BORDER CRISIS CIVILIAN MILITIA UNITS No matter which side of this issue you are on, or if you just straddle the fence. We, as Americans have a right and a duty to this Country. For so long we sat back and let “big government” have it’s way. However, you have to ask yourself, Is Civilian Militia the answer? The crisis along the US-Mexico border and the ineffective action of our President and Lawmakers has prompted just that! Concerned citizens taking matters into their own hands. Although since early June there has been talk of Militia deploying to the border, they are there now! Reports emerged this week that armed volunteer militia groups from across the country have begun patrolling the border to help stem the tide of immigrants illegally crossing over. Outraged, members of the Texas Democratic congressional delegation wrote a letter to the state’s attorney general demanding he denounce the militias and define what they can legally do. They called the

militias “lawless,” warned that they “perpetuate the stigma that the border is a war zone” and requested that the attorney general “clarify the jurisdiction these militia groups have to patrol alongside local law enforcement and

National Guard deployment and the state border surge, and has demanded the federal government foot the bill. Abbott spokeswoman Lauren Bean called the letter a “partisan political stunt” and said that instead

Border Patrol agents.” Atty. Gen. Greg Abbott, a Republican campaigning to replace Perry as governor, dismissed the letter through a spokeswoman. Abbott backed the

of complaining about the militias, the Democrats “should work with their Republican colleagues to secure federal funding for the state’s border security efforts.” I printed that one as I found it

in the Los Angeles Times...I liked it! The Patriot Information Hotline, a 24hour conference line that the groups are using to coordinate their efforts, said that 14 groups have taken up patrol along the border from Texas to California, with more on the way. “We need people out here to help control the influx of people,” it said. “As of a month ago, there were 130,000 people that have crossed the border illegally since January. Our economy cannot handle that. In the past month, we’ve added another 30 or 40,000 [undocumented immigrants].” News of the militias has spread at a time when the border has grown more militarized in response to an influx of Central American immigrants-- more than 57,000 since October. Militia members started arriving on the Texas border to assist as part of a deployment they called Operation Secure Our Border: Laredo Sector. continued page 2
