The first General Committee meeting occurred just a few days after the AGM and the meeting showed a constructive and collaborative approach to resolving a number of our problems. Since then all nine committees have been established and the monthly meetings are underway. The names of the committees and the members are on the club website. I have to say that I am feeling extremely optimistic about the coming year!

首先提醒大家，三月二十二號星期五晚，有一個非常值得大家出席的活動，就是 帆船之夜，這個活動現在與義工嘉許之夜、白沙灣遊艇會25年會員獎之夜和會員 迎新酒會結合為一。如果大家有興趣認識出色的船員、辛勤的義工、與我們共渡 了四分之一世紀的會員，並歡迎新會員的話，敬請萬勿錯過。 第一次執行委員會在AGM過後數天舉行，席間委員採納積極與協作的手法，解決 遊艇會的問題。會議過後，九個委員會全部順利成立，每月一次的會議也逐一展 開。大家可以在遊艇會的網址，看到委員會和相關會員的名字。就未來一年的工 作，我感到非常樂觀雀躍！ 在上一期的 Hebe Jebes 裏面，我提及一些會員在員工執行正常職責期間，作出欺 凌和騷擾的行為。我們現在公布一份簡短的行為守則，內容與遊艇會組織章程及 附例相符。該通告在本會刊第42頁登出，我相信針對極少數適用的遊艇會會員而 言，這份通告是一份適時的提醒。

In the last issue of Hebe Jebes I spoke of evidence of some members bullying and harassing the club staff in the normal course of their duties. We are publicising a short code of conduct, which is in line with Articles of Association and the club Bye-laws. You will see a copy of this notice in this issue on page 42 and I trust it will serve as a timely reminder to the very small number of members to which it may apply.

二十四小時慈善小艇賽過後，本會接獲兒童癌病基金會、Sailability、SKSFF、親 切、西貢社區中心、勵志協進會有限公司和Impact HK的感謝函。這些機構為年輕 人及長者提供卓越服務及支援。感謝函全文在本會刊第50頁登出。

Following the 24HR Charity Dinghy Race, the Club received very nice letters of appreciation from the Children’s Cancer Foundation, Sailability, SKSFF, TREATS, Sai Kung District Community Centre, IDEAL and Impact HK. These organisations do great work for young and senior people. These letters are published in full in this issue on page 50.

遊艇會的財政年度從4月1號開始，我們會制定每年預算，此預算獲得執行委員會 通過之後，為管理團隊和相關的委員會，提供方向指引及釐清工作範疇，並建立 審批必須現金開支的框架。執行委員會在使用會員資金時，必須非常審慎。為了 確保這一點，預算流程的背後，有相關的採購程序作為基礎。採購流程已列委員 會手冊，詳細說明執行委員會如何證明及批准個別開支。為了確保透明度，委員 會手冊已上載遊艇會網址，方便瀏覽。名譽司庫Rob Quinliven現正與管理層及各 委員會主席，商討制定截至2020年3月31號財年的預算案。為了更加深入了解遊 艇會的預算需要，Rob、Paul和執行委員會在一月份走遍遊艇會每個角落，確切了 解需要進行的工作和地點。

We also received a letter of appreciation from Sailability for the Club’s support of the SE Asian Para Sailing Championships and this is published on page 40.

The Club compiles an annual budget for each financial year starting on 1 April. The budget, when approved by the General Committee, gives direction and scope for both management and the relevant committees—providing a framework for approving essential cash expenditure. Spending members’ money is something the General Committee has to take great care with, so as to ensure this, the budget process is also backed up by the procurement processes set out in the Committee Handbook which specify how the General Committee justifies and approves individual expenditures. For transparency, the Committee Handbook can be viewed on the club website. The Honorary Treasurer, Rob Quinliven, is now working with the management and the committee chairs to formulate the budget for the financial year ending 31 March 2020. To gain a better understanding of the Club’s back-of-house budget needs Rob, Paul and the General Committee walked around the Club in January examining all of the Club’s nooks and crannies to help determine exactly what needs doing and where it needs doing.

A reminder to start: there is an event on Friday 22 March, which is well worth your time. It is the Annual Sailors Awards Night, which is now combined with the Volunteer Appreciation Night, the Recognition of 25 Year’s Membership Night and the New Members Cocktail Party. Please do come along if you want to meet outstanding sailors, hardworking volunteers, members who have been with us for a quarter of a century, and to welcome along new members. It will be a great night out!

大家在閱讀這篇文章時，農曆新年已經來臨，豬年新春舞獅表演也已順利完成。 舞獅表演向來十分精彩，吸引很多會員出席觀看。 最後，我們修訂了今年收取利是的形式，確保所有員工均分利是金額，尤其是經 常被忽略、但是對遊艇會非常重要的後勤職員。我謹代表所有員工，感謝遊艇會 全體會員慷慨解囊。 祝大家豬年萬事勝意！

By the time you read this, the Chinese New Year of the Pig will have started and the celebratory Lion Dance will have occurred. This is always a good event and is usually well attended.

Last but not the least, we have changed the way that Lai See is collected this year to ensure an even distribution among all staff—in particular for essential, but often overlooked, back-of-house staff members. On behalf of all staff I thank all of the members for their generous contributions in this regard.

In closing I wish you all a great Year of the Pig!

Thank you again to those who made our Burns Night another fun occasion, especially Stephen and Margaret Robertson, Andy Miller and Karina Slattery—for the organisation and speeches; Gareth Williams—for piping in the haggis and Joseph Shembri—for the dancing.

A great start to the year and big congratulations must go to the Hebe Dragons who achieved some great results in the ASAF Youth Sailing Cup in India in early January.

• Lumiere Ng finished 4th overall (3rd in boys' class) • Shana Okayama finished 16th overall (6th in girls' class) • Peter Jessop finished 20th overall • Alisha Okayama 48th overall There are a further two regattas until April of this year and the results of each event will be added together to obtain the overall ASAF Youth Cup Champion, so please join me in wishing the Dragons the best of luck!

The Club is fortunate to have two new J80 boats which are available for hire for racing or a cruising day on the water, with a total of four boats, we now have a great race fleet. Please contact the Sailing Office if you wish to hire one for the day.

Now that the weather is warming up we have plenty more fun on the water. Our two-week Adventure Water Sports events over Easter runs from 15 – 19 April and again from 22 – 26 April. We always receive lots of positive feedback from the children who enroll in these courses which are also open to non-members.

Following the success of our members day onboard Hebe One to visit the Tin Hau temple in 2018, we are organising another day on 22 April. This is a really fun day on the water and the roast pig is thoroughly enjoyable as part of the celebration.

Finally we have been asked by HK Marine Department to remind members that boaters in Hong Kong are required to paint or affix the allocated Certificate of Ownership Number on each side of their vessel, as close to amidships as possible, as it has come to the attention of the Hong Kong Marine Department that there are boats at the Club found without this number on their vessels. It is a requirement of Hong Kong law that boats kept permanently in Hong Kong should be registered and labelled clearly. Members are advised to check if this specific number is on their vessels, especially after the Typhoon Mangkhut damage of last year.

Argentina

It is a wine of dark violet color with reddish tones. On the nose it presents intense aromas of blackberry with notes of red and black currants, and plum. The mouth highlights notes of ripe plums with soft and elegant tannins. It has an excellent structure, long and persistent finish.

It is a wine of bright yellow with green shades.

On the nose it presents aromas of tropical fruits with citrus and floral notes. Concentrated notes of peach and green apple with a hint of mild spices are perceived in the mouth. The end is clean with a fresh acidity.

The aromas of freshly cut grass, meyer lemon, grapefruit, and lime zest with steely mineral notes. Flavors of lemongrass, citrus zest, guava, mango, and honeydew melon complement the nose. A bright, clean acidity makes it crisp and expressive.

The wine is deep, rich ruby in color with a medium body and soft, ripe tannins. It opens with aromas of ripe black cherries, blackberries, and cassis with hints of cigar box, black pepper, vanilla, toasty oak, and French roast coffee. Flavors of ripe bing cherries, blackberries, and plum with vanilla, toasty oak, and hints of coffee lead to a long finish

THAT WE ARE NOW A RECOGNISED RYA TRAINING CENTRE FOR POWERBOAT & JETSKI TRAINING COURSES!

Hebe Haven Yacht Club has become an official RYA Powerboat school! The Sail Training Centre is delighted to bring members these training courses with HHYC as a recognised RYA Training Centre for powerboat courses. We are grateful for KK Lo, Powerboat Committee Chairman for making the RYA Powerboat school come to life.

The RYA powerboat courses on offer will include Powerboat Course Level 2 and the PWC (Personal Watercraft) Training Course. The courses will be available from March 2019 onwards. The RYA Safety Boat Training will be coming soon so stay tuned for our announcements.

The Powerboat Level 2 is a two-day course which provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat, whilst the one-day PWC course, designed for first-time and experienced riders alike, will teach you how to get the best from it. Interested members must be a holder of PVOL Grade 2 and at least 18 years old.

白沙灣遊艇會已經正式成為RYA機動船學校！帆船訓練中心很高興向大家宣 佈，白沙灣遊艇會正式成為認可RYA機動船訓練中心，為會員提供相關培訓 課程。我們非常感激機動船委員會主席KK Lo，花了很多時間和心血，成就 RYA機動船學校的設立。 本遊艇會提供的RYA機動船課程，包括機動船課程第二級和水上電單車培 訓課程。相關課程將在2019年3月開始提供。RYA安全艇培訓也即將展開， 請大家密切留意我們有關的宣布。 為期兩天的機動船第二級課程，提供駕駛機動船的相關技巧和背景知識。而 為期一天的水上電單車課程，可以全面幫助提升技巧，適合初學者和已經有 相關經驗的人士。有興趣報名的會員，必須持有PVOL第二級和至少18歲。

ASAF YOUTH SAILING CUP ASAF青年盃

While most of you were on your Christmas break, four of our Hebe Dragon sailors sacrificed their holiday to represent the Club and Hong Kong in the first ASAF Youth Cup Series in Chennai India. Shana Okayama and Lumiere Ng were in Laser 4.7 class, while Alisha Okayama and Peter Jessop were in Optimist class. Not forgetting Harvey Jessop and Darren Hester (parents), who were a great help in looking after the kids.

Alisha downwind The ASAF Youth Sailing Cup is an event based on three Asian regattas for youth classes in India (Chennai), Hong Kong and UAE (Abu Dhabi). The aim of the ASAF Youth Sailing Cup is to provide the best possible competition for youth classes. The Series is based on established regattas within Asia, in order to guarantee the highest level of event and race management (ASAFSailing.org).

International teams

This year’s events brought together over 180 participants from 11 nations, competing in six different classes—Optimist, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Int 420, 29er and RS:One.

Chennai’s sea is known for its strong tidal currents and big swells which could be challenging for beginners or sailors not used to these conditions.

This year’s event brought a mix of conditions that put the sailors to the test.

Apart from the conditions, this event always brings together some of the best sailors in Asia, making it worthwhile attending as sailor’s benefit a lot. In addition, it is good for the youth to meet and make new friends. The sailors and myself were very happy and excited to be taking part in this event, it was also the first overseas event for Alisha and Shana.

After four days of racing with 12 races completed, the Optimist class was dominated by the Swedish sailors with the Indians chasing behind. Peter finished 21st overall and Alisha 48th respectively—a great achievement for this young sailor. Here are some of their best scores—Peter with two races finishing in top 10, three races in the top 15 and one in the top 20 and Alisha got 26.

Things were different in the Laser class. With the leading boats clear ahead it now left Lumiere and two other Indian sailors to jostle for 2nd place.

He was in 4th position after 12, with six points separating him and the sailor ahead. With only the medal race, he only had to finish 3rd to take the runner-up position, but unfortunately things didn’t go his way and he had to settle for 4th place overall (3rd in boys).

Shana finished 16th overall with two races finishing in top 10. I was very happy and pleased with this performance. She hasn’t been sailing a laser for long, so it was nice to see how she handled the challenging conditions for the first time.

正當大家歡度聖誕佳節的時候，四位 Hebe Dragon的船 員犧牲了自己的假期，代表遊艇會和香港出賽首屆在印 度金奈舉行的 ASAF 青年盃系列。他們分別是laser 4.7 級別的 Shana Okayama 和 Lumiere Ng、及 optimist 級 別的 Alisha Okayama 和 Peter Jessop。另外，我們要 感謝幫忙照顧小孩的兩位家長 Harvey Jessop 和 Darren Hester。

Laser 級別賽事戰況又有不同。排首名的健兒遙遙領 先，Lumiere 和兩名印度選手爭取亞軍位置。十二場賽 事過後，Lumiere 排名第四，與排名第三的選手只相差六 分。當時只剩下獎牌賽事，Lumiere若能以第三名完成， 整體賽果就可以排在頭三。可惜事與願違，最後整體排名 第四（男選手中排名第三）。 Shana整體成績排名十六，其中兩場排名頭十。她表現出 眾，令人欣慰。她參與Laser賽事時間不長，看到她第一 次應對充滿挑戰性的賽情，讓我印象深刻。

MONSOON WINTER SERIES 2018

A wonderful review of our Monsoon Winter Series 2018, which was held from 3 November to 15 December, as a part of Monsoon Series 2018 – 2019.

There were 29 boats in total that raced in this Series and finally the boat Talkinghead (HKG 1995) won the 1st overall in IRC Division while Windseeker (HKG 1198) took the crown in HKPN Division.

The final prize-giving was held at the Garden Bar after the races on 15 December 2018 with a festive Christmas party. More than 200 participants attended the party and enjoyed an amazing evening with our Sailing Community.

Thank you very much for all your support during 2018, in what has been a fun year of racing & sailing at HHYC on & off the water. We look forward to continuing the fun of sailing with you all in 2019!

MONSOON WINTER SERIES 冬季系列賽 2018 – 2019 Following the very successful inaugural Monsoon Series, HHYC and the Big Boat Committee of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) have again combined to bring you the Monsoon Series 2018 – 2019.

The Monsoon Winter Series 2018 and Monsoon Spring Series 2019 have been combined with the Monsoon Spring Cup 2019, to constitute the Monsoon Series.

The Monsoon Series will have additional prizes for results across these Port Shelter races, as well as prizes awarded for each of the three individual events.

New Year’s (NY) Day 2019 at Hebe Haven Yacht Club got off to a slow start as many had enjoyed the previous nights festivities with many a PIRATE of Port Shelter showing up for the Club's NY Eve dinner.

Those that didn’t attend the formal club banquet could be found on the green zone aboard Peter Hansen’s catamaran Lambada for the ‘alternate’ NY party at HHYC. On NY day we always head out to Hap Mun Beach for a BBQ and kids games. It is the one day of the year when all the active members come together for a day of fun, food and ‘hair of the dog’ drinks celebrations.

Due to the destruction of Hap Mun Beach by Typhoon Mangkhut it was decided to find an alternate location for this years NY day trip. After much deliberation and a couple of recon patrols by various staff and members, it was decided that Kiu Tsui Beach would be the venue for this year.

The venue needed to tick three boxes. It had to have a jetty for landing passengers ashore, it needed a beach and a nice area for everyone to get together and enjoy a BBQ and kids beach games, and finally we needed toilet facilities. Hap Mun Beach could only check one box, which was that it still had a functioning beach. Kiu Tsui Beach was the only venue within striking distance that could facilitate us this year.

Phil our F&B Manager did a fine job of setting up the BBQ and bar. A big thanks to Ah Kin, Ah Pong, Ah Sang, Andy, and Eugene who spent NY eve camping on the beach to guard the coolers and BBQs. So that is how it came to pass that this year we all ended up at Kiu Tsui Beach for what turned out to be another brilliant NY day.

We are always so lucky that NY day just seems to be one of those days that the sky clears, the sun comes out and despite it only being 13 degrees , Mark Ashton went for his annual NY day swim.

因為很多白沙灣遊艇會會員大除夕都出席了會所的活動（當晚還有很多牛尾海的「海盜」出現)， 2019年新年當天，遊艇會以緩慢的步伐迎接新的一年。部份沒有出席會所晚宴的會員，到了綠區 Peter Hansen的雙體船Lambada出席遊艇會「另類」新年派對。 新年伊始，我們通常會到廈門海灘燒烤和安排小孩遊戲活動。全年當中，只有這一天，所有活躍的 會員聚首一堂，歡度充滿樂趣、美食滿桌、暢飲解醉酒的時光。 可是因為颱風山竹破壞了廈門海灘，我們決定今年的新年活動要另覓地點進行。我們經過一番討 論，並派專員（會所員工和會員）視察環境，決定今年的活動，移師橋嘴海灘進行。我們挑選場地 時，必須考慮三大因素。首先，地點需要有碼頭，提供參加者上岸的地方。第二，有海灘和優美的 環境，讓會員有空間進行燒烤和小童遊戲活動。最後，場地必須提供廁所設施。廈門只滿足一項要 求，就是海灘依然健在。考慮到場地距離遊艇會不能太遠，今年只有橋嘴這個地點能夠容納我們。 會所的餐飲經理Phil在現場準備燒烤和酒吧設備，安排得非常妥當。特別鳴謝 Ah Kin、Ah Pong、 Ah Sang、Andy和Eugene，大除夕在海灘上露營，守衛冰箱和燒烤用具。 於是，今年大家就在橋嘴海灘渡過元旦，而且玩得非常盡興。我們運氣很好，每年元旦總是天朗氣 清。當日雖然只有13度，Mark Ashton 依舊無懼寒冷，下海暢泳。

Computer Recycling Day We had a great response to our first ever Computer Recycling Day. All items collected will go to the Caritas Computer Centre where all hard drives will be wiped and any working/repairable computers will be donated to people in need. Other items that cannot be fixed will be dismantled. These parts will either be reused or sent for proper disposal.

Thank you to everyone for your support.

If any of these items belong to you, please collect them as soon as possible. Any items that are unclaimed by 22 April 2019, will be removed (up-cycled/re-cycled where possible).

Sustainability Committee Plans This year we plan to hold another car boot sale plus a used marine equipment/boat-parts/clothing sale, Clean Pak Sha Wan Day & other smaller beach clean-ups. We will make all Hebe events free from single use plastic cups/plates/ cutlery. We are also looking into how we can replace plastic ice bags, as these are one of the most common things washed up onto our local beaches in summer.

HHYC has also provided a few quotas of sail training to youths selected by the Hong Kong Children and Youth Services. In addition to promoting sailing activities in the community, we also want to discover athletes with potential and qualifications.

A sharing session was held on 6 January 2019 to discuss the experience in 2018. We were delighted to know that many young people felt differently about life and their future after participating in the activities. Their sharing gave us strong encouragement. We hope to participate more in similar community-based charity events in the future and make further contributions to the society.

該活動於2019年1月6日舉行了2018年經驗分享會，當天我們很高 慶知道年青人參與活動後，對人生及前途改觀。他們分享的感受為 我們帶來很大的鼓勵，希望未來可以參與更多這類特別的社區慈善 活動，為社會作出貢獻。

The Renatus Project offers community-based activities for young people to gather experience in working in different industries. Youngsters who feel a bit lost about their future, through the Project, come to understand that there are many possible career paths other than academic ones.

Since its inception in 2016, the Project is entering its third year and has provided opportunities to more than 100 youths.

The 2018 activities were co-organised by the Hong Kong Police Department (Sha Tin District), Hong Kong Children and Youth Services (a diversified social service organisation), and the Lamborghini Club of Hong Kong. HHYC also participated in some sessions to provide industry experience to youngsters. In addition to making contributions to the society, HHYC also successfully recruited some suitable youths from the activities. These youngsters have already started working at the Club, injecting new energy to the place and resolving some of the staff shortage and turnover issues. The Renatus Project has received wide coverage by the media, including Commercial Radio 881, HK01 and Automobile Magazine Hong Kong.

Who’s in the team?

We’ve been lucky enough to get help from the following committee members who bring a combination of engineering, government, legal and project management experience to the mix. The team comprises of Edward Lo, Herman Ng, Inge Strompf-Jepsen, Joseph Lau, Peter Weiley, Sonny Payne and myself.

Matthew Bromley and Lisa Keatley also attend the meetings to help input on the practicalities where club staff may be involved and to help ensure essential works are rolled out in a safe and sensible way with minimal impact to Members.

So what’s happening?

Continuing the great work initiated by the former CDC, there is a significant list of projects that we have picked up or are starting work on, which I have bulletpointed below.

Buildy stuff • Rebuilding the sea wall—in the area where the forklift drops the boats into the water, the slipway and the areas to the east and west of the slipway. This process will begin with Ground Investigation (GI) work to determine the exact nature of what lies beneath and thus to work out exactly what degree of engineering is required to get the sea wall and adjacent ground safe and fit for purpose. AECOM is managing this process and preparing the tenders and will be making their recommendation to GenCom of the best contractor(s) for carrying out these works.

• Marina repairs & pile extensions—ensuring pontoons are repaired after the damage caused in the last typhoon and that piles are of sufficient height to stop them from being overtopped as tides and sea surges continue to rise.

• Disabled lift—we will endeavour to get a disabled lift installed, most probably near the disabled toilet to provide proper disabled access to the first-floor bar and restaurant. This will also serve a dual purpose in helping staff with the daily trudge of schlepping F&B supplies from ground-floor deliveries and storage to the firstfloor kitchen.

• Project office—we are initiating the design and construction of a project office to provide the additional office space for contractors and consultants needed during this time.

Government stuff • Home Affairs Bureau (HAB)—continued liaison to help obtain an ‘expression of support’ for the overall aims of the Club in developing and continuing to work with members and the local communality to promote sailing and boating in Hong Kong. This allows the Government to better understand how various projects we undertake are aligned with this mission when we take them to the Lands Department in the future.

Existing stuff • Boat racks—Knight Frank is in the process of government liaison concerning the existing boat racks and working out the best way forward with regard to lease modifications to ensure compliance with the various government regulations.

• Office & garden bar—we are looking at further enhancing fire safety in these busy areas of the Club. This will involve a ground and utility survey (effectively X-ray vision so we know what exactly we have below the car park) and then we can figure out where a large water storage tank could be located to help feed a sprinkler system.

• Boatyard cleanup—in this issue of Hebe Jebes on page 46, on the Club notice board, and on the Club website we have highlighted a variety of ‘items’ which are currently taking up precious space in the boatyard. Many of these ‘items’ are also an eyesore and/or potentially dangerous/mosquito magnets etc.—so

please check and see if any of these items are yours. If you see anything that’s yours— please claim it and remove it from the club premises immediately. All items that remain after 22 April 2019 will be removed for upcycling and/or waste disposal. Carol Bidell, Chair, Sustainability will be helping to ensure we recycle as many materials as possible, to reduce the amount sent to landfill.

The newly renamed Planning and Works Committee—formerly Club Development Committee (CDC)—met for the first time on 24 January. The reason for the name change is to better reflect the priorities of the Committee and nature of the works to be undertaken. The Committee oversees the essential works that are being carried out club-wide, as outlined below, as well as looking at what needs to be done in the mid to long-term to properly service the needs of our members and staff and prioritising what is achievable within available budgets.

For sure, there will be plenty more things to do in the future, but I think this list will be keeping us busy well into the next term. I’d ask for your patience as we work through these items. There are often several hoops to jump through and due diligence required to ensure things are done properly, but we will get there…

On the HHYC Keelboat Racing front, the Committee has spent time to improve the sailing instructions around the finish of Race 2 of the Kowloon Cup—the Pursuit Race—and has prepared the Notice of Race for the Monsoon Spring Series, which starts on Saturday, 23 February 2019.

Rear Commodore—Sailing

On the water, the Boxing Day Rally was enjoyed by the few hardy souls that made the effort. This was in contrast to the New Year’s Day Rally which was attended by over 150 people, on a beautiful sunny day. The Kowloon Cup in mid-January turned out to be two very successful days of racing. Thanks to the skillful decision-making of the race officers Mark Newman and David (Cabbage) Rule and their race management teams, in dealing with the tricky wind conditions, both races were successfully completed. In respect of the aforementioned Pursuit Race, 17 boats started the race (with almost two hours between the start times of the first boat at 10.00 am and the last boat at 11.52 am) and nine boats were on the same lap as the winner when the RO indicated the finish. Such a high number of boats in close proximity at the finish thoroughly vindicates the HKPN ratings; the starting sequence; and the choice of course—which is a very difficult balance. The après-sail lunch at Yau Ley Restaurant and sponsored Carlsberg beer was enjoyed by all.

Congratulations to Bob Vart and his crew on X-terminator who convincingly won both Races.

首先祝全體白沙灣遊艇會會員2019年新年快樂，豬年萬事如意，恭喜發財！ 在寫這篇文章的時候，我已經出席了AGM之後三天內倉促安排的執行委員會 會議、香港帆船運動總會委員會會議、兩次賽事委員會會議、和一次跟其他 帆船會所舉辦的聯席會議，安排2020年的活動，忙碌得好像全職工作一樣！ 執行委員會會議令人「眼界大開」，原來遊艇會有許多需要緊急處理的事 項。幸好委員會成員眾志成城，定必不遺餘力，積極解決。

To kick matters off, it is my pleasure to wish all HHYC Members and families a Happy New Year for 2019 and Kung Hei Fat Choy for a prosperous year of the Pig. At the time of writing this piece, I have attended one General Committee Meeting—which was hastily arranged just three days after the AGM—and one HKSF Council Meeting, together with two Sailing Committee Meetings and a joint meeting with other sailing clubs to coordinate the calendars for 2020.

It is almost a full-time job! The General Committee Meeting was a real ‘eyeopener’ in terms of matters that need to be addressed urgently, but it appears that there is a good team in place to address these matters constructively.

白沙灣遊艇會龍骨船賽事方面，委員會在九龍盃第二場賽事 Pursuit Race 中，著力改善航海指導，並已準備賽事通知書，參加2019年2月23日星期六 開始的春季系列賽。 水上活動方面，節禮日比賽有幾位壯士參與，而有超過150人出席的元旦 賽事則在風和日麗的天氣下完成。一月中的九龍盃分兩天進行，感謝Race Officer Mark Newman 和 David (Cabbage) Rule及賽事管理團隊的英明決 策，在棘手風勢中，成功完成賽事。上文提及的 Pursuit Race，啟航時共有 十七艘船參與（第一艘船啟航時間是1000，最後一艘船是1152，中間差距幾 乎兩個小時），RO表示賽事完成一刻，有九隻船跟冠軍同在最後一圈，賽情 異常緊湊，完全平反了HKPN組別、啟航次序和航道的選擇，而要在三者中 取得平衡，談何容易。賽事過後，大家到有利餐廳午餐，享用贊助人請客的 嘉士伯啤酒。恭喜 X-terminator 的 Bob Vart 和船員，勝出兩場賽事，真是 實至名歸。 展望未來，2019年3月份將會有頒獎典禮，頒發小艇和龍骨船獎項。後者有 兩個獎項，分別是按規定條件選出的「年度龍骨船」，和「年度船員」。上 一次賽事委員會席間，委員同意為紀念離開了我們的Toby，把「年度船員」 重新命名為「Jenkin-Jones盃」。Toby的伴侶Kay也同意把獎項命名為俗氣 一點的「Toby Jug」。委員會下一項工作，是要決定如何挑選Toby Jug的得 獎者。大家請密切留意，到時候提名心水人選。頒獎典禮日期，容後公佈。 海上見吧！

Looking further forward, there will be an awards ceremony in March 2019 at which both dinghy and keelboat awards will be presented. Two keelboat awards are up for grabs—the ’Boat of the Year’ (which is derived through a prescribed calculation) and the ‘Sailor of the Year’. At the last Sailing Committee, the members endorsed the naming of the Sailor of the Year trophy as the 'Jenkin-Jones Cup', in memory of our dear departed friend Toby. Toby’s partner, Kay, has also agreed to the use of the more irreverent 'Toby Jug'. The next task of the Sailing Committee is to devise a way to determine the 2018 recipient of the Toby Jug—watch out for a chance to nominate candidates for consideration, and watch this space for the date of the Awards Night.

On 19 January 2019, the Commodore led the committee members to inspect the facilities in different departments. The exercise facilitated the formulation of next year’s budget by understanding the potential expenses connected to repair, maintenance and facility acquisition. During the inspection, committee members identified many abandoned vessels and objects. These items not only affect the appearance of the premises, but also create breeding grounds for mosquitoes and insects, affecting our environmental hygiene. We urge everyone to address this problem and assist in disposing of such unwanted objects. If the objects are your personal belongings, please dispose of them properly, so that all members can enjoy a comfortable environment.
