A very merry war on Christmas to all ndy Williams described it as the “most wonderful time of the year” in his iconic song, which serves as anthem for the holiday season.

Much like Williams, I find this season to be most grand.

It’s a time to gather with family and friends, to drink eggnog Nick Fiorillo Editor-in-chief and eat sugar cookies and to take a break from the stresses of life.

Contrary to the beliefs of the usually insightful philosophers at Fox News, the so-called “War on Christmas” is not real.

Nobody is trying to steal the day in which many Christians commemorate Jesus’ birth by giving corporate America a nice bump in profits.

What Fox News likes to preach is the notion that those horrible liberals have made it so they can no longer say, “Merry Christmas.”

While this is another example of another imaginary Fox war, there is no reason why one shouldn’t be allowed to say, “Merry Christmas.”

What people are really asking for is that Christmas, one of the many holidays celebrated during this time, is not the only holiday we are allowed to discuss.

Food drive does wonders for community

A

s the Hawkeye went to press, the current food drive earnings totaled more than 18,000 cans.

The entire MTHS community did an outstanding job collecting food and cash for the Concern for Neighbors food bank in Mountlake Terrace.

Food drive organizers did a great job coordinating classes and groups to collect cans outside of local grocery stores.

The clubs, activities, classes, students and staff of MTHS put in hard work, standing out in the cold for hours to collect food for the less fortunate.

In our last issue, we reported on the issue of homelessness in the Mountlake Terrace area.

It is clear that the MTHS community deeply cares about its neighbors.

The holidays are an especially hard time for people living in poverty. As the temperatures get colder and families are short on cash, it’s important that we think about others, not just ourselves.

The students, parents and staff at MTHS have shown genuine generosity in a time when it’s needed most. H

Incredible performance from drama department

T

he drama department put on a stunning performance in November’s production of “The Miracle Worker.”

Although MTHS’s drama program consistently does a great job, this recent play was even more amazing than usual.

The acting was what made this production exceptional. Lead actors Danielle Hirano and Emily Davidson were thoroughly believable in their exceedingly challenging roles.

Davidson took on the incredible task of playing Helen Keller, who was both blind and deaf. She handled the role with great professionalism.

Hirano’s intensity as Keller’s instructor Annie Sullivan led to a moving performance.

his is a wonderful time of year. We just finished Thanksgiving Break and are heading into the Winter Holiday break in just a few more weeks.

It’s cold outside and I finally had my first eggnog latte’ of the season.

With everything we all Greg Schwab Principal have to be grateful for, I wanted to take second to remind us all about the importance of giving and helping others.

ASB has done an amazing job this year with the Food Drive.

We are on target to raise over 20,000 cans of food that will be donated to our local food bank to help families in our community who are struggling financially.

What’s really amazing about this is the significant increase in giving that we have seen this year. There were a few years there where we didn’t come close to hitting the 20,000 can mark.

s a parent and school board member in Edmonds, I enthusiastically support Proposition No. 2, the Capital Construction Bond for the Edmonds School District.

First, we need more classrooms to support lower class sizes and all-day kindergarten.

Recently, the Washington State Supreme Court ordered the state legislature to fund “Basic Education” for our students. This was a welcome change – prior to this ruling, Washington ranked 43rd in the nation in funding per student, and 47th in class size.

This is unacceptable, in my opinion. Clearly, our state can do more to support public education.

The positive news from the court ruling, called the McCleary decision, is that our legislature added more funding this year for education and teachers. However, the district cannot use this money for capital expenditures, including new schools or classrooms. While we may be able to hire more teachers to lower class sizes, we need to have more classrooms available.

Second, our old schools simply need to be replaced. The schools targeted for replacement were built in the ’60s and are long past their useful life. New schools built today are much more energy efficient, have added safety improvements and take into consideration the new demands for computer and science labs.

The need for new schools is clear. I strongly encourage our citizens in the district to support this important measure to fund our schools.

Proposition 1 is simply a renewal of a current tax that we are already paying for. By renewing this levy we can continue to operate the district at the current levels. This levy pays for teachers, books, Paraeducators, services for special needs students, and school supplies, among other items.

Proposition 2 is a capital improvements bond which will allow us to improve and or rebuild some schools to enable them to begin full time kindergarten at all schools, reduce class size in grades 1-6, and building/safety improvements.

These improvements and additions to reduce class size are needed. A state Supreme Court ruling says that the state must offer full day kindergarten by 2018.

Let’s not do what the Mukilteo School District had to do last year: turn down millions of dollars to fund full time kindergarten due to lack of facility space.

Both these propositions will have a positive impact on or kids, teachers, parents and community.

A

lot has happened since 2006, when the last bond measure was put before the voters of this district – 5th-graders from 2006 are today’s high school seniors.

Students have aged and so have school buildings. On the February 2014 bond are three aging buildings – Lynndale Elementary (built in 1957), Madrona K-8 (built in 1963) and Alderwood Middle School (built in 1966).

The district waited eight years to ask the community to fund capital construction, cognizant of the economic realities that have hit the school community, the communityat-large and us all. Those buildings, though, haven’t gotten better with age; they’ve gotten worse. They need to be replaced and the longer we wait, the more expensive they’ll be.

The board has worked with the district to structure the financial impact of the bond to maintain a stable tax rate over time. The table [on page 12] shows the projected tax rate through 2028.

There are other projects on the bond, meant to have a positive impact across the entire district. The voters said, “yes” in 2006 and we’re hopeful they will continue to see the value in supporting public education by saying, “yes” in 2014.

n Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, the Edmonds School District will hold an election that includes a Capital Construction Bond. I would urge all voters to approve this bond!

The bond is a tax on property that pays for much needed construction projects for the School District.

This bond will allow the District to improve safety, reduce class sizes, upgrade heating and cooling systems, add classrooms for full day kindergarten, modernize 3 elementary schools, replace 3 existing schools and relocate/replace the Transportation and Maintenance facilities, among other things.

Projects considered for Mountlake Terrace High School would include replacing the boiler, artificial track and the heating and air conditioning system.

Many of these projects had been considered for a number of years and included input from the public and District staff.

The School District ensured that managing the timing of the sale of the bonds and the projects would minimize the cost to property owners. You can get more information on the bond on the Edmonds School District website, www.edmonds.wednet.edu.

A bond requires a 60 percent supermajority vote, so please vote yes for the bond issue on Feb. 11!

New policies discourage participation in activities

T

he MTHS administration has recently implemented two major changes that impact students who participate in extra curricular activities.

The first change requires all those who want to ride the activities bus at 3:30 p.m. to have a pass from a teacher to prove that they were staying for academic help or for a club.

The second is the introduction of a new bell that rings everyday at 2:15 p.m. When this bell sounds, any students still in the building must be under the supervision on an adult.

It’s disappointing to know that both these policies were implemented without the input of the general student body. However, there are several ways that these new policies can be improved.

The requirement that all students riding the activities bus must have a pass is just a new hassle that will further discourage students from staying after school for activities. Often, students aren’t always under adult supervision or forget to ask for a pass. If some students can’t get on the activities bus, many do not have any other way to get home.

Instead of throwing all remaining students out on the street by 2:15 p.m., students should be required to either be in a classroom or in a chosen designated area, such as the HUB. It’s understandable why the administration does not want students wandering throughout the school hours after the day’s end. But instead of saying the entire school is off limits, staff should provide more opportunities for students to stay after school and work on homework, make up projects or tests or simply having a warm place to wait for a way to get home.

The problem that the administration is facing is a legitimate concern. Administrators have to ensure the safety of students at a time where there are no staff on duty to do so. That is understood.

We agree that there is no easy solution to this issue. However, the rules that the administration has implemented are not the right ones for MTHS. These policies were made by executive decision without student input – and that’s not consistent with the traditions here at Terrace.

The Hawkeye would like to host a forum for students, staff and administrators to discuss the new policies and explore better solutions for the issue at large.

Students should be encouarged and welcomed to become more involved in school and extra-curricular activities – not asked to leave.

These two recent policies are the opposite of MTHS’s tradition as a welcoming community. H

Q&A: Principal Greg Schwab on how propositions 1 & 2 would impact Terrace HAWKEYE: Describe the function of Proposition 1.

SCHWAB: It’s a replacement of the current levy that expires. It expires this year. There is no increase in taxes. It is just to maintain the current funds.

H: What does Proposition 1 do for MTHS? S: We benefit from it by having additional teachers. We have additional teachers that have been hired because we have those funds. We are able to have additional funds for our extracurricular programs. It really covers a lot of different things but here MTHS those are the primary areas that you see students and staff benefit from those funds.

H: What would happen if those funds were eliminated from the school budget?

S: Our district budget, 23 percent comes from this levy. So, we would need to cut roughly 23 percent of our district budget if the levy were not to be passed. That would result in some significant cuts.

H: Do you know the extent to what those cuts would be?

S: It would be hard to say. Just to put in perspective, if you think of our district budget as one dollar, 87 cents of that dollar is taken up by the cost of salary and benefits for staff, 13 cents of that dollar make up the cost of things like buying fuel for buses, the power and electricity to run schools. So you can see pretty quickly that not having the levy means we would have to cut into staffing.

H: Let’s talk about Proposition 2. What would that do for MTHS? S: Proposition 2 is a capital projects bond. It’s about a $275 million project for the construction and refurbishment of pretty much every school in the district. If this were to pass MTHS would see about $9 million in improvements. Probably the most noticeable thing would be that the ventilation system would be replaced. That would be the most significant chunk of the money that we would receive if it were to pass.

H: What else would Proposition 2 fund?

S: The other thing that this bond would fund is the construction of some new schools. There is a need for a new Alderwood Middle School and a couple of new elementary schools, so money from that bond would go towards those projects as well.

H: What effect on taxes would Proposition 2 have?

S: This would be a tax increase, while the maintenance and operations replacement levy is no increase. This Capital Projects bond would result in about $12 increase per month per household, is what they’re projecting. There’s no way to spin this otherwise, a capital projects bond is an increase in taxes.

H: Why is it worth it to taxpayers to pass this bond?

S: The thing to remember is communities across this district have some pretty significant needs. As our buildings age there are things we just simply need to do to maintain safety and security.

Having a bond like this one allows us to do that.

Serafina Urrutia | Hawkeye H: In 2007, the state was sued because lawmakers have not been adequately funding public education in McCleary v. State of Washington. Has the state stepped up and provided adequate funding for education since the state supreme court’s decision?

S: We’re getting there. The state is getting there. This year has been a down payment on that promise. The Edmonds School District saw an increase of about $10 million just because of an increase in the state budget thanks to the McCleary lawsuit.

There’s still a ways to go. If you look at our school district over the last five years we’ve cut a significant chunk of our school district’s budget, about $45 million over the last several years just because of budget cuts and our declining economy. Having that extra $10 million this year allowed us to do a lot as a school district to restore some programs. We still have work to do. One of the things that this funding would do is decrease class size in the elementary schools and all day kindergarten programs. Those increases in funding require additional classrooms. We don’t have those additional classrooms right now. So that’s another challenge we’re facing is making sure we have the capacity to be able to have additional classrooms. The Mukilteo School District had to turn down more than $1 million in increased state funding because they simply did not have a place to put those classrooms for kindergarten. They had so say no to the state, because they didn’t have a place to put those classes.

That to me is really symptomatic of the challenges we’re facing, which is why I think the capital bond is one of the important things for voters to take a look at and become educated about.

H: Anything else you’d like to add about the two measures?

S: The most important thing I would say to voters is to become educated and take a look at the information the district is putting out and take the time to get educated about the issues. In the end you have to vote your conscience and vote the way you think is best. But I would encourage people to become educated about these measures and understand what it is that the district is asking for. H

The phrase “those who are less fortunate� brings about images of families who don’t have enough to eat or homeless shelters that fill up at this time of year, but people tend to forget that there are other starved stomachs that have to bear the cold weather. “I

f you told me a year ago that I would be waking up at 5 o’clock every morning to walk a pit bull and have my hands in warm poop, I would have laughed at you,” says ASB and athletics coordinator Kim Stewart.

Ironic as it may seem, Stewart now chuckles every morning as he follows his old “broken down” pit bull each morning.

Kept in a kennel for eight months, then relocated and hidden in an animal shelter in a staff break room, Stewart’s dog was finally evicted from the animal shelter and moved to Pet Adventure on the corner of 44th Ave. W and 228th St SW. He first heard about the dog on (EdmondsPets), and shortly afterwards took initiaive to look further into the dog. At first sight, Stewart noticed the dog’s poor physical state. He had holes in his ears, chewed up hind quarters, and two torn ACLs. This little pit bull was a bait dog.

Even though the dog was clearly a victim of animal abuse, it was a mystery to Stewart why the dog was still so friendly as the pit bull mopped his face up with a slobbering tongue.

Nevertheless, the pit went home with Stew that day.

He named him Righty.

Animal abuse and cruelty is not common place or often heard of in Mountlake Terrace and many people are unaware of its existence. According to humanesociety.org, “Most cases of [animal abuse] are never reported, and most animal suffering goes unrecognized and unabated.”

Studies (PAWS) or the Snohomish County Animal Control Center will prove revealing in terms of how many animal cruelty cases are present.

According the Washington State RCWs, a person has committed animal abuse if he or she has: (a) inflicted substantial pain on (b) causes physical injury to, or (c) kills an animal by a means causing undue suffering, or forces a minor to inflict unnecessary pain, injury, or death on an animal.

You may be curious as to why anyone would want to abuse an animal in the first place, and there is easy no easy answer, only a system to organize perpetrators of abuse. The first group of abusers are those who hurt animals unintentionally.

This may mean that somebody may have forgotten to feed their cat or give their dog water, although it isn’t particularly harmful. The next group of people are those who abuse animals intentionally but are largely unaware of the animal’s suffering. This may include children who throw rocks at

pets for amusement or, a more common situation, a pet owner who hits an animal to discipline and punish them in order to train them. Animal cruelty in its worst form takes place among people who commit the crime

intentionally and by cruel means. This includes dog fighting, killing pets, and horribly neglecting pet’s needs because the suffering provides gratification and enjoyment. These people typically are either profiteers or psychologically disturbed people that need help.

Many people would also argue that abandoning a pet is a form of animal cruelty. In short, people ...continued on page 10

are unable or unwilling to take care of a pet that they took into their own responsibility, and in doing so, they will release their pet onto the streets as strays. It’s not as evident in Washington due to superb animal abuse codes and tight animal control centers, but there are other areas that deal with large epidemics of homeless animals.

“California has really big issues with homeless dogs, particularly Chihuahua mixed breeds. And research shows that there will be an increase in certain breeds when a movie has become very popular,” freshman English teacher Fay Mafnas said. “So the Chihuahua has become a breed that has become what you call a purse puppy and there is a connection there.

She confirms that among them are Greyhounds, Dalmatians, and Chihuahuas, pit bulls, and cattle dogs. These types of dogs are exploited for many different reasons.

Trained and geared for racing, Greyhounds have short careers as race dogs, therefore when that lifespan has come to an end, many trainers simply abandon their pets and many end up in shelters.

In comparison, pit bulls have been breeded to maximize jaw strength and size in order to create an aggressive breed for dog fighting, something that became popular after the Civil War for professional pit bull proliferating, according to dosomething.org.

Mafnas says that herding breeds are typically abandoned because, “parents think ‘they keep biting my kids feet or they keep ‘circling my kid’ but [that’s] because they’re herders! They’re not hurting your kid. They keep thinking they have to keep them in some small space.”

Keeping all of these points in mind, it’s evident that there is more than one reason why certain kinds of dogs are neglected. Also keep in mind that although pit bulls are considered an aggressive species and some owners may give their dog up to shelters or abandon them because of that, any breed can

be particularly vicious.

“Instead of blaming the breed [and saying] ‘all pit bulls are dangerous,’ let’s go back to how human beings are involved and what are humans doing that are putting the dog in a situation to [make them] respond the way they do, because I would argue that you could take just about any breed and make that breed vicious,” Mafnas said.

Stewart strongly agrees with Mafnas. Rather than assusming his adopted pit bull was an attack dog, he quickly created a relationship with a dog that that is gentle, loving and warm. His first memory of Righty was when he was “dog searching.”

“Every Monday night he goes to physical therapy,” Stewart says of Righty. “He jumps in the pool and moves his feet around and exercises.

And when he gets home, my wife throws a bunch of towels in the dryer and wraps him up in them on the couch so that if he’s hurting after therapy then he can rest,” Stewart said.

It’s rare that a sheltered, abandoned and abused dog ever finds a home where it can recover while mending other’s hearts.

“Because of the arthritis is in his back legs, he has trouble getting up stairs [and] getting in trucks so I am his Easy Lifter. I carry him up two flights of stairs every night [and] he sleeps with us,” Stewart said.

Apparently, Righty is more than just a dog to Stewart.

As a finishing thought, Stewart added, “It’s not a suit that doesn’t fit or a shirt that doesn’t fit or a pair of shoes that don’t fit and something that you can take back to Nordstrom’s. These pets fall in love with you, and what I think is animal cruelty is when people [say] ‘I’m done with it. I don’t want to deal with it anymore.’” H

ESD Places two propositions on the February Ballot

Superintendent Nick Brossoit presented several informational talks to parents and community members about the two new ESD propositions that are scheduled to be on the ballot February 11. Registered voters in the district will receive mail-in ballots by Jan. 22, which should be returned

by Feb. 11.

“To me, [the meeting] was important. I feel more reassured that they will be using the money responsibly and will be fiscally prudent with it. Reality is this is difficult economic times for a lot of families and I know that a lot of families are struggling, and so I wouldn’t want to impose a new burden on anyone. So, hearing the answers makes me think they will be more responsible. I’ve seen in some other decisions that they will be more conservative with the money than they have been in the past,” Christi Davis, a parent from Edmonds Heights K-12, said. Davis was in attendance at Brossoit’s Nov. 20 presentation at Edmonds Woodway High School’s theater.

The first proposition is a replacement levy for the district programs and operations, which supports basic operational dollars for the school district. For every dollar the district spends in general fund, 88 percent goes to salary and benefits for staff, while 12 percent goes to operations. The funding from proposition 1 makes up 23 percent of every dollar the Edmonds School District spends.

The local levy will help provide better programs since the state does not fully fund basic education.

The current levy, which is renewed every four years, will expire in 2014. The voting is comprised of a simple majority, which means that 50 percent or more of the votes are required in order for the proposition to pass.

Three Terrace athletes commit to D1 schools

Serres becomes a Beaver early

Not that many sophomores would verbally commit to one of their first collegiate offers or commit in their sophomore year for that, but that is exactly what the Hawks sophomore Drew Serres did.

On Oct. 22, Serres verbally committed to play baseball for the Beavers at Oregon State University. In late August, Serres Drew Serres went to a prospect camp in Sophomore, OSU Commit Corvallis, Ore., and did testing and drills. Then on Oct. 4 he went to OSU on an unofficial visit.

“I really enjoy the campus. It is all really close and everything is really nice, which helps a lot,” Serres said. Also, Serres got to meet the academic adviser and talk with him about student athletes.

“The academic part [of OSU] was probably the best thing, that is a reason why I want to go to OSU,” Serres said. ”If you have a degree it really pays off in the long run.”

Serres hopes to major in business marketing. “They are known nationally for business, and that is what I would like to major in,” Serres said.

Serres has three more years of Terrace baseball to look forward to before heading off to Oregon State University and becoming a Beaver.

When asked about his commitment, Serres said, “I’m more than happy with my commitment to play baseball for them (OSU). Go Beavs.”

Kristjanson: Hawk to Redhawk

After verbally committing just over a year ago, Maddy Kristjanson made the full commitment on Nov. 13, signing her letter of intent to play softball for the Seattle University Redhawks.

In her junior season, Kristjanson was key for the Hawks softball team throughout the campaign, in which they made the 3A state tournament for the fourth time in Terrace history, placing seventh.

Even though softball has gotten her to where she is, education is a part of Kristjanson’s future.

“I also chose [Seattle U] because they are a smaller private school and they have smaller classes, so you get to know your teachers better,” Kristjanson said. “I plan on majoring in elementary education. I want to be an teacher.”

Seattle University is very close to home, which is the other reason she chose to be a Redhawk. “Seattle University was close to home (and) since I have a lot of family and friends that support me they can still make it to some of my games,” Kristjanson said.

Kristjanson just recently finished her senior season of soccer. She has started basketball as of now, and then will play Hawks softball for one more season. With a softball team that graduated just three seniors last year, Kristjanson is hoping to end her Terrace career on top.

Pahinui to tackle for Spartans

“I was a big kid, so I had to play,” Jevin Pahinui said when talking about getting started with football at 5 years old. In 2010, his freshman year, Pahinui started six of the 10 games at defensive tackle. The four-year varsity starter made two playoff appearances (2012 and 2013), made the 2011 All-WesCo honorable mention, 2012 1st team All-WesCo offense and defense, 2012 All-Area 2nd team defense, 2013 1st team Jevin Pahinui All-WesCo offense and defense, Senior, San Jose State Commit 2013 All-Area 1st team offense and defense and finally 2013 All-State for offense.

Pahinui had offers from Eastern Washington, Wyoming, Portland State, Central Washington, Boise State and San Jose State to choose from.

“I picked San Jose because [of] the area, its nice weather, [and] overall the coaching staff is great,” Pahinui said about the school and coaches. “They treated me like I was [their] teammate.”

As for advice to student athletes, Pahinui said: “Pursue your dreams, get as much help in the classroom as you can, give as much back to the community as you can, [and] do not give up. Every athlete has a dream, a goal, and my goal was to play Division 1 football, and I never gave up on that goal.

Once you find it in yourself, you can go anywhere in life,” he said.

“That’s the way that I saw it and that’s the way that I pursued my goals, in playing football. Give 110 percent in everything you do.” H

One for the record books

Six different fall sports teams advanced to the postseason – three of which sent competitors to state competitions – creating an historic season for the Hawks

Women’s XC

A fifth place finish at the WIAA 3A State Championships, and the best has yet to come for this talented and young team. With four All-Wesco competitors, all underclassmen, the team found astonishing success, winning the Edmonds School District championship meet and taking a second place finish at both the WesCo and District 1 championships.

“They are extremely talented but the big key for this group is they are as tough mentally as they are physically gifted,” coach Todd Weber said. “This group knows they have a chance to leave Terrace as one of the most established programs in Terrace history.”

The team finished with four runners in the top 35 at the state championship with freshmen Katherine Gustafson (6th) and Sofia Nelson (8th) leading the way, followed by sophomores Ella Schroth (22nd) and Katherine Walter (31st).

Football

Between losing star running back Devante Downs to an ACL injury and a 1-3 start to the first half of the season, the year seemed to be one merely for growth and development of a young Hawks’ football team.

The team then proceeded to finish the year on a 4-1 run, qualifying for a playoff trip down to Vancouver to play the Mountain View Thunder, where the Hawks lost 31-21 in the District round.

Late season addition Malcolm Johnson brought the power run game that the Hawks missed, bringing hope for an explosive season next year.

Women’s Swim

Freshman Annika Matthews was the women’s swim team lone representative in the state championship. Aside from anchoring the young team nearly all season, she finished 20th in the state championship preliminary round, in a group made up of just three other freshmen and 20 upperclassmen.

Men’s XC

Behind four All-WesCo seniors, the Hawks’ men’s cross country team ran their way to a 10th place finish at the 3A State Championship, including five top 100 finishers with seniors Jack Pearce (31st), Peter Kidane (58th), Wyatt Allemann (65th), Nathan Sparks (74th) and Chris Baumgartner (94th).

Coach Weber said, “They taught others how hard work both in season and off season can produce great results. They showed the strength of being a group of brothers and accomplishing their goals together. Most importantly they demonstrated to our whole group that having lots of fun and working hard when it was time to crank it up [are] the perfect ingredients for success.”

Volleyball

Losing just three regular season games is a major feat in and of itself, with many of those victories coming in three game sweeps.

Led by five seniors, Madison Eich, Justine

Kelly, Meg Roberts, Micha Jackson and Lilianne Nguyen, the team was formidable against perennial state favorites such as Glacier Peak and Meadowdale.

Advancing to the quarterfinals of the District 1 tournament, they fell to Ferndale and Meadowdale just one game before advancing to the state tournament.

Women’s Soccer

After a 4-7-1 season in 2012, junior Lily Hart scored 21 goals in 20 games, while seniors Maddy Kristjanson, Nikkie Froehlich and Amanda Aversano led the team on defense just shy of the state tournament ending with a 12-7-1 record under first year coach Evan Hatch.

Improvement was present throughout the year, as losing to Marysville-Pilchuck 3-2 was “our best game of the season,” Hatch said. “I was predicting some improvement. I was not predicting this level of improvement or this level of success.” H

Ragsdale set a school record for rushing yards in a single game with 334 yards on just 16 carries against Shorewood as well as the single sesason record with 1616 yards on 238 carries, averaging almost seven yards per carry. Ragsdale also earned First Team All-WesCo honors and Second Team All-Area at running back.
