Sg. 1 mæg meahte mihte, mihten 2 meaht } mæge meahtest 3 mæg meahte

Pl. magon mægen meahton In the simple future usage, the different meanings of shall and will depending on which grammatical person is being used is an example of suppletion, the commingling of words from separate roots into a single paradigm. Both shall and will are verbs of ancient Germanic ancestry. In Proto Indo European, an inflected future tense existed, but that tense was lost in Germanic. In all Germanic languages, the future tense is formed with auxiliary verbs; this was the case in Gothic and the earliest recorded expressions of Germanic languages. The verb shall represents Old English sceal, and is cognate with Old Norse skal, German soll, and Dutch zal; these all represent *skol , the o grade of Indo European *skel . All of these verbs function as auxiliaries in each language, and represent either simple futurity or necessity. The verb will is cognate with the noun will, of course, and continues Old English willan, which represents *willjan. It occurs in Old Norse vilja, German wollen, Dutch willen, Gothic wiljan; it has many relatives outside of Germanic as well, including, for example, Latin velle to wish for or Polish (West Slavic) ja wolę I would rather / prefer. All of these forms derive from the e grade or o grade of Indo European *wel , meaning to

Descriptive Essay On Squirrel Hunter Gumbo

Squirrel Hunter Gumbo

The first documented references to gumbo, according to Dr. Carl A. Brasseaux of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, was in 1803 when gumbo was served at a gubernatorial reception in New Orleans. Since then gumbo has become a symbol of Louisiana cooking and like any recipe that has time to evolve the accepted methods can become blurred from one cook to another. While many types of gumbos exist within Louisiana itself just wait until an outsider gets a taste and takes it home, which is just what I did many years ago. I was living in a tent in New Iberia Louisiana while refurbishing helicopters for an off shore logistics company. I learned to enjoy gumbo while living in New Iberia and now want to share with you my gumbo recipe made with squirrel meat. My first bowl of gumbo was in a restaurant in Louisiana and when the lady set it down in front of me I remember wondering if something was wrong. I actually called her back and asked her why there were bones sticking out of my soup. She told me that was the way they made gumbo and walked away. OK the taste was great so I began eating and when I wanted some chicken I just grabbed a bone out of the gumbo. Then I got a shrimp in my mouth and crunched into the tail which had been left on as well. I enjoyed that bowl of gumbo, sort of, but vowed to make it myself without the bones and this is just one example of changing a recipe to suit your taste.

Grant Wiggins Influence On Identity

Grant s identity is greatly influenced by the choices he makes to help Jefferson become a man, talking sense into Jefferson, and doing what he can to prevent him from being executed. Grant Wiggins is doing whatever he can to help Jefferson become a man before the day of his execution. In the book, Grant visits the prison where Jefferson is and helps him to become a man before the execution. Towards the end of the novel, Grant states to Jefferson, I want you to chip away at that myth by standing. I want you yes you to call them liars. I want you to show them that you are as much a man more a man than they can ever be (Gains 192). What Grant is wanting Jefferson to do is stand up for himself. He wants Jefferson to be confident in his truth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book, Grant is the one who talks to Jefferson in this tough time and tries to excite him to stand up for his innocence. Grant says, Those out there are no better than we are. They are worse, that s why they re always looking for a scapegoat. I want you to show them the difference between what they think you are and what you can be (Gains 191). Grant is trying to find something inside of Jefferson to get him to fight for his innocence. They think he s guilty but they both know that he s innocent. Grant is trying to tell Jefferson that he needs to find the inner strength to stand up for what he knows is right. Also, Grant says to Jefferson, I can t tell you anything about life, he said. What do I know about life? I stayed here. There s nothing but ignorance here. You want to know about life? Well it s too late. Forget it. Just go on and be the nigger you re born to be, but forget about life (Gains 65). Grant is clearly frustrated with himself and the situation. He s at a loss at what to say to Jefferson, so he tells him to live up to the stereotype. Grant is saying everything he knows to try and convince Jefferson to proclaim his innocence. Grant continues to try and motivate Jefferson by instilling some sense into

Approach To Screamfree Parenting Analysis

Being a parent is a lifelong commitment individuals make when having a child. The responsibilities that come with being a parent can be a heavy burden to carry. However, we find that the rewards of parenting outweigh its cost. Its likely for parent s to become too involved in their children s lives. This can have a detrimental affect on the parent s well being and result in negative reactions. Hal Edward Runkel, a licensed marriage and family therapist, takes a scream free approach to parenting. Runkel earned his master s degree from Abilene Christian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He redefines what it means to be a cool parent, addressing that the expectations of parents having to keep up with the latest trends in order to relate to their child is inaccurate. Being a cool parent begins when the parent s authority is challenged by his or her child, and they remain calm (Runkel, 2007, p. 1). Runkel (2007) states that a parent who s truly in charge, allows there to be room for growth without making constant demands of their children (p. 29). Runkel makes the significant distinction between being responsible for your kids and having responsibility to your kids. Illustrating that it s the parent s responsibility to be the kind of parent their child needs. Such as, provide for their basic needs and model appropriate behavior. He stresses that parents cannot control their children s actions but what they can control is how they choose to respond and address them. It s crucial for parents to not depend on their child s behavior being factored into their happiness. What children need most is for their parents to be the first ones who see them as individuals in their own right with their own lives and decisions and futures (Runkel, 2007, p. 77). Aside from parents being aware of their emotional reactivity, they must also be conscious of the space their children need in order to grow. Giving children the space to make their own mistakes without continual direction, will keep them from living borrowed lives (Runkel, 2007, p. 79). Runkel informs eight ways parents can provide their children with emotional

Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard Essay

Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard

Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard is an amusing, revealing essay in which the speaker, a woman in her twenties or thirties, tells the audience stories about her mother and her mother s unusual personality. The ultimate purpose of the essay is to show by the mother s various quirks and rules how her daughter is inspired to be her own person, stand up for the underdog, and to keep people on their toes, and to hopefully pass this lesson on to the audience. The speaker has written this essay in descriptive, comprehensive terms which convey to the audience how special and remarkable her mother was, and to share some of her teachings with the rest of the world. Though the mother in this essay uses extraordinary words and is obviously a well educated woman, the diction used by the speaker is generally straightforward to the average person; therefore, it can be concluded that the story was written for the average person. The terms used are nonetheless very specific and suited to their purpose of describing the mother, especially with several precise adjectives appearing constantly. The mother has an emotional voice (p. 78), holds unpopular, even fantastic, positions (p. 78), and gives a vibrantly innocent look (p. 77) after destroying a game of bridge. However, the essay does require thinking, as several of the examples of the mother s behavior and phrases that she employs are very clever and include a much more sophisticated diction, as is true in the mother s life. When she responds to the question Save stamps? (p. 75) with No...I build model airplanes (p. 75). Even the speaker could not understand what her meant for years, which was that building model airplanes was her hobby, not collecting stamps. The tone and diction that the speaker uses is simple, but the reader has to work harder to understand examples of things the speaker s mother does or says. The speaker also makes good use of literary devices, though they rarely appear. She makes an allusion to Samson (p.77) when talking

Statement For The Three Forms Of Visual Art

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

There are three forms of Visual Art. Painting is art to look at, Sculpture is art you can walk around, and Architecture is art you can walk through Dan Rice.

Since childhood, I have been very passionate about art may it be drawing apple in nursery class, my first painting of sunrise and sunset scene in 1st standard or singing my own written song on the very first day of college and being awarded as fresh talent in the university. I have always had a certain kind of tilt towards art because of the fact that art creates things which is soothing to me, which actually gives me relief. I use to find immense pleasure in painting, drawing, singing and writing but at that time I didn t knew what I wanted to be, but in my late childhood whenever I was asked what I wanted to be my answer used to be a painter. However in high school I opted for non medical rather than arts. These two years of high school and learning science didn t gave me pleasure which brought me to a firm decision that I will not opt for science further rather I will follow my passion. Fortunately my parents also noticed my passion about art and they encouraged me further to unleash my creativity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
