Danville-Center Twp. Library Receives Recycling Grant

The Danville-Center Township Public Library received a 2020 Hendricks County Recycling District Community Grant. Each year the District offers grants to local tax-exempt and not-for-profit organizations that take on projects that further the District’s mission of waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
The library is using this grant to expand its recycling program. Three new outdoor recycling containers for bottles and cans have been purchased. Also, three new trash containers were obtained by the library. The new containers are located near the Indiana Street entrance, the Marion Street entrance and in the Reading Garden.
For many years, the library has had a recycling program. At first, the library recycled paper, plastic and cans. Blue recycling totes are located in several work areas. About 1 ½ years ago, a large toter was obtained. At that time, the Library began recycling cardboard. This is done on a weekly basis through Ray’s Trash Service. With the purchase of the outdoor recycling containers, the library is now able to expand recycling of bottles and cans to the public. The goal is not only to educate the public on the benefits of recycling, but to lead by example.
The Hendricks County Recycling District Community Grant helps the library move forward with our recycling program. The Danville-Center Township Public Library’s board and staff thanks the Hendricks County Recycling District for their help in expanding our recycling program. ______________________________________________
Council OKs Street Closures, New Truck
Snow didn’t slow the Danville Town Council from its businesses on February 17. Fortunately, the agenda was short, as was the meeting.
Sarah Fentz, appearing on behalf of the Downtown Danville Merchants, requested street closures on Jefferson and Washington streets on the square on June 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the second annual Destination Danville event. The request was approved.
Another request for street closures came from Kelly DiBenedetto for the Danville Chamber of Commerce’s Farmers Market. The Market will be on Washington Street, east side of the square on Saturdays mornings from May 8 to Sept. 4. This also received approval.
Ronn Oren, president of the Downtown Danville Partnership, introduced the group’s new Executive Director, Anne Johannson.
Still in an approving mood, the Council okayed the expenditure request from the Water Dept. for a new service truck to replace the current one, in service since 1993. The request was for $48,484.50 for the cab and chassis, plus $35,355 for custome buildout. ___________
