My Pods and Broomsticks a very controversial episode of The Simpsons is full of satire, concentrating in the main theme of stereotypes and the ignorance of consumers in this day and age. These are represented through the Simpsons, elements, or flaws of modern society are cleverly displayed using many devices such as humour, puns, ironyand sarcasm. When analyse an episode of the Simpson it gets you thinking, does the Simpson serve a greater propose than to just entertain? In the start of the show, the Simpsonsenter into the new store that opened up at their mall, Mapple . This is a pun that represent Apple. Lisa is absorbed by Mapple and all the Mypods but everything is too expensive and she can t afford to buy one. She asks a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He tells her he can t help her and says I know our posters say Think Differently but our real slogan is No Refunds. This is sarcasm of merchandise corporations and the way they fool people into thinking they mean well, when really they just want our cash. Along with the satireof the ignorance of consumers these episode also discusses many stereotypes of modern day society. In this episode Bart meets a new kid, Bashir whose family recently moved to the United States from Jordan. The Simpsons have Bashir and his family over for dinner and Homer becomes suspicious of them because they are Muslim. Throughout the episode Homer tries, to prove that Bashir s parents are terrorists. This situation represents the stereotypes that are created by society and some believe that all Muslim are dangerous terrorist. Sarcasm is shown in many instances, one that stuck out was when Homer makes fun of the Muslim religion and culture. Instead of saying Praise Allah he says Praise be to Oliver and instead of saying the Kuraan, he says the Corona Stereotypes are shown when Homer automatically assumes that Bashir s parents are terrorists since they are Muslim. Another example is when one of Homer s friend Leny tells him He s Muslim, so he must be up to something. Throughout this episode, these two aspects of modern day society are
Jeevanjot Singh 800417Political Science 100 Sarah Munawar Writing of Bhagat Singh and mahatma Gandhi on the use of violence as instrument in politics Violence in politics means to oppose or to struggle against the policies of ruling government or authority by strikes, revolutions, riots, etc. India was ruled by the British government from 1858 to 1947 and this period is called colonial rule. The British government took all the power and control from Indians in very less time. Violence plays a crucial role in every revolution, as it helped India during the independence movement from the British Raj where number of freedom fighters such as Lala Lajpat rai, Bhagat Singh and many more lost their lives for the country. At that time two main revolution took place in India, violence and non violence. Bhagat Singh was portrayed as a macho gun toting freedom fighter who believed that violence is more effective a way of achieving independence from British rule (Saha para 4) whereas Gandhi took the religious principle of ahimsa (doing no harm) common to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism and turned it into a non violent tool for mass action and demanded the transfer of power from the Britishers (BBC 1). Here, I would like to compare and contrast ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh on the use of violence as an instrument of politics. Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh both were freedom fighters and put their efforts in Independence of India. Gandhi believes in
Gross domestic product (GDP) is the total output of absolute commodities and services that a nation puts out including exports but not including imports. Gross domestic product is used to measure the health of a national and global economy. When gross domestic product is increasing, particularly if inflation is not an issue, employees and industries are usually better off than when it is not. GDP signifies the economic growth and production, symbolizing the whole dollar value of all goods and services produced over a precise time period. It sums up the output created within the margins of a country. GDP is made up of goods and services produced for sale in the market. The GDP is the sum of domestic consumption; new capital investments; government spending, and the difference between the values of goods imported into the United States and the value of exports to other countries.
Gross domestic product can be measured in two ways using income approach or expenditure method. When using the income approach, GDP (I), you add up what everyone made in one year, which would include rent, wages, interest and profits earned, by the selling of the merchandises in the nations market. The income approach is determined by accumulating the total payment to workers, gross profits for incorporated and non incorporated companies, and taxes without aids. This method is the most complicated because measuring income is much more complex than measuring spending. Whereas, when using the

BARGAINING POWER OF BUYERS8 2.4 THREAT OF ENTRY9 2.5 THREAT OF SUBSTITUTES9 CONCLUSION10 APPENDIX11 REFERENCES13 Introduction In this paper I will apply Porter s Five Forces Framework on the traditional oil and gas upstream industry in the UK. The company of my choice is EnQuest PLC, the largest UK independent oil producer in the UK North Sea. 1.About The Model Porter s Five Forces model is designed to assess the attractiveness of an industry based on the actual or potential competition through the following five forces: Rivalry Among Existing Competitors; Threat of New Entrants; Bargaining Power of Buyers; Bargaining Power of Suppliers; Threat of Substitute Products or Services (Johnson et al., 2014). The framework is a holistic approach to analysing any industry and is based on the principle that the stronger the five forces are, the less attractive it is to compete. Hence, high threat of new entrants and substitutes combined with high bargaining power of buyers and suppliers diminishes industry profitability (Porter 2008). 1.1 Advantages Historically, the Five Forces Framework has
In the first half of this paper, I will be discussing the difference between Homeland Security and Homeland Defense. I will be discussing the different roles that each department handles, which include each departments missions, tasks, duties, responsibilities, operations and other various issues that separate the two. I will also address the responsibilities of both homeland security and Homeland Defense that are shared between the two. Then I will use this information to provide my own description of Homeland Security.
In the second half of this paper, I will be assessing the Critical Infrastructure protection programs of the United States. National Infrastructure Protection Plan as Systems and assets, whether physical or virtual, so vital that the incapacity or destruction of such may have a debilitating impact on the security, economy, public health or safety, environment, or any combination of these matters, across any Federal, State, regional, territorial, or local jurisdiction (DHS 2009, 109).
From this definition, one can reasonably presume that protection of these assets is vital to the well being of the United States and as such is an essential element of homeland security. (U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 2009) I will then provide my assessment on what I feel is working and what could be improved in our Critical Infrastructure. I will finish this paper by giving conclusions and my final opinion on both Homeland Security versus Homeland Defense, and how
The debate between whether gay marriage should be legalized or not has been a controversial topic recently. In the past twelve years, equal marriage rights have been legalized in 6 states of the U.S.. Eighteen states do not allow gay marriage and do not recognize civil unions. The other twenty six states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage should be legal across the United States.
Not allowing gay marriage in any state is unconstitutional. If one state is to allow gay marriage, then the people that get married in that state are supposed to be legally married in all other states of the United States (Hertz). The constitution states, in article 5, that anything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his post menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now surrender their wedding rings! That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to persuade based on the marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought. Same sex couples aren t the optimum environment in which to raise children. That s an interesting one, in light of who society does allow to get married and bring children into their marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so every day, with hardly a second thought by these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here, why is this allowed? Why are the advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above categories of people from raising children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted and occasionally their own from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific studies have shown that the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples are just as good as those of straight couples. The differences have been shown again and again to be insignificant. Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the
I chose to design my classroom layout for twenty four fourth graders. When designing my class, I reminded myself that I may have students in my class with special needs. For this reason, my classroom is designed so that anyone can get to one point to another without any problems. The rows between all the clusters of desks are wide, and there is a pathway around the whole room that can be used to go to different parts of my room. There is also a tableat the back of the room that students with handicap disabilities may use if a deskis not suitable for them. This table may also be useful for students with an aide. Although it is located in the back of the room, it is still near the clusters of desks so these students will not feel left out from the rest of the class. I chose to arrange my students desks in clusters of four, so that my students will be able to interact on specific assignments and group activities daily. I will not have four random students in each group, but rather place a high, low, low medium, and high medium learning ability student in each cluster. This will allow me to sometimes pair two lows or two highs or a high and a low together. This will be an advantage for all students because the highs will be able to assist the lows by demonstrating what needs to be done, while they are helping themselves from understanding concepts in a more intellectual way because they will be explaining them to others. These clusters are placed in the center of the room so
