SRS/airbagmalfunction, ALWAYS consulta Land Roverretailer before fitting any of the following. • Electronicequipment such as a mobile phone, two-wayradio or in-car entertainment system. • Accessoriesattached to the front or side of the vehiclesuch as a winch or brushbar. • Any modification to the front or side of the vehicleincluding the bumper or chassis. • Any modification involvingthe removal or repairof any wiring or component in the vicinityof any of the SRS components(yellowwiring harness), including: the steeringwheel, steering column, front seats, instrumentand fasciapanels. • Any modification to the fasciapanels, steeringwheel or front seats.

WARNING Onlyuse Land Roverapproved seat covers for use with seats fitted with side airbag modules. The use of non-approvedseat coverswill REDUCEthe effectivenessof the side airbagsin the event of a crash condition. Disposingof vehicles If you sellyour vehicle,be sureto informthe new ownerthat the vehiclehas an airbagSRS, and makethe new ownerawarethat certain componentsof the systemwillneed renewing aftereither10 years(frontairbag)or 15 years (sideairbag). If the vehicleis to be scrapped:uninflated airbagsarepotentiallyverydangerousand must be safelydeployedin a controlled environmentby qualifiedpersonnelBEFOREa vehicleis scrapped.
