REMOVING TRANSMISSION Section III

3–1. DRAINING TRANSMISSION

Drain the transmission fluid before removing the transmission from the vehicle.

Remove the drain plug from the oil pan. Examine the drained fluid for evidence contamination (2– TRANSMISSION FLUID

CONT AMINA TION Reinstall the drain plug.

Remove the transmission fill tube if it interferes with transmission removal. Plug the fill tube hole in the main housing keep dirt from entering the transmission.

NOTE: A significant amount fluid may drain from the hydraulic lines when they are disconnected from the transmission.

Disconnect all hydraulic lines from the transmission. Remove the lines from the vehicle if they interfere with transmission removal. Plug all openings keep dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

3–2. DISCONNECTING CONTROLS

Disconnect the external wiring harness the feedthrough harness connector . Loosen the bolt that retains the 24way feedthrough connector the transmission. Refer Figure 1–4 Figure 1–5.

Prevent dirt moisture from entering a disconnected connector .

Position the wiring harness it does not interfere with transmission removal.

Disconnect linkage from the customerfurnished transmission shift lever . Position the disconnected linkage it does not interfere with transmission removal. Leave the shift lever the transmission.

PT O(s) is (are) used, disconnect the PT O(s) wiring harness(es). parking brake is present, disconnect linkage.
