STARTING THE ENGINE

TRIM THIS EDGE -Familiarize yourself with the machine emergency exits (emergency exit via the windshield) in case of the cab door being jammed or the machine turning over.

-Make sure that there is nobody on or under the machine. The operator must be the only person on the machine. -Make sure there is nobody within the machine’s working area. -Familiarize yourself with the safety measures in use on the job site.

MACHINE OPERATION

WARNING: Check all controls and safety devices in a safe, open area before starting work.

When operating the machine, follow these instructions: -When starting the engine, allow for the prevailing weather conditions. See “Starting the engine” . -Check the hourmeter regularly, to ensure that all service operations are carried out punctually. See the “Service Intervals” Section. -If you use your machine in particularly harsh conditions (dusty or corrosive atmosphere), the service intervals should be reduced accordingly. -See “Run-In period” if the machine is new or if the engine has been reconditioned. -Locate the position of any underground pipes or conduits before starting work. -When working near overhead high voltage electric lines, you must keep a safe working distance from the lines. The minimum distances to be respected are as follows: -Under 57 000 volts: 3 meters. -Over 57 000 volts: 5 meters. -When working on a public highway, use the standard traffic signs, taking into consideration the working range of the upperstructure and its attachments. Local or national regulations stipulate the number, type and location of reflector strips. -Operate the working or travel controls only when seated in the operator’s seat. -Always make allowance for the working conditions when operating the machine.

-Do not allow anyone within the machine’s working area. Stop all operations until everyone has moved away. -Operate all controls gradually to ensure smooth machine operation. -See “Operating the machine in water” if the machine is to be operated in water. -All road travel must be undertaken in forward drive, with the operator’s compartment over the front wheels, the front axle unlocked and the upperstructure locked. -When travelling with a load, always use the travel control lever to maintain full control of the machine’s travel speed. -See “Transporting the machine” for instructions on driving the machine onto a trailer. -See “Handling the machine” for instructions on lifting the machine. -See “Towing the machine” for instructions on towing the machine. -Load handling operations must always be carried out with strict adherence to the instructions given in this manual and to current regulations. See “Load Handling” . -In certain configurations, a swinging attachment can cause interference between the attachment tool and the operator’s compartment. Always keep a safe working distance between the attachment tool and the operator’s compartment (in case of tool swinging or accidental movements). -Never use the attachment for sweeping the ground to level out rubble or push objects (transverse stress on the attachment). -Avoid running the engine in an enclosed area. If there is no alternative, make sure there is proper ventilation at all times. -Dust, smoke or fog can reduce visibility and cause an accident. Reduce speed or come to a complete stop until visibility has improved. TRIM THIS EDGE

TRIM THIS EDGE -In the event of an operating failure or if the machine is damaged, move the machine to a safe place and lower the attachment to the ground. Stop the engine and remove the starter switch key. Locate the problem, report it, and if necessary warn others not to attempt to operate the machine. -When stopping the engine, allow for the prevailing weather conditions. See

“Stopping the engine” . -See “Parking the machine” for instructions on parking the machine.

RUN-IN PERIOD

Your machine will last longer and function more efficiently and economically if you pay particular attention to the engine during the first twenty hours of operation. During this period: Frequently check the instrument panel. Frequently check the oil and coolant levels. During the run-in period, the following checks and service operations must be completed in addition to those specified in the Service Schedule: AFTER THE FIRST 10 HOURS Check the wheel nut torque. See “Wheels and tyres” in the “Maintenance/Adjustments” Section.

AFTER THE FIRST 50 HOURS Check the tightness of the turntable bearing hardware periodically and both visually and manually. Check on both the upperstructure side and the undercarriage side. In the event of problems contact your CASE Dealer. See “Inspecting the turntable bearing ” in the “Maintenance/Adjustments” Section. AFTER THE FIRST 250 HOURS Drain and replace the swing reduction gear oil. See “Swing reduction gear” in the “Lubrication/Filters/Fluids” Section. AFTER THE FIRST 500 HOURS Drain and replace the oil in the front and rear axles and the travel reduction gears. See “Axles and travel reduction gears” in the “Lubrication/Filters/Fluids” Section. Drain and replace the gearbox oil. See “Gearbox” in the “Lubrication/Filters/ Fluids” Section.
