Help Rank Green Chili

the Best Regional Food in America A

lbuquerque and its iconic red and green chile is among top contenders to be named the best regional food in America by 10Best.com. A battle is underway as online voting takes place across the country. New Mexico’s red and green chile is currently holding the top spot, but the competition continues until July 20th and we need residents’ help to keep it there. The contest is for favorite iconic American food as part of the 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. In the voting description New Mexico resident and 10Best.com writer Steve Larese raves about why New Mexico chile is the best regional food. See the complete article here. He describes green chile as embodying the culture that New Mexico offers by being a part of the traditional New Mexican fare and its “ladled onto just about everything edible.” It is a part of what shapes regional food products, lifestyles, family tradition, history, heritage, and even weather. As Larese says, “whether stewed, roasted or just chopped raw, the state’s official vegetable (which is actually a fruit) is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner.” We need your help to showcase just how much green chile embodies the New Mexican culture. Flying Star Cafe Announces its Summer Shakedown

J

uly 2, 2013 / Albuquerque & Santa Fe: As summer heats up, Flying Star Cafe launches its Summer Shakedown. A promotion featuring a classic summer combo, the Summer Shakedown offers guests the option to purchase a creamy milkshake for only $2 with the purchase of any burger. Milkshake flavors include summer favorites – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mango, and new this year – mint chocolate chip. Three new seasonal specials have joined Flying Star Cafe’s menu at the same time. An authentic New York Reuben sports house corned beef and Russian dressing, sauerkraut and swiss cheese, served on fresh Flying Star Bakery marble rye. The Manzano Cristo is Flying Star’s twist on a classic – fresh, thick sliced housemade brioche, shaved ham and turkey, pink lady apples and havarti cheese are seasoned with herb cheese spread and spicy aioli, then toasted. Fresh house raspberry jam accompanies for dipping. Hearty appetites will love Flying Star’s signature generous portions. The Panzanella Salad complements the enlightened menu Flying Star Cafe debuted in April. Brimming with New Mexico freshness,

the Panzanella combines Old Windmill Dairy goat cheese with local baby lettuces, seasonal tomatoes, red bell peppers, cucumbers, sweet basil and capers. In a reinterpretation of a traditional panzanella, this version places wedges of Flying Star Bakery Italian rustic herb baguette on the side. The result is light, lemony and flavorful. Flying Star Cafe has been recognized for 26 years as a local business committed to New Mexico’s community and economy. With over 18 dishes on the menu that highlight local products and 45 fresh, local veggies and fruits prepared daily, Flying Star Cafe supports many New Mexico farmers, ranchers and food artisans. Flying Star Cafe’s burgers are 100% New Mexico beef sourced from 7 local ranches. We invite you to choose from our list of options from the Blues Burger to the ABC Patty Melt and taste the difference of a fresh, local burger. Make it a Summer Shakedown by adding a $2 shake through September 10. - ItsATrip.org
