Who is the programme for and what will be involved?

This Senior Leader Apprenticeship standard has been designed for any individual moving into a senior or strategic management role. This can include General Managers, Senior Managers, Section Leaders, Executives, Directors, COO, CFO, CEO, CIO roles, and senior military officers.

Learners will be assigned a leadership coach to provide them with help and support delivered through a blended learning approach combining on and off-the-job training to ensure they develop the skills required for their role. With the support of their coach, learners will complete a range of online learning modules and attend remote workshops that develop their underpinning knowledge of a broad range of strategic leadership tasks and concepts. These skills are assessed through formal tasks, contributing to a portfolio of evidence, presentations and the production of a strategic business proposal with real business application and benefit. The learning from these topics is holistically assessed through the completion of a range of formal assessment tasks that contribute to their portfolio of evidence and presentations.

Enrolling in the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship is an investment in future-proofing both individual careers and the organisation's growth. Participants will emerge as strategic thinkers, adept at driving innovation and productivity, fostering a positive organisational culture, and navigating complex challenges. For businesses, this translates to a robust leadership pipeline, streamlined operations, enhanced stakeholder relationships, and an elevated brand image through corporate responsibility. This apprenticeship is not just about personal advancement; it's about equipping leaders to shape the future success of their organisations in an ever-evolving business landscape.

In addition to developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to be a successful Senior Leader, learners will, if 19 or over at the start of their apprenticeship, have the option of working towards Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in English and maths. Functional Skills are mandatory for apprentices aged 16-18 (unless they have GCSE equivalents at grades 9 - 4/A* - C in these subjects).

End Point Assessment (EPA)

This programme is formally assessed by an independent End Point Assessor using two methods weighted equally at 50%.

Strategic Business Proposal, Presentation and Questioning

The learner will work with their employer to identify a Strategic Business Proposal that has a real business benefit, relates to their role and can be undertaken after the Gateway, unaided by the training provider, but supported by the employer. During the EPA period, the learner is required to write their strategic business proposal document/report and presentation. At the live assessment, the learner will deliver their 20-minute presentation which is then followed by a 40-minute question/answer session

Professional Discussion underpinned by a showcase portfolio

The learner will need to participate in a 60-minute professional discussion with their assessor, which is based on the evidence submitted within their showcase portfolio.
