Wardrobe Policy

​HDCH Wardrobe Policy​ ​Goals:​ ​1.​ ​To present ourselves both in school and out in the community as ambassadors of HDCH.​ ​2.​ ​To present ourselves as learners in a Christian environment, professionally and appropriately.​ ​3.​ ​To commit to being present and ready to learn in our school environment.​ ​Expectations:​ ​1.​ ​Students are expected to be in their HDCH wardrobe at the 8:55 bell and remain so until​ ​3pm, the end of the school day. This includes “spares,” breaks, and lunch hour.​

​Wardrobe Basics:​ ​TOPS:​ ​●​ ​Students​​must wear a McCarthy shirt or McCarthy HDCH​​sweatshirt.​​Shirt options​ ​include:​ ​○​ ​McCarthy Shirts and Sweaters​ ​■​ ​long or short sleeved golf shirt (white or navy)​ ​■​ ​white blouse with logo​ ​■​ ​sweater vest​ ​■​ ​pull-over sweater​ ​■​ ​zip up sweater​ ​○​ ​McCarthy Hoodie or Crewneck with HDCH lettering​ ​●​ ​Students​​may wear a plain t-shirt under their McCarthy​​shirt​​for warmth or comfort.​ ​T-shirt options include:​ ​○​ ​Crew neck or v-neck​ ​○​ ​Long or short sleeves​ ​○​ ​Single colour– no patterns or slogans​ ​○​ ​Hooded sweatshirts may not be worn under uniform shirts​ ​BOTTOMS​​: All bottoms must meet the colour, style and​​fabric specifications of our policy.​ ​LONG PANTS:​ ​●​ ​Style: Flat front or pleated pants, either straight-legged or elasticized leg​ ​●​ ​Material: cotton, cotton blend, or athletic nylon​ ​●​ ​Colour: khaki or navy only​ ​●​ ​Sweat pants/jogging pants do not comply with uniform standards​ ​SHORTS:​ ​●​ ​Style: Must have an inseam of at least 5"​ ​●​ ​Material: cotton, cotton blend, or athletic nylon​ ​●​ ​Colour: khaki or navy only​ ​●​ ​Soccer shorts, yoga shorts, and “sweat” shorts do NOT comply with uniform​ ​standards​

​Important Clarifications​ ​ ​ ​Black, brown, or grey pants/shorts are not acceptable for uniform use​ ● ​●​ ​Hats, bandanas, and winter caps may not be worn during the school day​ ​●​ ​Our dress code applies to school trips, unless otherwise stated by the teacher​ ​●​ ​Special clothing designed for clubs, teams, or classes may only be worn on Fridays​ ​●​ ​Senior class sweatshirts may be worn daily by Grade 12 students, provided they have the​ ​HDCH appliqued logo on the chest and have been approved by the Vice Principal​

​Other Considerations:​ ​➢​ ​WEAR and REPAIR:​ ​○​ ​Clothing must be worn as designed​ ​○​ ​No underclothing may be showing​ ​○​ ​Items must be clean and in good repair​ ​○​ ​Clean, appropriate shoes must be worn at all times​ ​○​ ​Course related clothing (e.g. PE) will be worn in those classes only.​ ​○​ ​In urgent situations, there may be emergency wardrobe pieces available to borrow.​ ​Emergency wardrobe is not intended to replace a forgotten uniform; this is​ ​consistent with the expectation that students arrive dressed in uniform.​ ​➢​ ​SPECIAL DRESS DAYS:​ ​○​ ​Student Council is responsible for requesting special dress days.​ ​○​ ​Criteria for special dress days will be in the announcements before the date.​ ​○​ ​For dress-down days​ ​●​ ​Any messages, brands or images on your clothes or skin need to be​ ​appropriate for a Christian learning community (ie: no offensive slogans,​ ​messages, signs or symbols; no promotion of drugs or alcohol, hate,​ ​violence, or promiscuity)​ ​●​ ​Any rips or tears in clothing must not reveal underclothing​ ​●​ ​Shorts must be have an inseam of at least 5"​ ​●​ ​Tops must cover the midriff and have an appropriate neckline​ ​●​ ​Hats may not be worn in the building unless they are part of a special​ ​themed dress day​

​Procedure for Non-Compliance​ ​1.​ ​If a student is out of uniform during these times, non-uniform items will be taken directly​ ​to the office. The student can pick the item up at the end of the day from the office.​ ​2.​ ​If a second infraction occurs, the non-uniform item will be taken to the office, and​ ​parents/guardians will be notified. The non-uniform item will remain in the office until​ ​the parent/guardian picks them up personally.​
