WELCOME
On behalf of everyone at welcome to Carols by Candlelight.
We look forward to this event every year as it captures the very essence of our organisation which is about celebrating the achievements of blind, visually impaired, and disabled people.
We hope you’ll enjoy tonight’s performances, join in with the carols, leave with a warm glow, and a smile on your face. If you take part in our raffle, you might also go home with a great prize, or your Christmas presents sorted. It costs £5 for a strip of 5 tickets, and you can buy as many strips as you like.
Thanks to the support of our sponsors, all the funds from our raffle ticket and refreshment sales will go directly towards our work in the community, so please be as generous as you can be, as your kindness will have a positive impact on the lives of those we help. To find out more about our services, how to access them, and the impact they have, turn to pages ‘6 - 7’.
For now, have a lovely evening, and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for supporting Henshaws.
Stephen Tongue, Director of Fundraising
Please note that there will be internal and external recording and photography happening throughout the evening which may be used for future marketing purposes. If anyone does not want to be filmed or photographed, please make yourself known to a member of the Henshaws team. Thank You.

TONIGHT’S PERFORMERS
TONIGHT’S PERFORMERS
DAVID STEELE
Dave Steele is an award-winning poet, author, public speaker, and advocate for the blind.
Diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) 10 years ago, this genetic eye condition left Dave severely sight impaired. Dave was a Henshaws ambassador for many years before being made a Patron in 2023. He has just released a new book, ‘The Big Test’ the first part of the Austin’s Amazing Adventures series, aimed at children aged 5 to 10. You’ll find the book on sale tonight - it would make the perfect Christmas stocking filler. Dave is a veteran of numerous Carols by Candlelight events, and we’re delighted, and grateful to have him back to compere this evening’s event.
HENSHAWS CHILDREN'S CHOIR
Henshaws Children’s Choir are full of energy and enthusiasm, and are guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Together they will perform a medley of Christmas favourites.
SVITOCH UKRAINIAN CHOIR
Svitoch, formed as the UK emerged from the pandemic. The choir brings together talented singers from the Ukrainian diaspora in the UK and refugees who have escaped the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The choir’s members include conservatoiretrained and seasoned performers, some of whom have previously sung in prestigious venues across Europe and America, including Carnegie Hall and Albert Hall.
DENISE LEIGH AND STEFAN ANDRUSYSCHYN
Opera singer Denise Leigh and her husband, English champion accordionist Stefan Andrusyschyn, are Internationally acclaimed performers and Henshaws Ambassadors. We couldn’t imagine our carol concert without them. If you don’t recognise them from Carols by Candleight, you may recognise them from Britain’s Got Talent where they received a standing ovation from the audience, and brought the judges to tears. We’re delighted to welcome them back and we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support to our charity.

WE THREE KINGS
We three kings of Orient are; Bearing gifts, we traverse afar Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star.
CHORUS
O star of wonder, star of night, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading still proceeding, Guide us to Thy perfect light.
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain, Gold I bring, to crown Him again, King forever, ceasing never Over us all to reign.
CHORUS
Frankincense to offer have I, Incense owns a Deity nigh. Prayer and praising all men raising, Worship Him, God most high.
CHORUS
Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume Breathes a life of gathering gloom; Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying, Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
CHORUS
Glorious now behold Him arise, King and God and Sacrifice, Alleluia, Alleluia, Earth to the heav'ns replies.
CHORUS
'O
COME ALL YE FAITHFUL'
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold him
Born the King of Angels:
O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.
God of God, light of light, Lo, he abhors not the Virgin's womb; Very God, begotten, not created: O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation, Sing, all ye citizens of Heaven above!
Glory to God, glory in the highest: O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.
Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this Christmas morning; Jesu, to thee be glory given!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing! O come, let us adore Him, (3×)
Christ the Lord.

ADVENTURE
This Christmas, help visually impaired young people experience a year filled with adventure and discovery!
Could give a young person the thrill of a kayaking trip, letting them feel the excitement and confidence of taking to the water for the very first time!
Could help a young person feel the joy of riding a bike for the first time—an empowering experience they’ll never forget!
Could support a young person’s first night away from home on a Henshaws Residential Trip. They’ll build confidence, make lifelong friends, and embrace new challenges in a warm, supportive environment.
