An Alaskan Tale OUR ROOTS

Allen Marine, the parent company of Alaskan Dream Cruises, was established in 1967 when Bob and Betty Allen opened a shipyard in Sitka. Three years later they purchased and resurrected a sunken boat and outfitted it for sightseeing tours. The St. Michael (pictured above), as they would name the vessel, became the first in a long line of Allen Marine Tours boats.

While the company found success through its ingenuity and innovation, the most important ingredient was family. Bob and Betty’s children and grandchildren worked beside them, cleaning, crewing, fixing, and skippering the vessels. Extraordinarily personal tours were characterized by a unique and charming family atmosphere.

In 2011, after over 40 years of providing day marine tours with a company that had spread throughout Southeast Alaska, the Allens launched Alaskan Dream Cruises. The new overnight cruise company allowed the family to showcase more remote wilderness areas, glacial fjords, fishing towns, and Alaska Native villages—all places they had grown to love through personal explorations and family connections. The Alaskan Dream Cruises of today is run by Bob and Betty’s grandson.

THIRD GENERATION

Alaska Native Ownership

In 2025, you can choose from 7 dynamic cruises, including two brand new experiences—the Wild Alaska Odyssey (pg 34) and Alaska’s Ultimate Adventure (pg 32). Regardless of the itinerary you choose, you’ll find an inviting family atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and inspiring wilderness and cultural experiences. We’re excited to welcome you aboard!

Sharing our HERITAGE

We’re proud to be Alaska’s only Alaska Native-owned cruise line. We deeply celebrate and honor our Tlingit heritage by crafting onboard educational experiences and shore excursions that share our culture, as well as the cultures of the Haida and Tsimshian peoples.

Most of our itineraries feature a call at an Alaska Native village, which are among the least-traveled destinations in Alaska. In fact, we have an exclusive partnership to visit the village of Kasaan. In these communities, many residents continue to subsist off the land and sea.

LIVING CULTURES

Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian.

While you’ll have opportunities to enjoy several planned experiences, ranging from dance shows to artist demonstrations, you may also witness events unique to village life: a hunter’s return after a successful seal or deer hunt, families working together to hang their harvest of sockeye salmon in a smokehouse, or a ceremonial potlatch.

During onboard presentations, you’ll learn more about Alaska Native culture, including the fascinating history of our people, moieties and clans, and traditional art forms.

ACTIVE EXPLORATION

Our itineraries are designed to be active and hands-on. However, while some people choose to participate in everything offered, others prefer to relax on deck, taking in the scenery, reading a book, and sipping their favorite beverage. The choice is yours!

Expedition Craft

All our ships carry kayaks, allowing guests the serenity of paddling in shallow-water areas devoid of engine noise. Listening to the blade of the paddle gently cut through the water, with eagles and other shorebirds calling in the background, is truly unforgettable. To ensure guests of all skill levels can enjoy this exciting activity, we’ve designed custom-built kayak launchers for easy and safe loading and unloading. Our ships also carry inflatable expedition vessels, affording easy access to remote shorelines. These craft are also fantastic platforms for wildlife viewing and expeditions in glacial fjords.

Hiking & Exploring

Hiking is an integral part of our itineraries. Special permits obtained from the United States Forest Service allow us access to stunning wilderness areas within the Tongass National Forest.* In addition, on every itinerary you’ll have an opportunity to build a beach campfire, roast s’mores, swap stories, and enjoy the solitude. There’s simply no better way to relax, de-stress, and connect with nature.

If you’re looking for a higher level of activity, you may want to consider our new Alaska’s Ultimate Adventure cruise, featured on pages 32-33. *Alaskan Dream Cruises is authorized by Special Use Permit to provide guiding & outfitting services in the Tongass National Forest.

PREMIER WILDLIFE VIEWING

As pioneers of Alaska cruising, and after 50 years of operation, we’ve developed an unrivaled knowledge of the region’s most abundant wildlife areas.

WHALES, BEARS, EAGLES, & MORE

Southeast Alaska is famous for its seasonal migration of humpback whales, which engage in almost constant feeding behaviors. Orcas, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, Dall’s porpoises, harbor porpoises, and sea otters are also frequently spotted on our expeditions.

Our routes are designed to allow ample time for up-close encounters. If wildlife viewing is high on your list of priorities during your travels to Alaska, you’ll discover the benefits of our local, insider knowledge.

Commonly sighted terrestrial animals include both brown and black bears, mountain goats, and Sitka black-tailed deer. Occasionally, wolf and moose are seen.

FRESH ALASKA CUISINE

Our culinary program is aimed at capturing the essence of Alaska and showcases locally sourced ingredients. We proudly place a strong emphasis on Alaska cuisine, featuring dishes like line-caught salmon, halibut, rockfish, crab, and more. This year features expanded menu options, including vegetarian choices.

Telling Alaska’s Story Through Culinary Fare

Alaskan Dream Cruises’ cuisine is designed to not only delight your taste buds, but also to serve as a medium for teaching Alaskan history. You’ll discover unexpected yet delicious dishes on our menu, each with a fascinating connection to Alaska’s rich history, explained by our knowledgeable chef or staff. This is just one more way we deliver a “True Alaska” experience on every cruise!

Crispy skin king salmon with lemon caper sauce over roasted asparagas.

Fresh baked breads, pastries & desserts.

After dinners, you’ll have the opportunity to indulge in decadent desserts prepared by our onboard bakers. These talented crew members are also responsible for the delicious fresh-baked breads, pastries, and cookies served throughout the voyage.

Alaskan beers and spirits.

Our full-service bars are staffed by knowledgeable bartenders ready to serve your favorite beverages or cocktails. If you are in a suite category, alcohol is included in your cruise fare.

Halibut Olympia - An Alaskan classic, with caramelized onions, dill cream, and crispy parmesan breading, served over sticky rice.
Sumac Spiced Weathervane Scallops - Local, fresh scallops served with a blackberry agave sauce, sauteed kale, and lemon orzo.

REMOTE CAMPFIRE

Remote Beach Campfire Experience

As an Alaska Native-owned company, we are constantly looking for ways you can experience Alaska like the locals. One of our favorite things to do is to stop off at a remote shoreline, build a beach campfire, roast s’mores, swap stories, and enjoy the solitude. There’s simply no better way to relax, de-stress, and connect with nature (and friends and family)! So, we’re now offering this experience on every Alaskan Dream Cruises sailing, depending on weather.

Get ready to smell the woodsmoke in the air, watch for eagles overhead, beachcomb, listen to the ocean gently lap on the shore, and indulge in roasted marshmallows while basking in the warmth of a glowing beach fire. While you watch the flames flicker and dance against a backdrop of mountains, islands, ocean, and forest, you’ll think, “Now THIS is True Alaska!”

Orca Point Lodge (pictured on the right) rests on Colt Island adjacent to Admiralty Island National Monument, also known as Kootznoowoo, meaning “Fortress of the Bears.” Guests can also enjoy a marine life viewing tank filled with a wide array of intertidal zone sea creatures. S’mores!

EXCLUSIVE LODGES

Select itineraries feature a relaxing evening at one of our company-owned lodges. Orca Point Lodge features stunning views from shore including scenic Stephens Passage and Admiralty Island National Monument. Sights from Fin Island Lodge include Sitka Sound and a network of beautiful rainforest islands.

Indulge in Alaska crab and other delicious fare in the lodge, then nestle up to a cozy beachside fire to roast s’mores and share stories with fellow travelers. Enjoy easy beach access for a relaxing stroll next to the water’s edge. Scan the ocean and shorelines of nearby islands through our binoculars, looking for eagles and marine life.

Fin Island Lodge was constructed with locally sourced timber and completed in 2018. The building is often able to run entirely off energy provided by its rooftop solar panels. With walkable shorelines facing both north and south, guests have an opportunity to savor multiple viewpoints of “Sitka by the Sea.”

SUSTAINABILITY

RESPECT GIVING BACK COMMUNITY

Stewards of Alaska - As an Alaska Native-owned company and small ship experts, we understand the important connection between a healthy Alaska and thriving communities and business. That’s why we’re committed to sustainable practices throughout our operations.

From reducing single-use plastics and minimizing our carbon footprint to sourcing local ingredients and supporting Alaska-made products, we strive to preserve the natural beauty we share with our guests.

This commitment extends to the delicious offerings aboard. When you indulge in our seafood, you can know it was caught locally using sustainable methods, like hook-and-line fishing, by Alaskan families. We proudly serve locally brewed beers from Sitka, our homeport, and actively seek out Alaskan-made products whenever possible.

We collaborate closely with tribal leaders and residents to ensure our visits have a positive impact, supporting local economies based on each community’s terms and empowering rural communities to thrive within the visitor industry.

“Absolutely the best experience I could ask for... oh and the food!”

“This was truly the Alaskan Dream. There isn’t a thing I can think of that would make it better. I would recommend this cruise to everyone who wants a truly Alaskan adventure!”

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN TRUE ALASKA

All-Inclusive Expedition Cruises

Our all-inclusive, small ship itineraries offer a mix of excursions in intriguing towns and Alaska Native villages, and adventures in raw wilderness bays and glacial fjords. This approach provides travelers with a comprehensive look at all the Inside Passage has to offer.

Every Alaskan Dream Cruises experience is hand-picked for its value in immersing you in True Alaska and each itinerary boasts a unique mix. Check out our itinerary pages beginning on page 26 for details on each destination.

The following are included in your passenger fare:

• All meals aboard the vessel or where otherwise indicated.

• Select shore excursions as indicated in itinerary.

• Use of recreational equipment as indicated in itinerary.

• Complimentary glass of wine or beer with dinner.

• And more!

LIFE ABOARD OUR SMALL SHIPS

Prefer wildlife viewing over show tunes? Educational presentations over nightlife? Impromptu kayak paddles over the spa or casino? You’ve come to the right place. Our Sitka, Alaska-based company aims to immerse you in the local culture and sights of our backyard - what we’ve come to call the True Alaska.

Flexibility is Freedom : Our schedules are flexible, not rigid. This allows us to stop for wildlife encounters and adjust the day’s plans for unforgettable experiences. Imagine spotting a pod of orcas in a quiet bay or a bear lumbering along the shore from afar; your captain will seize the opportunity for an unforgettable wildlife encounter.

Cozy Comfort

Relaxation Reigns

As an Alaskan-owned line, we boast a refreshingly relaxed vibe. Ditch the suits and gowns! Pack your favorite fleece, jeans, and adventure gear instead. Unless there is a navigational concern (i.e. running at night, in fog, ice, etc.) even our wheelhouse has an opendoor policy, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared adventure.

There are trade-offs, and we make no secrets about them. Smaller ships mean less cabin space, public areas, and amenities. But the upside? An intimate environment where you’ll truly connect with fellow passengers and our incredible crew, from wait staff to captain. Our staterooms feature a variety of category options. While naturally smaller than on larger ships, they’re well-appointed with plush beds, fresh towels and linens, private heads with showers, and ocean-view windows. You’ll even find Alaskan-made shampoos and soaps in your cabin! But with so much to explore, you won’t spend much time here anyway—just a place for a comfortable night’s sleep or nap between adventures. Our crew-to-guest ratio ensures personalized service throughout your journey.
