This club will introduce you to sculpture, which is explored in more depth at Key Stage 4. You will also use paint to colour your monster sculptures and will therefore continue to develop your colour mixing and blending skills.

Who is the club aimed at?

All KS3 students

What will I do in the club?

You will design a monster on paper, then use a drinks bottle and modroc to bring your design to life before painting it.

Additional information

You can bring your lunch to the art room and eat it there. You must make sure you put on an apron. Please remember it is first come first serve as there are limited spaces.

This club will give you an introduction to Photography and the type digital editing techniques in Photoshop that you may experience at GCSE. You will learn compositional techniques to improve the quality of your photography and if you have a camera, we can show you how to make the most of various modes and settings. Who is the club aimed at?

All KS3 students

What will I do in the club?

Complete a range of landscape, portrait and montage shoots that you will edit using Photoshop.

Additional information

You can use your phone or iPad to take photos on, but if you have a camera, great, bring it along! If you are using your phone or iPad, it is useful to have Google Photos saved on the device. You are welcome to bring your lunch. Please remember it is first come first serve as there are limited spaces.

If you like being creative, making things and working in a team this is for you! We design and make sculptures from withy willow and paper; from small scale individual pieces to big group makes. We take these to different carnivals and festivals and participate in parades like the Brighton Festival Children's Parade and Heffle Cuckoo Fair.

Who is the club aimed at?

All year groups, students who enjoy art and making things.

What will I do in the club?

Design and make withy sculptures and lanterns to take to parades like Brighton Children's Parade or Mayfield Bonfire Night Procession

Heathfield TV is the College based TV station. It was established in 2017 and produces pre-recorded materials for the College at key events. The TV station is run and managed by Sixth Form students and involves members across the College community.

Who is the club aimed at?

Anyone interested in being part of producing material for a TV station.

What will I do in the club?

Film, produce, edit, present. There are opportunities for all to be involved in the different aspects that go into creating information and engaging TV shows.

In the Year 7 Drama club you will have a lot of creative and imaginative fun through Drama games, improvisation and script work. You will develop your ability to work with others, your knowledge of drama techniques and your confidence will inevitably grow as you will have regular opportunities to perform your work to an audience. What will I do in the club?

Play games, drama related activities and performances.

Yoga helps to calm the mind and body through mindful breathing and a series of fluid movements. After attending this club you should feel more relaxed, more flexible and stronger in your mind and body and more able to live in the present moment.

Who is the club aimed at?

Year 10 and 11 students, no previous experience necessary.

What will I do in the club?

Meditation, yoga movement/positions with breath.

Additional information

Eat your lunch at break and drink water before and after. Wear loose comfortable clothes that you can move in easily.

The Duke of Edinburgh awards: A life-changing experience. A fun time with friends. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement; respected by employers. There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity. Who is the club aimed at?

Students in Year 9, 10 and 12 with a love of the outdoors and adventure.

What will I do in the club?

Develop expedition skills including map reading, first aid, route planning, camp craft and team skill. Be supported with the independent activities and evidence platform.

The award is launched annually in the autumn term.

What will I do in the club?

You will be using hand tools and machinery to create your own Inset Bug House. You will laser cut your own image and use this on the front.

Perhaps you would like to read Dracula, Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, War of the Worlds, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Treasure Island, or Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland? There are many intriguing, entertaining and challenging novels you can choose to read at this weekly book club. Who is the club aimed at?

Any student who loves to read or wants to read more (years 7-11).

What will I do in the club?

Discussion, independent reading, sharing recommendations.

Novels can be taken out on loan.

The Heathfield Vine is our brilliant online newspaper. Five times a year we publish a diverse range of articles by students across the school, showcasing our best writing and journalistic talent. The Vine has twice been highly commended at the Shine National School Media Awards and our editors have gone on to highly prestigious universities and careers in the media. Shine judges were particularly impressed that students from every single year group contribute articles. Who is the club aimed at?

What will I do in the club?

This is a club for anyone with an interest in or a passion for language and culture. We will explore the customs and traditions of France and Spain as well as look at some of the typical regional dishes and celebrations these countries have to offer. Who is the club aimed at?

The club is aimed at anyone from Year 7-Year 13 who want to find out more about European culture, language and traditions.

What will I do in the club?

Students will be creative, have the opportunity to discuss new topics beyond the curriculum and work with different people from outside their usual circle of friends.

Dr Simon Singh, author of the No. 1 bestseller Fermat’s Last Theorem and The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets has created a set of weekly maths challenges. These are interesting, fun and challenging material that goes beyond school maths: mystery and history, activities and oddities, puzzles and problems. Who is the club aimed at?

Any student who enjoys solving puzzles.

What will I do in the club?

Work independently or collaboratively on solving a mixture of puzzles and problems.

The UK Mathematics Trust was founded in 1996 and its charitable aim is to advance the education of young people in mathematics. They do this by working with hundreds of volunteers across the UK to organise competitions promoting problem solving and team work and other mathematical enrichment activities. Here at HCC we pride ourselves on entering lots of our students in to their competitions.

Students who will be entered in for the competitions.

What will I do in the club?

Work independently or collaboratively on solving a mixture of puzzles and problems in preparation for the competitions.

Joining a music ensemble such as an Orchestra is a great way to meet likeminded people who also enjoy playing music. It is a great way to improve your playing as well as building social, teamwork and cognitive skills. We play a wide range of music including arrangements of popular music as well as looking at repertoire ranging from Classical to Jazz and everything in between. Who is the club aimed at?

You will need to play an instrument, but we can always find/adapt music based on what you play. All abilities are welcome to join.

You will learn a wide range of music as well as working on your ensemble performing skills.

Strength and conditioning is a great way to transform your body and get huge results, whether you’re an athlete or amateur, expert, or just starting out. It encompasses so much more than just lifting weights and focuses on a variety of tools to improve movement, health, and physical performance. Students will be attending the Strength and Conditioning club developing their movement patterns and seeking to be aware of how to lift weights responsibly and improve their strength and conditioning. The Debating Society is aimed at everyone interested in the world around them and the contemporary debates surrounding our society and our politics. As well as engaging with contemporary issues it will also help you improve your confidence in speaking and listening. The Debating Society fits closely to the study of Politics, History, English and Sociology. Who is the club aimed at?

The Society is open to students from year 9 to year 13.

What will I do in the club?

Students will prepare and engage in debates surrounding contemporary issues.

Philosophy Film Club to is an opportunity to use films to explore some of life's big questions, think creatively and challenge your ideas about your own morals, ethics, the world, existence and everything. Who is the club aimed at?

Any student with an interest in discussing the ethical, moral and philosophical issues found within films. All year groups welcome but numbers are limited!

What will I do in the club?

Whilst watching a film, students will discuss the ethical/religious/philosophical issues as they arise. Students will develop their ability to discuss along with building their awareness of what philosophy is and the complexities of ethical situations that occur within the films.

Additional information

Screenings take place in Hut on Monday lunchtimes. Bring your lunch. Films include Toy Story 3, Life of Pi, the Adjustment Bureau, Free Guy and many more!

Axolotl have a unique set of adaptions that aren’t seen in many other organisms. These adaptations feature in our scheme of learning, for example, external gills for efficient gas exchange and the ability to regrow entire limbs due to stem cells. Who is the club aimed at?

Years 7 to 9 students with an interest in animal care.

What will I do in the club?

Students will care for the axolotls which includes siphoning waste off the bottom of the tank, cleaning algae from the glass, treating the water to make it safe, provide treats such as bloodworm and ensuring the feeder is well stocked.

Numbers are limited and attendance is on a carousel.

This club is a safe, calm space to sit and relax, journal, doodle and switch off. There will also be opportunities to develop your selfesteem, confidence and learn a variety of ways to help support your mental health and wellbeing. Who is the club aimed at?

All KS4 students.

What will I do in the club?

You be journaling, doodling, chatting and most importantly, relaxing!

Additional information

You can bring your lunch to the Drama Studio and eat it there. If you could bring a notebook of your own, that would be great!
