HCR ManorCare volume 15 | JULY 2018
Stiltner Strong “We are HCR ManorCare. We’re there for our coworkers.” Long-term employee Link Stiltner of Heartland - Jackson (Ohio) suffered a massive heart attack shortly after stepping down as the Maintenance Director. Needless to say, several complications including Link being put on life support strapped the family financially. Link was admitted to Heartland - Jackson where he received therapy and skilled nursing before returning home. When the community heard about this they put together a fundraiser for him that raised over $20,000! It started when Montana Dean and Brandy Hale (both Heartland nurses) decided to sell t-shirts they made to raise money. This inspired other employees to start fundraisers with food, soft drinks and candy bar sales. Local businesses in the area decided to step it up a notch and hold an event that included bingo, dinner and an auction, which involved the whole community.
“This inspired other employees to start fundraisers with food, soft drinks and candy bar sales.” At the event, everything from a guitar amp to a grill were auctioned off. There was also a Chinese auction and a chicken noodle dinner. All of Link’s co workers said it was the least

they could do since Link was always the first to help out fellow coworkers when he worked at Heartland and always the first to open up his wallet when soemone was in need.
“...Link was always the first to help out fellow coworkers...” Some of the businesses that helped and contributed were Ponderosa, AutoZone, Franklin Valley Golf Course, Advanced Auto, Elizabeth’s Flowers, Franklin Valley Carpet Outlet, Paparazzi Jewelry and Napa of Oak Hill along with many other organizations.
