Bach’s vivid imagination and brilliant proportions are brought to life into the Well-Tempered Clavier, considered the “building block” pieces of keyboard technique, brilliantly realized by Heifetz Institute pianist Jingxuan Zhang.

Hour IV - 12:00 PM A Bach's Lunch!

Stonewall Flutes of the Shenandoah Mary Baldwin University Choir

Enjoy a tasty "Bach's Lunch" (oh-so-German fare of brats and sauerkraut, with veggie options as well) in the Fellowship Hall while serenaded by a lunchtime "snack pack" of Bach favorites from the Mary Baldwin University Choir, directed by Dr. David Tate, and the Stonewall Flutes of the Shenandoah, led by Pamela Mason.

The program will also be repeated upstairs in the sanctuary, so you won't miss a moment of the music - or a bite of the lunch! ($10 for the lunch, including drink and dessert).

Violinist Nigel Armstrong's performance of Bach's monumental Chaconne from the Violin Partita No. 2 sets up a fascinating journey - led by the Heifetz Institute's new Artistic Director Nicholas Kitchen - via projections of Bach's own manuscripts of the six solo Sonatas and Partitas for violin.

Hour IX - 5:00 PM The Goldberg Variations II Bruce Murray, piano

Bach’s sublime set of keyboard variations – what our guest artist terms “the most significant keyboard piece before Beethoven’s late sonatas,” will played in their original incarnation by the renowned pianist Bruce Murray of Miami University of Ohio, former Dean and Artistic Administrator at the Brevard Music Festival.

Murray has presented more than 1,000 concerts as a recitalist, chamber musician and soloist with orchestra – and he has played the “Goldberg” Variations on three continents.
