Goblin’s Peter and the Wolf

The Autumn Season is no exception. Whether you are 6 or 106 I am sure that you will find something that tickles your fancy. Personally, I’m particularly looking forward to John Cooper Clarke (the godfather of performance poets), to hosting the Shakespeare Schools Festival for the first time and to seeing our own production of Rapunzel brought to life in time for Christmas! But those three events are just the tip of the iceberg; there really is something for everyone. So enjoy scanning the pages of your new brochure and I hope to see you at Hertford Theatre very soon.

Friday 1st September, 11am & 2pm Saturday 2nd September, 11am & 2pm Peter and Grandad have gone camping for the weekend. Grandad says stick to the campsite but Peter has other ideas. Join Peter on a hilarious adventure through the fields and forest as he discovers new sounds and noises. With new music lovingly inspired by Prokofiev’s classic, this is Peter and the Wolf as you’ve never seen it before. Goblin’s Peter and the Wolf is a brand new show with amazing music created live with a variety of instruments and objects, combined with imaginative puppetry, physical comedy and fun interaction; the show will have children jumping for joy.

Happy choosing! Rhys Thomas Director

The show is an ideal and imaginative introduction to making music and has a positive message about being kind to the world.

Saturday 11th November, 8pm

Thursday 2nd November, 7.45pm “A highly entertaining evening” sport.co.uk

“By far the best cycling-related one man show around” Al Murray

Jeremy Hardy is in his 4th decade as a stand-up this year. That’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 33 years ago and, without a lottery win, probably has at least another 33 years to go. He is also well known for his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett recently said he likes him “but he’s only on the radio”.

“The most entertaining in cycling” Lizzie Armitstead

However, Jeremy isn’t only on the radio, his television credits include: Jack Dee’s Election Helpdesk (BBC2), QI (BBC1), Mock The Week (BBC2), Grumpy Old Men (BBC1), Not Tonight With John Sergeant (BBC2).

British Cycling has seen more drama in the past year than your average soap opera… Journalist, television presenter and best-selling author Ned Boulting is in Hertford with his acclaimed sell-out ride through the world of Bikeology, featuring brand new tales from life in the cycling lane, as well as the inside scoop from his time at the 2017 Tour de France.

“In an ideal world, Jeremy Hardy would be extremely famous, but an ideal world would leave him without most of his best material.” The Guardian

£15, £6 for the unwaged Suitable for ages 14+ Duration approx. 2hrs with an interval

What drives the cyclist (apart from a sturdy, well-oiled chain) to such ecstasies of endurance? What curious, deep-rooted passions are aroused by the sight of a simple pair of padded shorts? And what on earth is a derailleur? From the humble commuter to the winner of the Tour de France, Boulting takes an off-centre look at what it means to ride a bike, drawing on his own underwhelming adventures in the saddle to his 14 summers spent hurtling around France in pursuit of the sport’s biggest names including Cavendish, Wiggins, Froome and of course Armstrong. A breakneck descent through the history of the ever popular sport followed by a lung-bursting climb into the present day - all two-wheeled life is here. Keep your wits about you, as you might find yourself up on stage to compete in Ned’s search for the nation’s Number 1 Bikeologist!

Amanda Alexander Four Painters 30th August - 24th September

24th October - 19th November

I have lived in Hertford for 20 years and took up photography whilst running, just snapping shots on my iPhone, usually without stopping.

Painting has wandered in many different directions. Anthony Cleyndert, John Little, Ben Slater and Peer Towers offer their personal approaches, veering between figurative, abstraction and somewhere in-between.

It’s become my greatest passion; I’ve captured some lovely views in the early mornings.

How to get here? Car Hertford Theatre is in the middle of Hertford town centre and can be accessed easily from the A414 or A10. Train Hertford East or North Stations are less than 20mins walk away and go straight to London. (60mins to Moorgate or Liverpool Street). Hertford Theatre has no parking available, including disabled bays. The nearest carpark is on St Andrew Street, a 2 minute walk away or at various other town centre carparks.

Hertford Women’s Society 26th September – 22nd October

Women’s Society are hosting a fashion event showing their latest collection through photography. Fashion photography has its own aesthetic enhancing the model, garments and accessories in a particular setting. Fashion is about the individual and making a difference for that person. Clothing is important to us all as it can evoke emotions and give us confidence in situations; it is essentially a form of expressionism.
