CHAPTER 7. OPERATION
1. BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
CAUTION:
• Before starting the engine, be sure to carry out the pre-operation inspection in accordance with the periodical inspection table.
• Follow instructions given in " I. FOR SAFE OPERATION. "
• Observe instructions given on the caution labels on the Zero turn mower and mower deck.
2. STARTING THE ENGINE
WARNING: a. Close the engine hood properly. b. Sit in the operators seat properly. c. Set the drive control lever,1, to the locked position. d Step on the brake pedal,2, to its maximum. e. Turn off the PTO switch,3. f. Insert the starter key into the starter switch and turn the key to the ON position ( ). Make sure that the charge lamp and oil pressure lamp are both lit.
• Never attempt to start the engine in an enclosed place with poor ventilation. Be sure to provide sufficient ventilation, for exhaust fumes can be lethal.
IMPORTANT: Perform the following operations before starting the engine.
(1) Drive control lever
(2) Brake pedal
(3) PTO switch
3
Monitor array
(1) Overheat warming
(2) Oil pressure lamp
(3) Charge lamp f. Shift the throttle lever 1, to the middle speed of engine. g. Turn the key to the pre-heating position ( ) and hold it there about five to ten seconds. h. Turn the starter key,1, to the START position ( ), and the starter is activated to crank the engine. i. As soon as the engine starts, release the starter key. The key will return automatically to the ON position ( ). j. Make sure that the charge lamp and oil pressure lamp turn off. k. When the engine starts, shift the throttle lever,1, to an intermediate speed position, that is, between the high speed and low speed positions ( and ). Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes at least.
IMPORTANT: Never keep on pre-heating more than 10 seconds, or the glow plugs may burn out. When the engine fails to start, wait at least 20 seconds before the next attempt.
IMPORTANT: Do not hold the starter key more than 10 seconds in the START position ( ). When the engine fails to start, return the key to the STOP ( ) position and wait at least 20 seconds before the next attempt. If you do not, the battery will be discharged too fast.
IMPORTANT: If the oil pressure should remain lit, stop the engine immediately and check the engine lubrication system.
IMPORTANT: • Never turn the starter key to the START position ( ) after the engine starts, or the starter motor will be damaged.
• Insufficient idling time will cause poor lubrication of the engine due to high viscosity of engine oil, which will lead to a shorter life of the engine.
CAUTION:
• During engine warming up, be sure to apply the effect to the brakes to avoid the Zero turn mower from travelling unexpectedly.
Note: Warming up criteria and atmospheric temperatures:
Atmospheric temperatures
High than 0 ℃ (32°F)
0 ℃ to -10℃ (32°F to 14°F)
-10℃ to -20℃ (14°F to -4°F)
Lower than -20℃ (-4°F)
3. STOPPING THE ENGINE
Required warming up
5 to 10 minutes
10 to 20 minutes
20 to 30 minutes more than 30 minutes a. Shift the throttle lever to the low speed position ( ) to reduce engine speeds. b. Apply the parking brake lever,2, securely. c. Turn the key switch,1, to the STOP ( ) position to stop the engine. d. Remove the starter key and cap,3, the key hole without fail.
CAUTION: Park the Zero turn mower on level, hard ground and make sure that the parking brake lever are applied securely.
IMPORTANT: • Never attempt stopping the engine abruptly when it is running at high speeds.
• Be sure to let the engine idle for about 5 minutes after a longtime operation and then stop the engine. Abrupt engine stopping may lend to overheating causing seizure.
CAUTION: When you leave the Zero turn mower, be sure to stop the engine and remove the starter key to prevent the Zero turn mower from being started unexpectedly by children or unauthorised people.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to cap the key hole after having removed the starter key. Otherwise, water or dust may enter into the switch which may cause trouble.
CAUTION: a. Start the engine. (Refer to ''7. OPERATION '') b. Shift the lift lever,1, to up position ( ) to lift up the mower deck from the ground. c. Release the parking brake lever. d. Shift the throttle lever to the high speed position ( ) to accelerate the engine.
• Before having become sufficiently familiar with the operation of the Zero turn mower, be sure to operate it in a place spacious and flat without obstacles and having an a unobstructed view and confirm the functioning of each control.
• Check the place to mow for bumps, ditches, mounds, steps, inclination, softness, water hole, etc. Ahead of time to avoid accidents such as turnover, fall, side-sliding of the Zero turn mower.
CAUTION: Starting to travel at high speeds without lifting up the mower deck will cause the mower blades to hit stones or stocks, which may result in break-down of the Zero turn mower or serious accidents.
IMPORTANT: For your safety, before moving forward the Zero turn mower, check the conditions in front of and around the Zero turn mower.
WARNING: e. To move forward, slowly push both control levers at the same time. f. To move backward, slowly pull both levers at the same time.
• Never attempt to turn the Drive control lever abruptly when travelling at high speed, which is very dangerous.
• Never attempt to make a sharp turn on a slope, but slow down sufficiently and turn the drive control lever slowly to prevent the mower from turning over or falling down.
CAUTION:
• Never attempt to push the drive control lever abruptly, or Zero turn mower will dash forward, which is very dangerous.
• Before changing travelling directions, be sure that the Zero turn mower has stopped travelling completely.
• When reversing, be sure of the safety conditions behind Zero turn mower.
5. STOPPING a. Release the drive control lever and shift to lock position. b. Shift the throttle lever to the low speed ( ) position to slow down the engine. c. Depress the brake pedal and lock the parking brakes securely. d. Shift the lift lever to down position ( ) to lower the mower deck onto the ground.
CAUTION: Park the Zero turn mower on flat, level ground and make sure that the parking brakes are applied securely.
CAUTION: When stopping the Zero turn mower, lower the mower deck onto the ground without fail to avoid accidents unexpectedly.
6. PTO SWITCH
PTO switch, 1, is used to engage and disengage the PTO drive system.
The switch must first be turned to right and then pulled up to engage PTO.
To disengage PTO, push the PTO control switch, 1.
CAUTION: PTO switch is equipped with a lock-out to prevent accidental engagement of PTO system. To engage PTO, first turn switch clockwise and then pull up it. DO NOT FORCE SWITCH. When starting engine, be make sure that PTO switch is OFF.
CAUTION: Always shut off PTO and shut off Tractor engine before servicing PTO-driven implement. Allow all movement and motion to stop before leaving operator's seat.
