We are excited to invite you to the third annual Murgona Santa Gertrudis Sale at the Taroom Showgrounds. Please note the change of day & date for this year’s sale! After obtaining client feedback we trust that this change will be advantageous to most. If you aren’t able to attend in person on Saturday the 14th of September, AuctionsPlus will be livestreaming the sale with full video, audio and bidding capabilities. Sale Bulls will also be available for inspection at our Open Day on Friday the 30th of August. This event will afford you the opportunity to inspect the sale team, plus a selection of our greater herd, in a relaxed environment. If, however, you require a private inspection on a more suitable date, please don’t hesitate to ask. We will do our utmost to accommodate you as we enjoy nothing better than sharing our herd, and discussing breeding objectives, with like-minded producers.
It has been an eventful twelve months for Murgona Cattle Co since we last put pen to paper. Highlights include welcoming our first IVF progeny, taking out ‘the big three’ in the Santa Ring at Beef Australia, Grand Champion Male, Grand Champion Female & the Breeders Group, as well as launching our website;
www.murgonacattleco.com.au

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the friends, families and businesses who support us unwaveringly. HEALTH VACCINATIONS
All bulls are vaccinated with;
• Three Germ Blood (Redwater)
• Ephermal Fever (3 day)
• Vibrio
• 7 in 1
All bulls have passed semen and breeding soundness evaluations as well as a morphology test.
We are committed to selling productive stock. In the unlikely event that you have any issues with your purchase please let us be the first to know. Any claims of infertility will be handled according to Section 17 of the “Agents Terms & Conditions”.
DNA TESTING
Commencing this year all sale bulls have been 50K DNA tested by Neogen Australasia. This is a quality assurance initiative, not a change to our management practices. Occasionally fences get compromised or Sires require rotating, therefore, to provide the most accurate pedigree information possible we have moved to Sire Verifying our replacement heifers and sale bulls. DNA testing will never replace our diligent supervision of the herd during calving, or the subsequent mothering up process, which guarantees birth dates accurate within 24 hours, and in turn reliable raw data. Bulls recognised as Homozygous Poll through HornPoll testing will be clearly identified. If you require the case number of your purchase/s, please don’t hesitate to ask.

REFERENCE SIRES
YARRAWONGA QUAKE Q990 (ET) (PP)
**First Release Sire**
Yarrawonga Quake (PP) was purchased in 2021 for $55000. He has the desirable Homozygous Poll trait along with a tidy underline, smooth coat, good temperament, incredible width and a strong muscle pattern. This coupled with good breeding and outstanding raw data of 1010kgs, 155cm EMA (the largest in the 2021 Yarrawonga offering), 41cm SC & 90% morphology at 28 months of age sees Quake (PP) tick almost all of our boxes. Dam, Yarrawonga G23 (ET)(P), has 32 registered progeny of which an incredible 28 have classified, and 6 have sold to studs! Quake (PP) has a great constitution whilst being a prolific breeder. In his first season he was single sired to 50 females who returned a 98% pregnancy rate. The majority of Quake’s progeny are born small before growing rapidly. His potency combined with the consistency of his offspring sees 15 sons catalogued this year.
YARRAWONGA LACROSSE S122 (P)
**First Release Sire**
We had the privilege of using S122 (P) for his first season. Only a young bull at the time, he held up exceptionally well. There was so much to love about this bull, including his bone, thickness, depth, temperament, coat and head. S122 (P) has reportedly grown into a very large bull despite going to work at a young age. We are so pleased with this bull’s offspring we struggled to choose just one son to retain for ourselves. Beef 2024 Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis Male, Murgona Raider (P), sired by S122, will commence stud duties at “Burradoo” in November. Stable mate, Murgona Reginald (P), who stood second to him in the 19 & Under 21 month class at Beef, will be regrettably offered as Lot 2. A total of 8 S122 (P) sons have been catalogued for this year’s sale.
REFERENCE SIRES
MURGONA LEGEND L34 (PP)
Legend (PP) is a son of the reputable Diamond H Penthouse (PP) and the first home bred sire we have ever kept. He was everything we desire in a bull. He had a strong sire’s head while possessing the homozygous poll genes, stood on good bone and was well muscled with an exceptional EMA of 152cm. He also had a good temperament, dark tropical coat and large testicles. Legend (PP) was our heaviest weaner in 2018 at 430kgs and had an impressive DWG of 1.39 as a 2-year-old. Sadly 2024 sees Legend’s last natural offspring offered, as he died unexpectedly. The quality and consistency of his progeny, both male and female, continues to astound us as we use him in both AI and IVF programs. Murgona Queen Bee (P), Interbreed Grand Champion of Beef Australia 2024, is a daughter of Legend (PP). Queen Bee (P) led 3 exceptional Murgona Legend (PP) exhibits to victory in the Santa Gertrudis Sires Progeny Stakes at Beef. 14 of Legend’s sons have sold through the ring to date for an average of $13929.
DIAMOND H PENTHOUSE P239 (PP)
Penthouse (PP) could be credited with putting Murgona Santa Gertrudis on the map. Purchased for the top price at the 2013 Diamond H sale, he is a bull who breeds better than himself. His first crop of sons sold in 2016, for what was an impressive average at the time, of $11562. In total 23 natural sons sold through the ring over 5 years to gross $243000. We retained a standout son, Murgona Legend (PP), who is currently shaping our herd. Beef 2018 Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis Female, Murgona Impress (P), is testament
to the calibre of Penthouse’s offspring. Penthouse (PP) is being used once again thanks to embryo transfer, with 2 sons for sale in 2024. Penthouse (PP) was a VERY long bull who weighed over 1350kgs in his prime. His smooth coat, loose skin and strong head all added to his sire appeal. At 9 years of age Penthouse (PP) was culled due to injuries sustained during fighting. He curfewed 1050kgs, achieving $3360, at the Dalby Saleyards.
REFERENCE SIRES
JAMALLY PRINCE P16 (P)
Prince was purchased in 2019 for his large frame, good structure, clean sheath and quiet temperament. He was given the unenviable task of covering our commercial herd at Charleville during the drought. Prince (P) got a reprieve in 2022 when he and our commercial herd returned to “Burradoo”. A Prince (P) son was catalogued as Lot 8 in 2023 and sold to Castle Pastoral Co for $8000. This year sees Prince (P) represented by Lot 19 while another two sons were weaned onto oats recently.
EIDSVOLD STATION R576 (PP)
R576 (PP) was a young homozygous poll bull with a very neat sheath. Recommended by Rick Greenup, R576 (PP) was joined to 55 maiden heifers for 12 weeks at “Burradoo”. During this period, he gained weight in demonstration of his easy doing ability, which he has passed onto his progeny. It was, however, his faultless feet and legs as well as his kind nature which we admired the most. Four young sons of R576 (PP) will be offered as Lot 30-33.
FUTURE SIRES
WACO SONNY BILL S94 (P)
Sonny Bill (P) was our pick of the 2022 Waco Sale. His presence, mobility, dark coat, strong topline and impressive figures made him impossible to look past. At 26 months of age, he boasted an EMA of 152cm2, fats of 16 & 12, scrotal circumference of 40cm and a weight of 962kgs (the heaviest in the sale). Sonny Bill (P) has brought fresh bloodlines to our herd by way of his Sire, Waco Falcon (P), and his Dams Sire, Yarrawonga Apache (ET)(PS). With his first progeny now weaned we can confidently say Sonny Bill (P) is breeding true to type. His sons all possess his presence and strength of spine, while his females could well be his legacy. Considering his power, we are delighted with the females he is producing. Murgona Sovereignty (P), calf at foot of BEEF Interbreed Grand Champion Female, is a prime example of the thick, though feminine, heifers he is producing.
Managing your Purchase
Breeding a bull is a long term commitment, as is purchasing a bull! Due to the effort & expense involved for both parties we’ve compiled some useful tips so that you get the maximum benefit/return from your investment.
The Murgona herd is handled in a low stress manner by men, women & children, horses, dogs, motorbikes & ATV’s, therefore we are confident they will fit seamlessly into your operation. As cattle are herd animals we encourage you to isolate your purchase as little as possible. Having stock prepared for your bull to go with upon arrival will assist in his transition. The selling and transportation process can be quite stressful on even the quietest of bulls, especially if they’ve been held and transported alone. Our cattle respect fences so you should feel comfortable letting your purchase straight out into the paddock with other cattle to ‘settle in’.
Doing ability is one of our selection criteria. That coupled with the fact that we feed our bulls for a long working life means that they do not require ‘letting down’. Young bulls are still growing however, and cutting teeth, so you can expect them to lose weight faster than mature bulls when put to work. It has been well researched & documented that the condition & health of working bulls is critical to the production of quality sperm. Hence we encourage you, if it’s possible, to look after your young bulls following their first mating season. This could be as simple as putting them on good quality pasture, maintaining their vaccination program and treating them for parasites.
Ideally you should mate young bulls together. Older bulls tend to dominate young bulls and this can lead to injuries as well as a lack of offspring from your newly acquired genetics. If an accident or injury does occur we encourage you to seek veterinary advice and commence treatment ASAP.
All the bulls in this draft are guaranteed breeders. Please be aware that changes that cause stress like transportation, alterations to diet, weather & environment as well as different handling techniques & personnel along with mixing with strange stock, especially bulls, can all have an effect on bull fertility.
We are confident we have done everything in our power to prepare your new bull for a long successful working life. We encourage you, however, to insure your bull/s (a WFI representative will be onsite) and follow these basic tips to safeguard your investment. We wish you every success with your purchase/s. If we can be of any further assistance please don’t hesitate to contact us.
MURGONA LEGEND (PP)
MURGONA (P)
MURGONA NUTMEG N71 (PS)
has been a standout since a young age. She caught the attention of many on our local Show Circuit in 2023 claiming Junior Champion Bos Indicus Female at both Taroom and Roma Show. In January 2024 she welcomed heifer calf, Murgona Sovereignty (P), sired by Waco Sonny Bill (P). Queen Bee (P), with Sovereignty (P) at foot, was crowned Supreme Champion Exhibit of the Wandoan Show and Interbreed Champion Female of BEEF Australia this year. She has since had a positive pregnancy test to Murgona Raider (P) with the calf due in January. Queen Bee (P) is the first progeny of Dam, Murgona Nutmeg (PS), who has since had a heifer, and is currently PTIC. Nutmeg (PS) was successfully collected with 2 IVF sisters and an IVF brother to Queen Bee (P) confirming the genetic strength of this Nutmeg (PS), Legend (PP) cross. Queen Bee (P) has performed admirably in an IVF program already with 9 Queen Bee (P) X Waco Sonny Bill (P) embryos produced. Grand-Dam Kabunga H53 (P) is a matriarch! A phenotypically attractive cow with the progeny results to match.

MURGONA (P)
Raider
MURGONA LIMERIC L75
is the complete package! He oozes sire appeal, with his broad poll head, strong bone, loose cherry red coat and tremendous capacity. Raider (P) won Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis Bull at BEEF 2024 where he was touted as a game changing bull for his red meat combined with softness & even fat coverage. He is a mobile bull with faultless structure and large testicles which saw him secure the Interbreed Grand Champion Bull Title at Wandoan Show earlier this year. A standout since a calf, Raider (P) was exhibited at the Brangus Youth Camp as a yearling, by our 6-year-old nephew, testament to his impeccable temperament. Dam, Murgona Limeric has had 3 calves in 3 years, the latest of which is an admirable heifer, and is PTIC again.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
All bids shall be treated as offers made upon the following Terms and Conditions of Sale and all persons present are admitted to attend the sale on the basis that they have notice of these Terms and Conditions.
1. The highest bidder shall, subject to Condition 2, be the purchaser provided that the vendor reserves the right to bid either by himself or through his agent or auctioneer and should any dispute arise among the bidders for any lot, during or immediately after sale of the lot, it shall be settled at the auctioneers absolute discretion who may, should one of the disputants advance, put the lot or lots up again. The bidding from time to time shall be regulated by the auctioneer and no bid shall be retracted.
2. The sale will be conducted on a “Sale” or “No Sale” basis whereby the lot for sale shall be knocked down to the highest bidder, but the sale will be subject to the acceptance of the highest bid by the vendor who will immediately after the fall of the hammer declare “Sale” or “No Sale”. Should the vendor reject the bid of the highest bidder such bidder will have the right of first refusal of the lot at the vendor’s nominated price for one hour after the lot has been passed out of the ring on the Terms and Conditions herein set forth in so far as they shall apply.
3. The details of the purchaser, the purchase price and the lot sold as recorded by the sale clerk for and on behalf of the auctioneer shall be equally binding on both purchaser and vendor.
4. The auctioneer expressly reserves the right, without giving any reason therefor, to:-
(a) Refuse to acknowledge any bid;
(b) Withdraw any lot or lots before or during the sale;
(c) Exclude any person from the auction venue should it think fit.
5. Each lot in all cases shall be at the risk and expense of the purchaser, upon acceptance of his bid by the vendor or upon acceptance of the highest bidder’s offer by the vendor whichever shall be the earlier.
6. Except as expressly provided in these Terms and Conditions of Sale no guarantee or warranty shall be given in respect of any lot sold under these Conditions as to pedigree, sex, age, breeding condition or otherwise howsoever, and no guarantee, warranty or condition whatsoever shall be implied from any affirmation made before or at the time of the sale, or from any circumstances of the sale, but in all cases where a guarantee is intended the same shall attach and be enforceable only if reduced to writing before delivery of the lot and signed by the vendor or by the auctioneer acting as agent for the vendor, and the absence of such writing shall be conclusive evidence in case of dispute that no guarantee warranty or condition whatsoever was given or implied.
7. In the event of any dispute in respect to the sale of any lot:-
(i) The purchaser shall nevertheless be obliged to pay to the auctioneer the full purchase price and any other moneys or interest payable by the purchaser in accordance with these terms and conditions.
(ii) The vendor and the purchaser shall resolve the dispute between themselves;
(iii) The auctioneer shall have no liability or responsibility in regard to the dispute; and
(iv) No lot shall be returned to the auctioneer and the purchaser shall indemnify the auctioneer for all costs, expenses and damages which the auctioneer is put to or incurs by reason of the purchaser so doing.
8. The name of the vendor for whom the auctioneer acts is acknowledged to have been furnished to purchasers prior to sale and further particulars will in all cases be furnished to a purchaser if required. In the case of any dispute the remedy of the purchaser shall be against the vendor only and in no case or under any circumstances against the auctioneer who is to be regarded for all intents and purposes as agent for a disclosed principal.
9. (a) PAYMENT – Unless prior credit arrangements have been made in writing with the auctioneer the full purchase price for each lot shall be due and payable to the auctioneer in cash upon acceptance of the highest bid or the highest bidder’s offer by the vendor and prior to delivery. Notwithstanding that delivery is given to or possession obtained by the purchaser or his representative prior to the payment of the purchase money in full the property in any lot which is sold shall not pass to the purchaser until the full purchase price and all cheques, promissory notes, bills of exchange, acceptance orders or drafts given in connection with such payment have been paid and liquidated, and until property shall pass, the purchaser shall hold such lot as bailee, provided that in all cases should such payment not have been made and liquidated within 14 days of the date of the sale the auctioneer reserves the right to:-
(i) Rescind the contract on behalf of the vendor and repossess and resell any lot;
(ii) Recover from the purchaser interest upon the purchase price at a rate per annum which aggregates the 90 day Bill Rate plus two percentum. For the purposes of this condition “the 90 day Bill Rate” is the rate published regularly in the Australian Financial Review, expressed as a percentage per annum. If at any time the Financial Review ceases to publish a 90 day Bill Rate, the auctioneer shall determine and advise the purchaser of the interest rate to apply for the purpose of this condition.
(b) The auctioneer is selling as the del credere agent of the vendor and the full purchase price of any lot sold shall be payable by the purchaser to the auctioneer and be fully recoverable by the auctioneer in its own name.
10. If the purchaser shall neglect or fail to comply with any of the within conditions, any lot purchased by him may be immediately resold by public auction or private contract, with or without notice, at the risk of the former purchaser, who will be held responsible for all loss and expenses arising out of such resale, and shall not participate in any profit accruing therefrom.
11. Any vendor or purchaser removing the sale number from any lot after it has been sold will fully indemnify all affected parties for any loss, costs or damage should the lot be wrongly delivered.
12. The purchasers, if more than one, shall be jointly and severally bound by these Terms and Conditions, and shall jointly and severally carry out and perform same.
13. Any person who advances a bid on a lot shall do so on the expressed condition and understanding that should that person’s bid be the highest bid and such bid is accepted by the vendor, then that person will be held personally liable for the price so agreed upon, regardless of the fact that that person may be acting on behalf of another party, either disclosed or undisclosed to the vendor or the auctioneer, provided however, that this Condition shall not in any way negate the vendor’s right to claim against any principal and in such case the bidder’s liability shall be construed to be by way of guarantee.
14. The auctioneer may, should it think fit, make arrangements on a purchaser’s behalf for the feeding, watering, trucking, shipping of and general attendance to any lot after sale but no responsibility will be accepted by the auctioneer and all such service will be at the purchaser’s risk and expense.
