Why We Hold The Next Generation Indie Book Awards

Why We BelieVe in The NeXt Generation Indie BooK AWards, NGIBA

Authors and publishers who compete in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are serious about promoting their books. They aim to stand out from the crowd of millions of new titles, and millions of other books currently in print.

Currently celebrating our 15th year and now entering our 16th year, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, NGIBA, is the largest International Book Awards Program recognizing and honoring the top independently published books of the year. Referred to in the media as the Sundance of the publishing world, the NGIBA draws leaders from both traditional and independent publishing to identify indie books deserving a wider audience. We look forward to celebrating our Winners and Finalists at our Gala Awards Reception in June.

Call for Judges for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards

We are seeking leaders in the book publishing industry to join the prestigious group of judges for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the largest international awards program honoring exceptional independently published books.

Judges for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are all actively involved in the publishing industry. They include literary agents, editors, book reviewers, writing teachers, publishing executives, best-selling authors, and experts in the various areas of judging including book design.

We welcome applications from individuals who have expertise with book publishers of any size. While many of our judges have worked with successful independent publishers, our judges also include individuals who have worked with major publishing houses such as Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins, Penguin Books, Bantam Books, Dell Publishing (part of the Random House Group), and Avon Books, among others.

For more information about our judges please visit: www.indiebookawards.com/judges.php.

Judges for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are paid a modest honorarium. We are looking for judges for both fiction and non-fiction categories.

Message from Founder and Co-Chair, Catherine Goulet

Congratulations to all of this year’s (2022) Winners and Finalists of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards as we celebrate our 15th Anniversary!

When Marilyn Allen and I started this awards program 15 years ago, our mission was to honor and recognize the most outstanding independently published books each year and grow to be the number one awards program for independent and self-published authors. Thank you to each of you for making this happen! This year alone we saw a 25% growth in entries over last year.

Thank you for sharing your stories and fantastic books with us. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to you the authors and independent publishers - your books have made us think, learn, grow, laugh and, at times, cry and they have enriched our lives in many ways.

Thank you to each of the judges who put their time and effort into ensuring a fair judication process. Once again, our judges had the difficult task of selecting the Winners and Finalists from an abundance of top quality books.

Thank you to my co-founder, Marilyn Allen, who is an extraordinary individual and talented literary agent along with my giving and thoughtful Co-Chair, Cathy Teets of Headline Books. These two talented and smart women have been an absolute pleasure to work with over the years and my heart is filled with joy to know them.

It is with much gratitude that I have the opportunity to work with our dedicated and hardworking Awards Coordinator, Shelley Anderson. Thank you Shelley for everything you have given to the Next Generation Indie Book Awards over the years to make this such a successful awards program!

My sincere thanks also go out to Tag Goulet, our advisors Ashley Belote, Eric Byrd, Lolly de Jonge, Beth KallmanWerner, Karen Kossie-Chernyshev, and John McDougall and all of our amazing staff including Mike Harris, Peter Cyngot, Heidi Ferber, Chris Marks, Meghan Taylor and Raymond Taylor. I am grateful to all of you for your dedicated work.

Although we thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many authors and publishers through our virtual awards programs held over the last two years, we are really looking forward to celebrating with this year’s Winners and Finalists in person at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC in June.

Being part of this awards program has been one of my life’s greatest gifts. I am honored and humbled to put on this awards program each year because of all of the talented writers, illustrators and publishers. I am forever grateful for all of my colleagues within our organization. Thank you and Happy Anniversary! (Catherine Goulet)

Message from Co-Founder, Marilyn Allen

15 Years! I could never have imagined this when Catherine Goulet first proposed we start an award program to honor great writers published by independent presses. It has been such a great professional achievement to work alongside Catherine and the amazing NGIBA team to build this from an idea into one of the world’s largest book award programs. And we are not done yet. We keep doing industry research and marketing to reach more writers, adding new categories and judges plus we are now developing a series of marketing zoom calls so our authors can reach more readers.

I want to congratulate all of our winners and finalists and urge everyone to keep writing. Publishing a book is truly one of the greatest accomplishments in life. Please keep writing and remember you are now an award winning author! Congratulations on your achievement and Happy Anniversary to the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. I raise my glass to you! (Marilyn Allen)

Message from Co-Chairperson, Cathy Teets

It is my honor to serve as co-chair of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Coming out of the pandemic and into supply chain issues has been a huge challenge for large and small publishers alike this year. I applaud the perseverance of independent publishers to put forth their amazing books and talented authors in this ever changing marketplace. Marketing is the biggest hurdle for us all and with technological advances we do continue to meet the market in bigger and better ways. Many thanks to Catherine Goulet, whose professionalism and talents give independent publishers and authors a platform to show their talents through the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. It’s humbling to be part of this illustrious and knowledgeable group of industry professionals whose goal is to celebrate independent authors, publishers, and books. (Cathy Teets)

Thank you to all the expert judges who review each of the books. Thank you to our Book Coordinator, Meghan Taylor who received all the books, Heidi Ferber, involved in marketing our awards program, Chris Marks, our web developer and Peter Cyngot, our catalog designer. We would also like to thank all the volunteers involved in making our awards reception a success!
