ake the opportunity this summer to learn about nocturnal animals and blooms that open at dusk during a guided evening tour at the BioPark. Docents lead groups through the Zoo, Botanic Garden or Tingley Beach afterhours to experience the sights and sounds that welcome the night. Tours meet on Tuesdays from June to August. “There is nothing quite like having a guided evening tour of your favorite BioPark exhibits,” said Kathryn Venzor, BioPark Education Curator. “From the active animal behavior in the cool evening air to the amazing night-blooming plants and nocturnal pollinators - the BioPark really does live an entirely different life at night.

Twilight Tours at the Zoo. Observe interesting animal behaviors on an adventure through the Zoo. Lions roar and nocturnal creatures come out as evening temperatures cool. Tours meet on June 11 and July 9 from 7 - 9 p.m. and on July 30 and August 6 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children (3-12) and seniors (65+).
Bosque Moonlight Hikes at Tingley Beach. Bring a flashlight and keen senses for a hike through the Rio Grande Bosque. Listen for owls, watch for bats and search for signs of porcupines and other nocturnal animals. Tours meet on June 18 and July 16 from 7:30 - 9 p.m. and on August 20 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children (3-12) and seniors (65+).
Night Walks at the Botanic Garden. Explore the gardens under the moonlight. Docents help find night-blooming plants and late-working pollinators. Tours meet on June 25 and July 23 from 7:30 - 9 p.m. and on August 27 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for children (3-12) and seniors (65+).

Embracing Technology To Promote Development S
ome say a new smartphone designed by Africans for use in Africa is a smart way to promote social and economic development throughout the continent. The phone is one element of a broader initiative called 4Afrika. It’s built on the dual beliefs that technology such as the smartphone and other devices built for the African market can accelerate growth for Africa and Africa can also advance technology for the world. The initiative is sponsored by Microsoft and built from the passion of its diverse employees. A Multifaceted Initiative The 4Afrika Initiative focuses on three different aspects of social and
economic development: • accelerating capacity building and skills development, • providing access to technology, particularly through cloud services and smart devices, and • helping to ignite African innovation for the continent and for the world. A Chance To Give Back The 4Afrika Initiative was greatly influenced by Microsoft’s African employees in the United States who were driven by the desire to use their talents and passion to give back to their respective countries. The African employees in the Microsoft Employee Network (EN) working in the U.S. were able to provide input during the planning phase of the 4Afrika Initiative and have continued to influence 4Afrika’s various programs. A telling success of the Africans at Microsoft EN and the commitment to the 4Afrika Initiative is represented by Patrick Onwumere, Microsoft’s Director of Youth Enablement, Africa Initiatives, who was the EN president during the 4Afrika plan ideation and recently transitioned from the Redmond headquarters back to Africa to lead the 4Afrika Youth Enablement program. 4Afrika offers the opportunity to channel resources from Redmond directly to the continent and provide unprecedented agility, which underscores the opportunity to effect change and drive business impact. A Long Relationship Promoting development in Africa is not something new for Microsoft. It has been doing business there for 20 years and now has 22 offices in 19 cities across 14 countries. - (NAPSI)
