OPEN DAY PROVES MORE THAN JUST MEALS DELIVERED
MEALS on Wheels will be throwing its doors open to the public on Saturday 17 September and invites the community to come and experience the service this vital organisation provides to the people of the Fraser Coast. There will be prizes, giveaways and raffles, kitchen tours and a free sausage sizzle for those who attend the day as well as special deals for people who sign up for the delivery service. Serving the Fraser Coast region for over 50 years, Meals on Wheels (MOW) offers more than just fresh hot meals delivered to those who are housebound. MOW sells frozen meals to the public from its premises where they are freshly made by trained chefs in a modern kitchen and also provides a catering service. MOW Acting President Kerry Jones said, “In addition to supplying nutritious meals, we also provide much needed social interaction and a daily welfare check for all our clients.” “For some of our clients, their MOW delivery driver is the only person that they will see that day.” “We provide our clients with a genuine sense of community
companionship which gives their families peace of mind.” Mr Jones said he loves volunteering and all the benefits of giving back to the community. He has been volunteering for around 27 years. “Volunteering gives you a sense of community involvement and a great feeling that you’re doing something good; plus you’re meeting people and making friends along the way.” MOW operates largely on a volunteer basis and is always on the lookout for new
volunteers. Maria Daye, Manager of MOW Fraser Community said they were in need of volunteers to work in the kitchen, as delivery drivers and as cleaners but there are other positions available in admin too. “We simply cannot function as an organisation without our volunteers; we are most appreciative of the great work our volunteers do every day.” Meals on Wheels Fraser Community Open Day is on Saturday 17 September from 10am to 2pm at 39A Islander Road, Pialba.
