The 1812 Theatre Company is our in-house amateur company, with a rich and varied show history, producing four productions and the everpopular 1812 Pantomime each year. We’re always keen to welcome new members. Whatever age, with or without experience, there are many ways you can join in: on or offstage! The 1812 also has a play reading group which is open to all and provides an opportunity to read a variety of scripts.

1812 Youth Theatre

The 1812 Youth Theatre meets weekly in term time to take part in workshops, or rehearsals for productions, or to devise projects. Members are encouraged to develop their acting skills, to learn about the technical and ‘backstage’ aspects of theatre and to explore new ideas. Working to create good theatre takes a lot of discipline and commitment - to the production and to everyone else in it. It’s also a lot of fun. Working together like this does a lot to increase our members’ self-confidence and their ability to express themselves and to communicate.

JULIA BURNS

Ghosts and Shadows

Tue 5 Sep - Fri 3 Nov

“In Autumn 2022, frustrated by post-pandemic inertia and craving new stimulation for my work, I spent two months at “Cyprus College of Art”. Despite it‘s name, “Cyprus College of Art’’ has no known academic accreditation - but trust me when I say, it is no less impressive for that. Situated in the small village of Lempa, next to the ancient ruins of a Neolithic village (now a UNESCO site), on the hills just north of Paphos and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, real magic happens!

Founded in the 70’s by the artists Stass Paraskos and his British wife, Mary, this inexpensive and unique retreat was established for visual artists of all ages and genres from across the globe, who come in search of like- minded souls, shared ideas and creative inspiration. Living is simple, accommodation basic and the ever-changing company is as diverse and eclectic as it is stimulating and challenging.

The work in this exhibition includes many of my drawings and paintings carried out whilst there and some of the canvases completed on my return.”

Check our website for exhibition opening times. Closed Monday & Saturday.

“Making art for me is about happiness, I choose colours and subjects that make me smile, dreaming up characters I would love to meet whilst roaming our beautiful world”.

MÁIRE NÍ CHATHASAIGH & CHRIS NEWMAN’S CELTIC CHRISTMAS STRINGS - A FESTIVE FEAST OF HARP & GUITAR

There’s something magical about harps at any time, and particularly at Christmas, though Máire and Chris’s alchemy on harp and guitar creates a very special magic at all times. Their celebrated partnership, “one of the UK’s finest and most influential acoustic guitarists” (fROOTS) with “the doyenne of Irish harpers” (SCOTLAND ON SUNDAY) has presented its unique musical vision and “dazzling virtuosity” (THE DAILY TELEGRAPH) in twenty-two countries on five continents: in venues ranging from the tiniest of village halls to palaces in Kyoto and Istanbul, London’s Barbican, Sydney Town Hall and the Philharmonie in Cologne. Expect a breathtaking blend of traditional Irish music, hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque, spiced with striking new compositions. www.maireandchris.com

DYAD PRODUCTIONS

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

The award-winning Dyad Productions bring their magic to Dickens’ classic and perennially relevant ghost story. It’s Christmas Eve, and the miserly misanthrope, Ebeneezer Scrooge, is about to have a ghostly night he’ll never forget.Taking inspiration from Dickens’ original performances of his own work and utilising the brilliant narrator of the novel to bring the story to life, the piece is performed by Andrew Margerison (Frantic Assembly’s Fatherland, Macbeth), and directed by Rebecca Vaughan.
