Groups book in for the Aussie Day Expo
OCAL SOMAR XAViER, is bringing a new initiative to Maleny. “We know that plastic bags are harmful to our ecosystems and linger for generations in landfill, so we have created a solution The Paper Bag Project, which recycles newspaper into carry bags and reduces waste. “Better still, the production of these handmade bags provides a source of income for rural villagers in india and the proceeds of their sale feeds, shelters and educates 53 homeless children.� This work is undertaken by a charitable organisation north of Delhi, india, with the bags predominantly made locally by rural village women, who are in charge of the quantity they produce. “This decentralised production supports village and family life,� explains Somar. The Paper Bag Project also aims to offer community support, and raise awareness and funds for those with mental health issues, and their carers, in our society. “We are a registered, not-for-profit organisation with charity status. EMEMBER HOW A zipline was sought for Kondalilla? Well, now we have one planned for the coast. Australia’s largest high ropes course and zipline course would be designed to fit the natural topography of the Big Pineapple site. TreeTop Challenge General Manager, David Taylor, said, “you could walk 20 metres past this low impact activity and not even realise it’s there.� Mr Taylor said the unique activity, suitable for people of all ages, could cater up to 200 visitors at a time and will offer around 120 different challenges within the trees. “The course is as good as the environment, and the section of forest at the Big Pineapple where we are planning to locate is among some of the most suited to our style of adventure on the Coast. People may remember some of this forest when touring on the nutmobile, years ago.� if approved, Mr Taylor said he would spend between six and eight months on the Sunshine Coast building the course with a team of six construction experts.
