101 Checking the length of the universal drive shaft

Before using the mower unit for the first time, the hitch and universal drive shaft must be adjusted to suit the tractor.

Caution!

The maximum universal drive shaft inclination and quiet running of the mower unit can only be achieved by correct hitching.

It will often be necessary to change the length of the universal drive shaft because of the different locations of p.t.o. shaft on the various tractor types. Check the length of the universal drive shaft in all operating positions to avoid prevent crushing or insufficient profile overlap. Pull universal drive shaft halves apart. Fit universal drive shaft halves on the tractor and the machine side. Hold universal drive shaft halves alongside each other.

Universal drive shaft - shortest operating position

LZ = length of universal drive shaft when pushed together PULZ = profile overlap a=40 mm During straight travel, the universal drive shaft halves should engage as far as possible but should not abut at the ends. If the universal drive shaft halves abut at the ends, they must be shortened to the required length. There must be a travel distance of a = 40 mm. (Fig.100) Universal drive shaft - longest operating position LB=maximum length of universal drive shaft in operation PULB =profile overlap (Fig.101) During transport and when the drive is switched off, there must be a profile overlap(PU) of at least100 mm.

102 Attention!

Work on the machine which is not carried out correctly can lead to malfunctioning. Machine damage –Have all modifications and repairs performed by an authorised specialist workshop.

Pull universal drive shaft halves apart. Hold them alongside each other in the shortest operating position of tractor and equipment. Mark a distance of(a)40mm from the edge(C) of the male guard(1) on the female guard(2). Dismantle tube guard. Cut female guard(2) off at the marking. (Fig.102) Hold the piece cut off(2) against the male guard(1) and cut the same length off the male guard. (Fig.103)

Trim the same length as was cut off the guard(2) off the female and male lemon tube at right angles. Debur and clean the cut surfaces. Grease the inner profile. (Fig.104)

Unscrew bolts(1). Pull off seal(2). (Fig.105)

Mark the position for the hole (I) for the seal on the female lemon tube and drill through both walls. DistanceY=7mm Drilled hole Ø= 6mm Debur inside and outside of lemon tube where the holes have been drilled. Push on seal(2) and attach with bolts(1). Fit guard. Push universal drive shaft together and lubricate. (Fig.105,106)
