Greetings from Selby College’s Hair & Beauty Department!
I am thrilled to welcome you to read our departmental newsletter, an exciting new publication designed to keep you informed and engaged with the latest happenings, developments, and opportunities in our amazing department. As the head of the department, I am continually inspired by the passion and innovation that our students and staff bring to the world of hair and beauty. This newsletter is our way of sharing that inspiration with you.
In this edition, you can expect to find a wealth of information. We’ll bring you the latest news from our department, keeping you up-to-date with current trends, industry advancements and departmental achievements.

Sarah, Sam & Freya from Rudding Park Spa in Harrogate came along to give our Level 3 Beauty Therapy students at Selby College an inspirational careers talk on the beauty industry and the opportunities they could aspire to.
Our VRQ level 2 Women’s Hairdressing students at Selby College took part in the Christmas “create an image” competition. Some fabulous work, I’m sure you’ll agree!

Did you know our professional salon, Aspire, provides hair and beauty services to paying members of the public?
Customers are invited to choose treatments from our extensive range of relaxing beauty therapy treatments, and stylish hairdressing. All treatments are delivered in a professional salon environment with the range of treatments performed by training therapists and stylists under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Beauty I heard lots of good things about Selby College and liked the campus, so I decided to study here.
My course has taught me a range of skills, including cutting, customer service and teamwork, which will also be helpful for any future roles that I have as a hairdresser and will help me pursue my dream of becoming a salon owner.
Where are they now?
Last year, we achieved a 99.6% pass rate across all our Hair & Beauty programmes.
Here are just a few of our Student Successes:
• Following her studies at Selby College, Lyndsey Boldan now owns a salon in Rawcliffe.
• Former student Natalie Hunter has opened up her very own hair salon in Selby, called Hunters Hair Salon.
• Robert Nix has also gone on to open up Salonix, a Hair and Beauty salon in Selby.
• Billy Earl fulfilled his ambition of owning his own salon, following his studies at Selby College. Billy now runs his own salon - Clarke & Me.
• Former beauty students Hannah Burkhill and Lucy Bannister now own Blossom Down Finkle St.
• Amy Asquith, Selby College beauty student, now works at Ragdale hall.

Our most recent Hair & Beauty Student of the Month is: Tammi, Level 2 Beauty Therapy student at Selby College, for showing a positive attitude to learning as well as great attendance & punctuality, nominated by her tutor Wendy. Congratulations Tammi, well done!
