Sustainability

This LEED Gold project included functional, aesthetic, and programmatic improvements to the buildings. Renovations provided conversion of community bathrooms to semiprivate bathrooms and public areas with functional and aesthetic improvements.

Green features include high-performance windows in the new additions, interior day lighting, and an energy consumption dashboard monitor. Site work included a series of underground rain water retention areas to reduce surface water runoff and the amount of discharge into the city’s storm sewer system.

Resilience

The project included a geothermal central heating and cooling plant that will eventually grow to serve most of OSU’s south housing. The closed loop geothermal system features 410 wells that are 550’ deep. The central plant provides 3,200 tons of cooling and 40,000 Kbtu/Hr of heating and uses 31% less energy.
