AN INTRODUCTION PLAYER SPONSORS

BY DAVID COULTHARD

Today's visitors, Carlton Town, were established in 1904 as Sneinton FC. They played in the Nottinghamshire Football Alliance, winning three league titles within six years of their formation. That was the extent of their silverware until winning the third tier in 1985 and the second tier in 1993, by which time they’d moved to their current home, now known as the Bill Stokeld Stadium. They went on to gain promotion to the Central Midlands Football League in 1995.

In 1998, Sneinton were promoted from the CML Premier Division to the Supreme Division, and in 2001 were denied promotion to the Northern Counties East League due to ground grading requirements.

The following year they changed their name to their current guise and won the CML title.

The Millers achieved further elevation in 2006 when they reached the Premier Division, and they made it back-to-back promotions as they made it to step four for the first time in their history. Carlton won the Notts Senior Cup in 2013, 2014, 2017, and a win against Mansfield Town U23s in 2022 brought their most recent triumph. They’ve remained at step four for the last 16 years, with a couple of league reorganisations along the way, including their move to the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division this season.
