7 Always carry out before putting into operation

DANGER! Do not work on the front attachment and/or the forage harvester unless the drive is switched off and the engine is stopped. –Stop engine. –Remove the ignition key! –Switch off the battery master switch!

1.Check the oil level in the gearboxes; swing maize header into working position to do this –see Working position, page50 or Gearboxes, page75. 2.Thoroughly lubricate the maize header before putting it into operation –see Lubrication Chart, page90. 3.Check that all bolts and screws are tight. 4.Check spring tension for the intake auger –see Intake auger spring tension, page85. 5.Check drive chains for correct tension –see Drive chain, page85. 6.Secure universal drive shaft gear against rotating by hanging in the chains. 7.Inspect safety guards and safety bar for wear and damage. 8.Mount and lock all protective devices –see Guards, page71. 9.Check the vehicle for loose attached parts before moving it. Firmly attach or cover parts which can fall off during travel. 10.Before travelling on public roads take heed of the notes for road transport –see Transport on public roads, page48. 11.Make sure no-one is in the area of danger. Immediately switch off the machine if persons approach the area of danger. 12.Never let the machine run without proper supervision. 13.Switch on maize header only when it is in working position and at idling speed –see Working position, page50.
