Fear Five Six

Solo show, Stadtgalerie Bern, 2022

The title FEAR FIVE SIX is the stakeholder of the show on the level of language and words. It contains neither an unknown biographical message nor a code that you are excluded from. It’s more of a mnemonic where the thing to be remembered was forgotten. In the first room, the exhibition poster has been pasted to the wall. Next to it are the first stickers of the installation that is presented throughout the entire exhibition space. The series Dream and Screen comprises television screens wrapped in plastic, which I’ve used on other occasions for showing various video material. The spin-off for this exhibition is titled Regurgitated Memories and Ruminated Narratives. In the video, the camera circles around a virtual flip book sequencing through images of a cityscape. While scrolling through YouTube, I came across a video of an animated flipbook on a channel that creates daily flipbooks of the trendiest content as a way of generating views. These videos made a lasting impression on me and since I wasn’t able to get in touch with the original creator, I decided to venture a bit into this genre myself. We fed the shots I made last winter into an existing animation template. Pages of the flip book are automatically generated from the individual video frames.

The second room focuses on the new sticker-set series. ANGLES MORTS is an unnumbered edition of fifteen stickers each of car-mirror drawings printed on reflective foil. A set consists of the cut-out stickers and the leftover die-cut foil. Quoting a mirror that is firmly anchored to a moving vehicle is an opportunity for me to create a temporary layout in the exhibition space, thereby turning the space itself into a vehicle. In the last room, various older and newer works keep each other company: a street bench typical of the cityscape where I grew up; wire and plaster sculptures of pet beds and a trash can; a light switch made of gingerbread; a fictitious exhibition poster presented previously at Stadtgalerie. I began working nearly four years ago on the comic book top of my head at the dentist, which is also in the exhibition. The storyline was steadily developed and added to throughout the drawing process—a stream of consciousness comprising dreams, overheard jokes, and made-up stories. A slightly expanded, new edition of the comic book has been printed for the exhibition: objects have worked their way onto the strips here, as if the book were a facsimile for the new edition. For the exhibition I produced Vier föif sächs, a short radio play about a visit to the dentist. I spoke and recorded all the conversations and noises myself. For an ideal listening experience, I recommend using your personal headphones whenever possible.

Dream and screen

Wrapped tv screen are showing the documentation of a „geschwür“ transport by Jan Hofer. The two shows happen at the same time, with the same setup, but two different titles.

Tirggel 2021

Since 3 years i during the holidays i produce a own version of a tirggel. As an unnumbered edition i presented them on different occasions and places. The motives fo fare are images from an own comics, a portrait of the families dogs and a upscaled light switch of a gingerbread house.

to expound other doubts In collaboration with Andreas Selg 2021

For a show of Selg at gallery Bernhard, we worked together on a video installation. Inspired by a stairway in a scene in the movie „L‘Hypothèse du tableau volé“ we animated a shadow and presented this mock up as a projection on the wall.

flour, honey and sugar

Installation View, Müllerstrasse 8, 8004 Zurich

Installation and Video Work

One part powdered sugar, four parts honey, five parts flour, a mold of some kind, and a decent amount of heat is what you need to produce the in Zurich typical flat and brittle „Tirggel“ cookies. One of the local sweets specialty made on festive occasions. In this particular version - of the diverse and widely found custom of molding, forming, or imprinting baking goods - we see panels showing a blurry scene in the woods of an owl next to a small pond, with no clear storyline to follow. As the layout for a display window the two pieces become one of the encounters during the ride through the aftermath of the holiday season 2020. 06.01.2021, Kino Süd (www.kinosued.com)
