Texas Anti Marijuana Laws Should Be Banned

Texas has had a long history of being a state that marijuana is smuggled into across the border with Mexico. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest in the United States with high fines and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas laws the possession of 2oz or less can result in 180 days in jail and or a fine up to $2000 dollars, as well as your license being suspended for 12 months. So why does Texastake a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why does Texas keep throwing money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow Texans are going to have their lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground. Through research I will show and explain how the current aggressive laws and policy against marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but every Texan. The beginning of Texas anti marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso (Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas had no laws concerning the usage or sale of the plant, but then the stories of people using marijuana in Mexico and terrorizing people made their way to El Paso and the Deputy Sheriff Stanley Good. Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to make the substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico will come to the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. At the time marijuana use was prevalent in the border towns by both Americans and Mexicans but nobody gave it any

The risks of working with other students Some assessment tasks are explicitly designed for group work, and it will be made clear that a group answer is expected from you. All other tasks are intended as an assessment of your individual comprehension and performance, and group answers are not permitted. In individually assessed forms of assessment your work must be different from that of every other student. In both cases it is possible for you to ask other people about how best to answer the questions or complete the necessary tasks

You should be aware that different modules and subjects may have different requirements. In some subjects, answers to questions may, for example, require every student on a module to employ or refer to the same diagram(s), concepts and the like in order to construct an acceptable answer. You should note, however, that even in these circumstances your explanations of what the diagrams mean, and any other writing referring to any common diagrams and concepts should all be in your own words. Moreover, the situation may be very different on other modules, where the submission of work that has a very similar structure, or the use of very similar materials such as concepts, diagrams, quotations and the like, to that of another student, may lead to you being accused of

Pablo Escobar Papers

When you hear the name Pablo Escobar what words or images pop up in your head? If someone were to ask me this question the words criminal, cocaine, and drug lord would instantly pop up in my head. Pablo Escobar is well known throughout the United States and other countries. If you don t know much about Mr. Escobar, please take a seat and I will show you the inside world of Pablo Escobar and what exactly he s about. After reading this paper, you will get a better understanding of what Mr. Escobar did and why he is so famous still to this day all around the world.

Pablo Escobar was born on December 1st, 1949 in Rionegro, Colombia. Mr. Escobar had a total of six siblings not including himself. He was a son of a teacher and a farmer. At a very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

He tried to stay on a low radar as much as possible like any criminal would. To him getting caught up with the law would pull time away from his drug trade business. If he was distracted from his business for any reason, he would be losing money. IF he was losing money or money was ever slowed down, he wouldn t like it one bit. We humans nowadays are pushed and motivated by money. In today s society everything requires money, and if you re not getting money, you can do much in life and in society. The same goes for Mr. Escobar, even though he had millions, to even billions of dollars, he wanted more money. So with everything he was doing from drug trades, to sending hitman to murder people; he would try and stay on a low radar as much as possible. In the 1990s, Pablo Escobar s system was good the Colombian government couldn t take him down as easy they thought they could. The United States kept pushing the Colombian government to extradite Mr. Escobar, but Mr. Escobar feared that option. That was the only thing Pablo Escobar was truly scared of in his lifetime to be extradited to the United States. Finally, in 1991 Mr. Escobar s lawyers and Colombian authorities came up with a plan to settle all the debate. A reliable source from latinamericanhistory.about.com states Escobar turned himself in and serve a five year jail term. In return he would build his own prison and would not be extradited to the United State or anywhere else. (Christopher Minster, 2012). The prison he built was called La Catedral . This prison wasn t your ordinary prison. This was a paradise palace for Mr. Escobar, but many think that he isn t in a prison. Pablo Escobar s was equipped with a waterfall, soccer field, helicopter pad, and much more. In the United States, there are no prisons that are like Mr. Escobar s. Now that he is in jail you would think Mr. Escobar gave up on his empire and business, but you thought wrong. Pablo Escobar

Capitalism And Catholic Social Teaching

Over the 20th century, numerous conflicts and wars were fought over which economic system is better capitalism or communism . To summarize, capitalism encourages a free market, where competition between businesses drives the market. In communist societies, the government is in control of private propertyand means of production. These viewpoints held on the economy s days since Cory do not necessarily match up with Catholic Social Doctrine, which disagrees with the moral relativism of Unregulated capitalism. It also disagrees with the religious suppression characterizing communist Governments, as well as the communist stance on property as something that should be collective. This suggests Catholic Social Teachingis unique in the context... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ideally, a communist government values the rights of the impoverished, workers and others. Both Catholic Socialist Teachings and communism, as envisioned by Marx and Engels, suggest a more collectivist approach to society by comparison to what is advocated for by capitalism, which placed less emphasis on society s collective. One particular element of communist teachings/government is the disdain for religion within the ideology. Karl Marx himself was known to have a negative view of organized religion, and this is expressed within his writings. To Marx, religion was a means of suppressing the lower classes, and placating them so that they would hot be hostile towards the rulers of European governments and industrial tycoons of the time. Marx s disdain for organized religion went on to affect cultures of societies with communist governments. For example, in Russia, the revolution and the following rise of the Soviets led to decreased influence of the Russian Orthodox Church, as the state was officially atheist. The attitude towards religion in communist thought has an obvious conflict with the principles of Catholicism, when this difference in religious belief (or lack thereof) is considered. Another area where Catholic Social Ethics differ

Humpty Commercial

During this past week s Super Bowl game, there were three different commercial advertisements containing elderly actors and their corresponding messages about the elderly that specifically stood out to me. Turbo Tax, an online and convenient self reporting tax system app, sponsored the first commercial. In the commercial, Humpty Dumpty fell off a wall due to doing his taxes via Turbo Tax. The king s men try to assist in putting him back together and the news of his fall goes viral. In one scene, a group of older women sits underneath blow dryers in a beauty salon, chatting amongst one another and speculating why Humpty Dumpty was doing his taxing and unanimously deciding the news story was questionable. Such a case conveys and in many ways solidifies the stereotype that as we age, especially for older women, we have much more time for leisure activities, care more about maintaining our... When he hands the garment back to the old man, it now sleeveless just like his, thus, without the soy sauce stain it came in with when the old man delivered it. The old man complains to the worker and asks about what had happened to his shirt. When the worker tries to explain and asks for the payment, kindly adding a discount to his bill total, the old man grumpily refuses and leaves the store. I think that this commercial sends out a message that those in older adulthood are more likely to be difficult customers when attempting to receive a service, frugal despite receiving a discount and less likely to understand or even attempt to adjust to new trends in fashion like sleeveless male shirts. Overall, these commercials were very funny and enjoyable to watch, but highlight many stereotypes about the elderly that persist in our society that may or may not be rightly

Group Reflection Essay

Participation in group discussions has been a weakness for me, but I have communicated with my PIE group everyday to discuss homework and exams. Although I was not a leader in the classroom, I did serve as leader in my tri pie and I took initiative to talk to Mrs. McMillan about my speech and group. I believe I deserve a 90/100 in my communicationand participation skills. With my tri pie, I would remind them everyday for homework, projects, and exams. I would explain any questions they would have and provide extra info and study guides for them. For example, I would insist that they do the quizlet I created for Freshmen and Sophomore vocabulary everyday for at least 15 minutes a day. I also used videochat to help both of my members for presentation and speeches. We would practice for at least 30 minutes for any presentation, such as the Side Project. As a result, we got a 38/45. We took advantage of break by practicing our part during that time. This helped us improve our abilities and skills on presentation because I would give my perspective on our group s strengths and weaknesses. From this communication, I decided to create a group chat called Carrot Juice to discuss our problems and how we could solve them by working together. One of the problems we had was our grade checks, so we used our group chat to message each other when to meet up, such as at break. By doing this, we were familiar with each other and our communication began to grow because we began using this social platform more often. When one of our PIE members was absent, we would use this group chat to collect and turn in their homework even though they were not there. Furthermore, I communicated with Mrs. McMillan about my speech and how I could improve on it. I took her notes into consideration about my posture and engagement with the audience. I asked her how I could improve my specific flaws, which resulted in me choosing a different story in my fifth attempt. Because of Mrs. McMillan s advice, I received an all perfect on my speech. Additionally, I asked McMillan s advice on how I could further support my group because I believed a person with year s of experience would be more helpful than doing it alone. I discussed my

Essay On Opening Retreat

Overview

As the Director of Career Services at the University of the New River I am planning an opening retreat for my staff. In our department, we strive to help students define their life and career visions. Through connecting students in personalized ways to resources, people, organizations, and opportunities we help them make their visions a reality. Our department is comprised of five full time staff members and one graduate assistant. In planning the annual retreat, I have consulted with both assistant directors. Since our department helps students bridge the gap between their academic skills and the real world, our team believes it is important to have a close connection with academic affairs. Thus, our topic for this year s opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Many of the principles of the SLI focus on the necessity for faculty to collaborate with student affairs professionals to make student learning a campus wide priority. George Kuh (1996) used the principles in the SLI to develop six principles to guide institutions to integrate the curriculum and extra curriculum: generate enthusiasm for institutional renewal; create a common vision of learning; develop a common language; foster collaboration and cross functional dialogue; examine the influence of student cultures on student learning; and focus on systematic change. The common element in each of the six principles is campus wide collaboration.

The cultures and functions of academic and student affairs are different enough that there is an accepted inclination for the two to remain separate. However, it is critical to design unique and engaging ways to encourage personnel in the two divisions to come together in the shared purpose of improving student learning. It is important to facilitate discussion between the two divisions. As Baxter and Baxter (2011) explain, we need to organize our institutions in a way that engages mixed groups of people and forces us to venture outside traditional silos (p. 70). Before academic and student affairs personnel can create meaningful collaborative programs and services, they need to engage in cross divisional dialogue to discuss each other s roles,

British Invasion Research Paper

British Invasion a term denoting the musical phenomenon of the middle to the second half of the 60 s, when the British rock music began to dominate both national and international charts (mostly American). The beginning of the phenomenon is considered to be an American success of The Beatles with a single «I Want to Hold Your Hand» and visit of the band to America, including participation in the Ed Sullivan show. The end of British Invasion can be considered the growth in popularity of psychedelic rock in 1966 1967, when the major American psychedelic bands were able to have a decent competition to the British.
