National Ag Day The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) has announced that March 15, 2016 will be the date of the 43rd annual National Ag Day celebration. The theme for National Ag Day 2016 is “Agriculture: Stewards of a Healthy Planet.” The National Ag Day program encourages every American to: ▪ Understand how food and fiber products are produced. ▪ Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant, and affordable products. ▪ Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy. ▪ Acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food, and fiber industry. Each year the ACA hosts an essay and poster art contest in conjunction with the celebration. The 2016 poster art contest winner is Emily Eibs from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. INDUSTRY NEWS Precision Manufacturing Introduces Tele Precision Ag Resource Clipper Tree Shear Announces New Simple Simon The TeleClipper is a new innovation from Precision Manufacturing, makers of the Hy- Soil Sampler Reach Tree Shear since 1992. Now you will be able to trim limbs higher than ever before and reach farther into fencerows with the telescoping boom on the TeleClipper. Land clearing has never been easier. The telescoping boom extends the cutting surface of the clipper head up to 10’3”. The boom will retract to 7’3” for easier and safer transporting and positioning of the clipper prior to cutting. The TeleClipper also includes a new Extreme Duty cutting head – Model 664000. The Extreme Duty clipper head has extra-long upper and lower plates resulting in easy release from trees and limbs and at the same time providing additional support for the blades. The self-cleaning side spacers also reduce the everyday maintenance of the clipper head.
The Simple Simon soil sampler is lightweight and easy to install and remove. The Simple Simon comes with a universal mounting kit adaptable to most 4-wheelers with adapter kits available for most side-by-side machines. Agriculture Council of America Announces 2016 National Ag Day Poster Art Contest Winner

The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) and Meredith Agrimedia encouraged young artists to celebrate modern agriculture through the 4th annual National Ag Day Poster Art Contest. A winning original piece of art has been chosen as the Official National Ag Day poster. Congratulations to Emily Eibs, University of Wisconsin-Stout, for being selected the winner of the contest. Eibs was selected among many young artists in the competition. The contest theme was Agriculture: Stewards of a Healthy Planet. National Ag Day is organized by the Agriculture Council of America and will take place March 15, 2016 in Washington, DC. ACA is a nonprofit organization composed of leaders in the agricultural, food and fiber community, dedicating its efforts to increasing the public’s awareness of agriculture’s role in modern society.

INDUSTRY NEWS New Drago GT Corn Head features S. Houle Announces New Tree QuadSuspension “ear shocks” to maximize Shear for 2016 harvest. S. Houle is proud to announce a new TS-16+Tree Shear, which Drago has introduced a new corn head representing the latest evolution in corn harvest technology. Called the Drago GT, the new corn head features multiple industry firsts and a singular focus of capturing maximum yield and return. Drago set a new standard for harvest efficiency when it introduced Automatic SelfAdjusting Deck Plates. The Drago GT now pairs that innovation with yet another industry first called QuadSuspension™ – integrated “ear shocks” under deck plates that work to reduce ear “butt shelling,” a significant source of yield loss at harvest. “We’re talking about deck plates that can actually absorb the terrific energy of ears as they are pulled down by knife rollers,” says Dragotec USA president and Fenton, Iowa, farmer Dennis Bollig. “This is especially important with today’s hybrids that dry down faster in the field. When those ears hit deck plates, the impact results in excessive shelling leading to yield loss. QuadSuspension helps deck plates absorb that energy, reduce shelling and capture more corn at harvest.”

Tree Shear Attachments
Trees can provide vital shade to livestock in pastures during the summer months, beauty to any landscape, and even cut down on your homes cooling bill. Sometimes, however, you need to remove trees for a variety of reasons. In this Product Spotlight we will take a look at tree shears. Tree Shears can take a very labor intensive and time-consuming task and turn it into another item marked off your to-do list.

The Blue Diamond tree shear for skid steers will cut trees up to 12” in diameter with ease. The powerful 5” x 12” cylinder produces 29 tons of force at 2500 PSI. By simply pulling a pin, the shear will rotate 90 degrees, which is perfect for cutting limbs or fallen trees. The Blue Diamond tree shear is designed to get the job done efficiently each and every time.
The original VCutter cuts trees quickly and easily. The VCutter’s patented “V” cutting design has no moving parts but rather uses the forward motion of the skid steer or tractor to shear the tree.The unique vertical grapple design will keep the cut trees standing and out of the cutting path.The vertical grapple also keeps the machine narrow to allow it to work well in tight clusters of trees. The VCutter cuts trees or brush from half an inch up to 8” diameter trees with its high carbon steel blades. The VCutter is also available without the grapple, and in a horizontal root grapple design.
The limitless application of the Erskine Attachments tree shear, with up to 12” cutting diameter, allows you to clear virtually any wooded lot or selectively harvest unwanted trees or brush such as mesquite, cedars, dogwood, alders, junipers, and osage orange.The Erskine tree shear’s head rotates 90 degrees to vertical position allowing for the cutting and pruning of limbs and boughs. Felled trees can be sectioned for easy removal or clipped to length for firewood or compact loading.

The Treerex is a powerful tree shear that is capable of cutting branches or trees up to 16” in diameter. Its single blade action allows for better control and quality of cut and its ability to rotate allows you to easily cut at angles or move fallen trees. Its low profile allows you to cut trees at ground level. It is especially designed for skid steer loaders and telehandlers. Because the Treerex can rotate up to 110 degrees, it is ideal for adjusting to all cutting angles or simply to crimp a cut limb to move away.
The Kansas Klipper cuts hard wood eleven inches in diameter on the first cut, larger trees are felled with more than one cut! It can also cut trees as small as a blade of grass that most cutters can’t cut when they are brand new.Those little pencil size hedge and cedars that need to be cut down can be with the ease. The spring system allows the cutter to adjust to the contour of the ground. It’s ideal for fencerow, bar ditch, scattered pasture trees, or heavy thickets. It’s also ideal for cutting firewood.
Fecon offers two types of Tree Shears for Skid Steers - Single Knife (FBS1400) and a Dual Knife (FBS1200 or FBS1500). Both are equipped with heavy-duty cylinders and rods to provide strong shearing action and faster cycle times.They also feature a strong yet lighter-weight frame, fitted with adjustable AR400 steel knives allowing you to grab more trees with a lower ground PSI.These shears are ideal for thinning and fuels reduction, among other types of tree removal applications. The dual knife action feature provides a more positive cut while maintaining the tree central to the shear and carrier.

The MIGHTYAXE™ tree shear is a heavyduty, scissor-like piece of equipment featuring hydraulic cylinders producing 60,000 to 80,000 pounds of pressure that cuts a tree at or below the ground level eliminating stump problems, without disturbing the soil. Its universal skid steer hookup quickly attaches to most skid steer loaders and tractors. The MightyAxe design allows for selective cutting, allowing valuable trees to be saved. The pointed blade design also allows the operator to reach tight areas that might not otherwise be easily reached.
Precision Manufacturing introduces the Extreme Duty HyReach Tree Shear. The Extreme Duty offers extended upper and lower plate weldments for added strength and blade protection. The “Easy Release” design keeps trees from getting wedged between the blades. The self-cleaning side spacers prevent buildup of dirt and debris. Cut at ground level or power rotate to trim limbs with the wireless remote. The 6’ reach beyond the reach of the loader creates plenty of clearance for equipment around the edges of fields thus increasing the productivity of the field.The blades never need sharpened and there is very low maintenance required. Skid Steer quick attach brackets are included and most loader brackets are available.
