The January air is crisp with the invigorating spirit of fresh beginnings. Against the backdrop of a winter landscape we find warmth in the collective heartbeat of the Yampa Valley. We are, the Heart of the Yampa Valley.

It was a fitting end to an amazing season for local bareback rider Keenan Hayes. The Hayden, CO native became the first cowboy to win a PRCA Bareback Riding World Championship in his rookie season. Hayes secured his spot in the PRCA record book with his electric 90-point ride on J Bar J’s Straight Ringer in Round 10 of the 2023 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in front of 17,620 spectators at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV. The ride allowed Hayes to finish with $434,050, which is a PRCA Bareback Riding single-season earnings record. The previous record was $425,843 by Clayton Biglow in 2019. “I was just worried about getting my hand ready and letting the ride take care of itself, and it ended up working out,” Hayes said. “We knew what it was (being the first rookie to win the bareback world championship), I didn’t want to think about it too much, I just knew I had to get the job done.” The Town of Hayden and the entire Hayden Community wish to congratulate Keenan Hayes for this monumental achievement. We look forward to many more in the future!

WE ARE HAYDEN. We believe in living true to our roots and true to ourselves. That each of our lives looks differently, each is equally valuable and freedom comes from living it in our own way. We stand in awe at the beauty that surrounds us and are deeply grateful to live here. Thankful for our ancestors and the road they paved for us and honored to do the same for our children and grandchildren. Through hard work, optimism, and each other we will leave this place better than we found it. We believe that wholesome is underrated and simple is misunderstood. We are proud of our way of life, even as the world changes around us. We offer welcoming, open arms to those that come to us, always making room for more, but never at the expense of our values. We believe home really is where the heart is. Where community is cultivated, memories are shared, values are created.
