Former student helps Wigan Warriors win World Club Challenge 2024

Former sport student, Tyler Dupree, helped lead Wigan Warriors to victory against Penrith Panthers in the World Club Challenge 2024.
Tyler was subbed on in the 18th minute of the game by Wigan Warrior’s Head Coach, Matt Peet, with the forward playing a key role in securing the team’s win over Penrith Panthers at the DW stadium in February.
Tyler said about the experience: “Playing in the World Club Challenge was unreal and is the highlight of my career so far. It was fantastic to also be a part of such an historic event for Wigan, as this marks the club’s fifth World Club Challenge win – which is the joint top number of trophies with Sydney Roosters. I’m incredibly excited for what’s to come next in my professional rugby career and the knowledge that I learned throughout my degree regarding recovery, nutrition and performance is ensuring I can be the best player I can be.”
In 2023, Tyler was also selected by England Rugby League’s Head Coach, Shaun Wane, to represent England in the International Rugby League 2023. He appeared in the squad for the end-of-season series against Tonga, featuring in the third and final test match at Headingley Stadium.
He started his professional rugby career on a six-year scholarship with Salford Red Devils in 2016 and has also played for the likes of Leeds
Tyler completed a Foundation Degree in Applied Sports Performance at the University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, which helped him develop the skills to refine his performance in professional rugby.
Tyler has showed incredible talent since the start of his professional rugby career, but what has made him such a successful player is that he backs this up with theoretical knowledge which enables him to constantly improve his performance. These are the tools we aim to give our students when studying our sports degree, ensuring that either they or the people they are coaching can achieve their full sporting potential.”

Sport
I chose this course because it goes handin-hand with the Professional Golfers’ Association course and I’d like to become a professional golfer and play in the Masters Tournament one day. My favourite part of the course is learning about the functional anatomy of the human body as you learn what muscles are responsible for which movements, which has helped me understand my golfing training.

I’ve had the chance to visit universities and consider my next steps after this course. At the moment, I have a job with the head professional golfer at my local golf club, Low Laithes.
Public Services

The enthusiasm of the tutors set it apart from being in school and I liked being in a more independent environment. I also thoroughly enjoyed the excursions and practical elements of my course. I got to carry out a study placement in Sweden, which looked very impressive on my CV.
Throughout the course my self-confidence grew, and this confidence has enabled me to progress throughout my career in the railway industry.
My job now is a Fraud Investigator for the Train Operating Company I work for. Additionally, I have completed Advocacy Training and carry out private prosecutions in Doncaster Magistrates Court, as part of my job.

Students take part in mock chemical attack simulation
Public Services students from Wakefield College engaged in a realistic chemical attack simulation at Xscape Yorkshire. The event, a collaborative training scenario with multiple agencies, offered students a chance to apply their learning in a practical setting.
Students convincingly portrayed victims in the simulated chemical attack, aiding in the training
of emergency services. This practical experience was invaluable for students and professionals alike, emphasising the importance of hands-on training in emergency preparedness.
The simulation also showcased the diverse and relevant educational offerings at Wakefield College, where students are encouraged to engage in real-world scenarios. The successful
