Art Open Session

This club will introduce you to drawing, which is explored in more depth at Key Stage 4. You will also use paint to colour your monster sculptures and will therefore continue to develop your colour mixing and blending skills.

All students

Additional information

You can work in your sketchbook adding to classwork OR you can draw objects in the art room OR work from your imagination. You can make your own mini book to draw in at the club. You can use any of the art materials in the room.

You can bring your lunch to the art room. You must make sure you put on an apron if using paint or ink. Please remember it is first come first serve as there are limited spaces.

Carnival Club

If you like being creative, making things and working in a team this is for you! We design and make sculptures from withy willow and paper; from small scale individual pieces to big group makes. We take these to different carnivals and festivals and participate in parades like the Brighton Festival Children's Parade and Heffle Cuckoo Fair.

What will I do in the club?

All year groups, students who enjoy art and making things.

Design and make withy sculptures and lanterns to take to parades like Brighton Children's Parade or Mayfield Bonfire Night Procession

KS4 Coding Club

This club is a chance for Year 9 and 10 students to write their own programs and develop their coding skills.

Who is the club aimed at?

What will I do in the club?

Year 9 and 10 students doing GCSE Computer Science.

Students will have the opportunity to use the school computers to write their own code.

Additional information

You will be using Python and Pygame.

COMPUTING DEPARTMENT

Heathfield TV

Heathfield TV is the College based TV station. It was established in 2017 and produces short film content which is broadcast via its own YouTube channel. The TV station is run and managed by Sixth Form students and involves members across the College community.

Anyone interested in being part of producing material for a TV station.

Film, produce, edit, present. There are opportunities for all to be involved in the different aspects that go into creating information and engaging TV shows.

The TV station is run and managed by Sixth Form students and is a great way to highlight key events and ideas. If you would like to be involved from a technical point of view or have creative ideas for content, then we would like your input.

CREATIVE MEDIA DEPARTMENT

Heathfield Radio

Radio Heathfield is the College based radio station. We broadcast across the college at break times and lunch times every day.

What will I do in the club?

Anyone interested in being part of producing material for a Radio station.

Produce content for your radio broadcast including scripts, music playlists and jingles.

Additional information

Radio Heathfield is open to all year groups. You don’t need to have any experience: older students will be on hand to help you with anything you need to learn.

CREATIVE MEDIA DEPARTMENT

KS3 Drama Club

In the Year 7 Drama club you will have a lot of creative and imaginative fun through Drama games, improvisation, physical theatre, performance and script work. You will develop your ability to work with others, your knowledge of drama techniques and your confidence will inevitably grow as you will have regular opportunities to perform your work to an audience.

Year 7 and Year 8 students with an interest in Drama.

Play games, drama related activities and performances.

You are welcome to bring a drink and a snack.

KS4 & KS5 Yoga Club

Yoga helps to calm the mind and body through mindful breathing and a series of fluid movements. After attending this club you should feel more relaxed, more flexible and stronger in your mind and body and more able to live in the present moment.

Year 10 - 13 students, no previous experience necessary.

Meditation, yoga movement/positions with breath.

Additional information

Eat your lunch at break and drink water before and after. Wear loose comfortable clothes that you can move in easily.

DRAMA DEPARTMENT

The Duke of Edinburgh awards: A life-changing experience. A fun time with friends. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement; respected by employers. There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity.

8 Duke of Edinburgh DofE Club

Students in Year 9, 10 and 12 with a love of the outdoors and adventure.

Develop expedition skills including map reading, first aid, route planning, camp craft and team skill. Be supported with the independent activities and evidence platform.

The award is launched annually in the autumn term.

Dungeons & Dragons Club

The world’s greatest role-playing game, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) allows you to embark on a fantastical quest through storytelling.

Perhaps you’ve never heard of it before. Perhaps you’re an expert. Or maybe you’ve heard about it on Stranger Things and want to learn more. Either way, come along and have a go!

You will create your own character to play in a pre-written campaign (story). Roll the dice and see what your character will do!

Heathfield Vine

The Heathfield Vine is our brilliant online newspaper. Five times a year we publish a diverse range of articles by students across the school, showcasing our best writing and journalistic talent. The Vine has twice been highly commended at the Shine National School Media Awards and our editors have gone on to highly prestigious universities and careers in the media. Shine judges were particularly impressed that students from every single year group contribute articles.

Warhammer Club

The Warhammer club is a club where you will build and paint miniatures from Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. There will also be opportunities to play the actual board game as well as painting.

PLEASE NOTE: The paints, glues and cutters will not be supplied you are to bring your own, however, the playing boards will be supplied as well as painting stands.

This club will give students interested in baking or in improving their baking skills, the opportunity to try out different cookie recipes

Additional information All ingredients must be bought in by students - no ingredients are supplied by the school. Maximum of 12 students in the club.

Students are given the opportunity to practise French speaking skills with each other.

Samba Drumming is a type of music from Brazil. You will learn to play a range of traditional instruments. This will eventually lead to you playing the drums at different parades alongside the Carnival Club.

School Band

Joining a music ensemble is a great way to meet likeminded people who also enjoy playing music. It is a great way to improve your playing as well as building social, teamwork and cognitive skills. We play a wide range of music including arrangements of popular music as well as looking at repertoire ranging from Classical to Jazz and everything in between.

You will need to play an instrument, but we can always find/adapt music based on what you play. All abilities are welcome to join.

Dance teaches us about movement, music, rhythm and beat. It is a great for physical wellbeing as well as mental wellbeing. In this club you will do a variety of dances and will hopefully lead to a performance at a theatre.

The tennis club is open to anyone from all years on the MUGA, and looks to give students the opportunity to build up skills in singles and doubles gameplay before playing competitively against other people.

Debating Society

The Debating Society is aimed at everyone interested in the world around them and the contemporary debates surrounding our society and our politics. As well as engaging with contemporary issues it will also help you improve your confidence in speaking and listening. The Debating Society fits closely to the study of Politics, History, English and Sociology.

The Society is open to students from year 9 to year 13.

What will I do in the club?

Students will prepare and engage in debates surrounding contemporary issues.

You can eat your lunch at the Society if you wish to.

Pride Club

A drop in lunchtime club that supports our LGBTU community and their allies and helps to drive the College's inclusive ethos.

Additional information

LGBT+ community and allies in all year groups.

Eat lunch, post anonymous questions for the group to discuss, review and make resources for Pride, LGBTU month and the Rainbow Flag Award.

STEM Club

This club is an after-school club aimed at students that have a passion for all things science. They will be taking part in a number of fun investigations, experiments and dissections to help them learn about science.

Who is the club aimed at?

What will I do in the club?

All students in Year 7 and Year 8.

Each week you will take part in a different experiment, investigation or dissection.

Additional information

The STEM club will take place afterschool and there will be an opportunity to take part in gaining a CREST award as well. If someone wishes to join regularly, but wants to opt out of dissections, then they can do so.
