The Huajilla Unit of Retired Teachers held its Christmas Social and Luncheon on December 10 at Just Like Home Café in downtown D’Hanis. The gathering was scheduled to distribute 950 books among the following agencies (in no particular order): Medina County Brown Santa, represented by Sheriff’s Office members “Dede” Jasso, and Investigators Marc Esquibel and Alfonso Oranday; the Southwest Family Life Centers represented by Elda M Garcia, Exec. Dir; the Bluebonnet Children’s Center represented by Intake Specialist Robert Marks and
Executive Director Edward Gentry; and the Blue Santa program represented by Investigators Evans and Rivas. The Book Project, a statewide project sponsored by the Texas Retired Teachers Units across the state, provide books for school aged children most in need who and can benefit the most from books. Just because the Holidays are here doesn’t mean litter doesn’t appear. The members of the Masonic Lodge performed their civic duty of picking up trash along the highways and byways of Real County. At least four times per year the group gets together and helps to keep our community clean. Leakey Masons and wives picked up 31 bags of trash north of Leakey a few weeks
ago during the Thanksgiving season.
