What is Feedback?

Feedback provides a sense of engagement and interactivity, and allows learners to take ownership of their learning. Effective feedback shows learners their current level of performance, and lets them know what they need to do to reach a higher level.

What Makes Good Feedback?

Feedback will be more effective if it:

● Links back to the goals and objectives of the learning ● Makes it clear how the knowledge/skill will support their progress ● Sets follow up task to reinforce the learning ● Sets further targets for progress

Immediate Feedback

For feedback to be effective, it should be given immediately after the task is completed. Immediate feedback makes learning more meaningful as mistakes and misconceptions can be promptly addressed.

Immediate feedback promotes autonomy and self-learning making the pace of learning adaptable to each individual student. It has the potential to help academic performance, promote motivation, self-regulation, and self-efficiency, allowing students to reduce the distance between their current performance and achieving their next step targets.

In Summary

Providing students engage with feedback, it will improve their confidence, self-awareness and enthusiasm for learning. Feedback is an essential part of effective learning as it helps the student understand the subject being taught, and gives clear guidance on how to improve.
