Letter from Mr Maguire

Dear colleagues, The year 2021 so far has been dominated by inspections in their various forms. These are never pleasurable experiences, and I do not know of a single person in our profession that ever looks forward to one. However, what an inspection does do is to make us reflect on what we do and why we are doing it and if it is having an impact. This final aspect is crucial, and I always encourage staff to be innovative, but most importantly efficient. Only do things if they have a positive impact. This excellent edition of the Professional Development Journal is highly commendable, and I thank the PD Committee and all of the contributors for their efforts in producing such an exciting collection of idea and articles. I hope that there are ideas within these pages that will encourage staff to experiment and hopefully find new ways of doing things. These may have a greater impact, be more efficient or hopefully both. I hope that you enjoy the edition as much as I have.
