Dear Adventure Traveler,
Step into the enchanting polar worlds as you leaf through the pages of our new catalogue. We hope it transports you to the magical realms of remote Antarctica with the sometimes comical antics of its penguins, dazzling Greenland lit up by the Northern Lights, and the untrammeled Svalbard Archipelago, high above the Arctic Circle.
For more than 25 years, Poseidon has been bringing these frozen landscapes closer to people, and we're proud to have fostered a robust travel community that stands as a testament to our shared passion for discovery.
Having once immersed yourself in the polar worlds, the allure becomes irresistible. We trust that this catalogue will serve as a companion in guiding you toward the perfect cruise choice. Within its pages, discover our most popular and enduring itineraries to Antarctica and the Arctic, unveiling destinations such as South Georgia, the Falkland Islands, Svalbard, Greenland, and the British and Faroe Islands.
Whether your heart is set on a specific expedition or you’re seeking inspiration for the voyage of a lifetime, this catalogue invites you to navigate the extraordinary polar world crafted by Poseidon. We eagerly anticipate the pleasure of welcoming you aboard the Sea Spirit, whether it marks your initial voyage or a much anticipated return, to explore new horizons with us.

In the Spirit of Adventure: Polar Expedition Cruising
We started Poseidon Expeditions in 1999 with the simple belief that expedition cruising is the best way to see the polar regions. 26 years later, over 25,000 passengers agree: our unique style of travel offers you a genuine adventure served with healthy measures of education and relaxation. Your polar cruise experience on our small ships will be deeply personal and immensely satisfying.
6 | Poseidon Expeditions | ABOUT US
Why travel with Poseidon Expeditions?
Poseidon Expeditions is one of the leading operators of polar expeditions in the cruise industry. Since 1999, we’ve offered voyages that combine the spirit of adventure with a generous measure of onboard comfort and well-being, along with educational enrichment.
Small ship – big advantage
With a maximum capacity of just 114 passengers, we usually operate with 100 guests off the ship. It maximizes our travelers' time ashore because there is no need for splitting passengers into groups for landing rotations, as is required on larger ships.
26 years of polar cruising
Polar cruising is our passion and expertise. We’ve gained tremendous experience building a strong team of enthusiastic polar professionals who are all experts in their field. Each expedition cruise is a thoughtfully crafted voyage.
A real polar expedition
Experience active exploration through a variety of activities. Weather permitting, we schedule several excursions per day and offer optional kayaking and, in Antarctica, camping. Enrich your polar knowledge in an engaging and interactive way through Poseidon’s edutainment program.
Expedition team excellence
Our guests continually rate our expedition team as top-notch, highlighting their expertise in their field, knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to making each expedition cruise truly unforgettable and life changing.
Environmental responsibility
As a member of leading associations dedicated to protecting the Arctic and Antarctica, we take an active approach with projects such as Clean Up Svalbard, strict leave-no-waste policies, and a reduction of our footprint.
AWARDS
Safety and comfort Expedition cruising with Poseidon ensures active, yet safe polar exploration. Our highly trained team of professionals will help you navigate into the polar worlds in maximum possible comfort and safety.

Environmental Promise
We pledge our commitment to Arctic and Antarctic conservation and our support for related scientific research while striving to leave a smaller footprint when we travel. With various measures for environmental protection and sustainable expedition cruising, we are able to contribute to the preservation of the polar regions, which is a great responsibility and honor.
8 | Poseidon Expeditions | WE CARE
Water management
The wastewater produced on board the Sea Spirit is treated using an internationally certified and approved sewage treatment system, which utilizes a chemical chlorination and dechlorination process, producing a clean and safe effluent.
Small ship –smaller footprint
Waste management
The Sea Spirit utilizes a grinding machine to reduce the volume of waste, which is later separated and discharged or unloaded ashore according to local and international regulations. Waste aboard the 50 Let Pobedy is treated and stored in a special low-temperature eco-compartment, eliminating any waste discharge into the ocean.
Safe employment practices & standards
Our Sea Spirit crew return year after year for employment because the ship is an excellent place to work. The ship is regularly checked by inspectors from the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), and complies with all requirements for crew employment.
Energy management
The Sea Spirit has a comprehensive energy management plan compliant with international marine pollution prevention regulations, which are designed to improve energy efficiency of shipboard operations, reduce CO2 emissions from the ship, and minimize energy waste.
Day-to-day initiatives
We provide every passenger with a reusable water bottle; single-use plastic bottles and containers are eliminated. On board the Sea Spirit, chefs adhere to guidelines recommended by the Marine Stewardship Council for sustainability with regard to the types of seafood served.
MEMBERSHIPS
Poseidon Expeditions is a member in good standing of both the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) and the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO).
We're a proud contributor to the Clean Up Svalbard Program, as well as several of our own environmental initiatives.

Regions of the Arctic
Early summer > (June)
Svalbard’s resident polar bears welcome the summer with a frenzy of hunting activity. Millions of migratory seabirds and marine mammals join the feast. Snowfields give way to flowering tundra while glaciers shimmer in 24-hour daylight. Starting in late May, receding sea ice allows navigation along the beautiful west coast of Spitsbergen.
10 | Poseidon Expeditions | REGIONS OF THE ARCTIC
High summer > (July - August)
Discover Svalbard in July and relish the advantages of an Arctic summer, featuring excellent weather and abundant wildlife. In mid-August, seize the perfect opportunity to explore Northeast Greenland National Park (the largest in the world) and a spectacular area of fjords and wildlife such as reindeer, arctic fox, muskox, seals, whales and birdlife.
Late summer > (September)
In September, as Arctic nights become sufficiently dark, the magnificent fjords of East Greenland become the ideal place to watch mesmerizing northern lights displays. Days are still long enough to explore an outsized landscape of polychromatic mountains, blue glaciers, shining white icebergs, and tundra valleys awash in autumn colors.
poseidonexpeditions.com | 11 REGIONS OF THE ARCTIC |
Seasons of Antarctica
Early summer (October-November)
Snow and ice are plentiful in October and November as millions of ocean-going penguins and seabirds return to Antarctica at the start of their breeding season. Courtship rituals take place and eggs are laid. In South Georgia, gigantic elephant seal bulls battle ferociously for control of harems on the beaches. Newborn pups are soon to follow.
12 | Poseidon Expeditions | POLAR SEASONS
High summer (December - January)
These months deliver the warmest weather, nearly continuous daylight, and frenetic wildlife activity. This is the best time to observe fluffy penguin chicks in their nests. Great numbers of whales arrive in Antarctica to begin non-stop feeding on swarms of krill. The beaches of South Georgia are jam-packed with king penguins and fur seals.
Late summer (February - March
)
These are the prime months for viewing maturing penguin youngsters and energetic seal pups. An abundance of young animals and their many predators set the stage for dramatic events and amazing photo opportunities. This is also the best time for incredible encounters with whales of all kinds.

Standing on top of the world is an extraordinary feeling that only a few hundred people on our planet get to experience every year. While our Top of the World programs are on hold, we still keep exploring the most notable and unique destinations in the Arctic and Antarctic.
