Positioning The Drawbar On The Offset Bar

To understand how to position the drawbar plates, you first must recognize the need for this adjustment.

First of all, consider the forces acting on the single offset disk harrow.

The front gang is throwing the dirt to the right, so the forces acting against the front gang are pushing the front gang carrier to the left.

Conversely, the rear gang is throwing dirt to the left, so the forces acting against the rear gang are pushing it to the right.

As a result, the forces acting on the harrow are trying to make the harrow rotate counter clockwise .

POSITIONING THE DRAWBAR ON THE OFFSET BAR TO REDUCE DRAFT ON THE TRACTOR

The fact that the disk is trying to rotate counter-clockwise must be compensated for by shifting the drawbar plates on the offset bar to the left of the centerline. This makes the harrow heavier on the right side of the harrow as it is pulled through the ground.

The more the drawbar plates are moved to the left, the less the side draft will be on the tractor.
