PUB CHOIR VIBES COMING

IMAGINE the uplifting power of a large crowd singing well known songs together. The Pub Choir phenomenon taking cities around the country by storm is the inspiration behind the newest community group aimed at people affected by cancer, starting up in Hervey Bay. Driven by a motivation to overcome her own breast cancer diagnosis, Twila Whittingham has decided to “humbly offer my ‘gift’ to heal and bring moments of joy to ‘sisterhood’ members who are walking this path with me.” She said her cancer diagnosis initially sparked the fear we all face at some point; that our mortality is threatened. Ms Whittingham, with over 35 years choir experience, believes in the healing power of music and plans to guide the singing group on an expressive

musical journey. The group will also be an opportunity to meet new people and make friends who are also facing the cancer challenge. “I’m excited to find out how many will join us for our initial ‘6 week’ run.” “We are aiming for a large enough group to explore a lovely harmony.” “We want to raise the roof in song and if it is a roaring success, we will keep singing,” said Ms Whittingham. While the group will not be consuming alcohol at the regular Friday morning get togethers, Ms Whittingham said an ‘open mike’ session at a pub was definitely on the cards. “I’ve blown out 68 candles on my cake and with my hand on my heart, singing is up high on the list of easing inhibitions.”

Starting from 7 October, the initial Hervey Bay rehearsals will be held at St James Lutheran Chapel at 72 Pantlins Lane Urraween on Friday mornings from 10.30am to 11.30am. Cost is by donation to cover the power. For those interested in joining, please RSVP to Megan.lynch@health.gld.gov. au or phone 4325 6429 during business hours.
