Hattiloo is a 501(c)3 mission non-profit organization. Its mission is "to develop a Black theatre that is accessible to, relevant to, and reflective of a multicultural community." It produces shows that depict Black life and that transcend their entertainment value by giving audiences an authentic, cultural experience. Its program The Self-Identity Theatre Camp helps Black youth acquire tools to care for their emotional selves in inequitable and discriminatorysituations.

Have you ever wondered who else listened to your favorite DJ? People like you, right? You might be surprised. This piece helps you get to know a Jewish lesbian Memphian through a range of personal stories connected to Black radio songs she heard when she needed music most.

Sarah Ellin Siegel spent the 30 years of her IBM career in a range of roles, including managing ibm.com Creative Services; co-founding the company’s LGBTQ business development mission in 2001; and managing IBM Learning Design. After retiring five years ago, Sarah, her wife Pat, and their two cats, moved from Montclair, New Jersey to Memphis, Tennessee. Since then, as a Voices of the South Writers’ Workshop member, Sarah has written a full-length play and three 10-minute plays, all centering Jewish lesbians. Sarah is excited that her newest 10-minute play, Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band Saved This Jewish Lesbian, joins the 2025 winners of Hattiloo Theatre’s 10 Minute Play Black Theatre Festival Competition, and that her new play, Raising Ilana’s Mother, is being produced by Voices of the South at TheatreSouth, May 1-4, 2025. Sarah is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
JAMES COOK is a member of the Hattiloo Theatre Company. He is a versatile and dedicated actor known for several memorable roles across the city. His latest works include director credits for Till Death produced by Three Diamond Productions as well as One Monkey Don't Stop No Show, produced by Moves by Michelle. The actor/director is honored to return to Hattiloo's stage as a director for this festival.
APRIL FREEMAN is a creative specialist with experience in photography, videography, writing, acting, editing, graphic design and artist development. April has portrayed the role as Odessa in The Amen Corner by James Baldwin as well as Jordan in Princeton James’ Royal Family April has a thriving photography business, Freeman Photography, which has created a path to work with many well-known names, businesses, and organizations. April is currently the Media Coordinator for the Memphis Music Initiative and the drummer at Christ Communion Temple Church in Memphis, TN. April is a Chicago native, with deesouthern roots and an everlasting love for music and arts.

Velvet ‘V11VT’ Gunn is an Artist, Author, and Mother. She’s always found creative arts to be a powerful healing outlet. Over time, she discovered that these gifts not only enriched her life, but also the lives of others. Velvet aims to continue creating art and experiences that challenge perspectives and cultivate belonging. Having performed in two Hattiloo productions [ Take The Soul Train to Christmas & Blues In The Night], Velvet is ecstatic to have one of her written works featured and produced by the prestigious Hattiloo Theater. CYDNIE TRICE Cyd has been working in theatre productions for over thirty years. Since she first began her career, she has taken on various roles from director, designer, and actor to prop master, videographer, and stage manager. During her Undergrad at MIT, Cydnie was a part of Uncle Vanya, La Casa de Bernalda Alba, and the Gilbert & Sullivan Players’ musical Trial By Jury Since returning to the Mid-South, Cyd has worked on hundreds of shows and films with Theatre Memphis, The Harrell Theatre, Hattiloo Theatre, Cazateatro, Germantown Community Theatre, New Moon Theatre, Stage 88 Productions, Playhouse on the Square, and Opera Memphis. She’s excited to be a part of Hattiloo’s inaugural 10Minute Play Festival as a director.

KAELYN CLARK is ecstatic to be stepping into the role of Cameron in Peeking, her second live stage play. A proud 29-year-old Black woman with talent, timing, and just the right amount of sass. Kaelyn brings heart, humor, and heat to the stage. When she’s not acting, she’s probably quoting The Color Purple, manifesting joy, or explaining to people that yes, Black people don’t crack Her past credits include From Wrags to Riches, where she played 16 year old Karma. She sends love to her family, friends, and supporters.

DEBRA TOOMBS is delighted to return to the stage playing the role of Aunt Jean. Jean is a living Big Mama symbol who is a stabilizer in many homes today. This is my Hattiloo Theatre debut, after performing in many plays with the Actor's Renaissance, several times as Auntie Iris in the "Sex Play" and also in "Dangerous Entanglements". As a lover of community theatre, I would like to thank my friends who continue to follow and support my endeavors.

Danica Wilks is a proud Native Memphian with roots in the Vollintine Evergreen Historic District. As a free-spirited creative and Southern storyteller, her works include community journalism, facilitating, spoken word, poetry, essays and research. She is a community advocate whose passions embody building community, economic justice, environmental justice and womanism. Danica is a graduate of the University of Memphis, with certificates in DEI and community organizing.
She loves telling stories and amplifying the voices of everyday folk in nuanced ways. She has trained under the Memphis Public Library’s “From The Page to The Stage’ and Midnight and Indigo’s “Playwriting As Activism for Black Women Writers.” Danica is a lover of all things black arts, wanderlust, black joy and culture. She is beyond thrilled that Hattiloo theatre, Memphis’ only black repertory theatre of whose work she’s admired for years is bringing “Cutting Corners” to the stage.
ZAN EDWARDS is a native of Bruce, MS, and a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she earned a BA in Theatre Arts with a minor in Sociology. Credits include: Lorrell in Dreamgirls, Oklahoma, Dionne in Hair, Tina Turner in The Wedding Singer, Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors, Dynamite in Hairspray, Kinky Boots, and Lady in Green in For Colored Girls. Formally, she was a member of Mississippi: The Dance Company for two years Her screen experience comes from her participation in Christmas at Graceland, Texas Heart, and Young Rock. She is more than excited to use this production of Black Odyssey as a springboard into furthering her performance career. Always thanking God, she would also like to thank her family and friends for their love and support.

His talent was recognized with a nomination for an Ostrander Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Division II play for his role in “A Stubborn Holiday” written and directed by Mary Ann Washington at the Actor Renaissance Theater and Theater Works. He was most recently seen in “ A Motown Christmas” and “Thoughts of a Colored Man.”

TAMARA POLLARD-ASH is delighted to be making her debut with Hattiloo Theatre. Recent works include The Blind Man Stage Play and The Dinner 2 Stage Play (It’z a Manz Productions), Dangerous Entanglements IV and Alpha Crying (The Actors Renaissance Theatre), She Writes (Author Glo), and Where’s My Ring (Andre Beatty). Theatre has been her passion since the age of 14 when she entered Marion Jr High School in Marion AR and joined the Drama Club under the direction of Ms. Connie Steele-Simpson, her favorite teacher. Aside from stage, she’s found a second love in film and commercial. When not diving in the arts, she enjoys spending time with her wife, children, granddaughter, and family.

Dabrell Thompson is a dynamic actor, poet, and rapper with a passion for storytelling across various artistic platforms. Based in Memphis, TN, Dabrell has honed his craft through performances with 24Hour Plays, Overflow Stage Productions, Emerald Theatre, Actors Renaissance Theatre, and Three Diamond Productions. As an ensemble member of Playback Memphis Improv Theatre, he brings stories to life through interactive and engaging performances.
In addition to his work in theatre, Dabrell has appeared in multiple short films, including the award-winning Amorphous for Indie Memphis. His dedication to the craft has earned him a nomination for the prestigious Ostrander Award for Best Featured Performer. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing at Full Sail University, Dabrell continues to refine his skills in storytelling and performance, striving to make a lasting impact in the entertainment industry.

MATTHEW MARSEILLE is a Brooklyn native of Afro-Caribbean descent who moved to Memphis in 2018. He is a multidisciplinary creative, educator, author, and proud father. Najwa Watson is a multifaceted creative artist, actress, poet, dancer, singer, teacher, and writer from Memphis, Tennessee. Making her playwriting debut, she gives honor and thanks to God for the gift of creation and for the connections that inspired the characters in this work.
Since the age of five, Najwa has found healing and transformation through creative expression. Elderberry was born from this journey, and it is her prayer that this piece helps others heal, reveal, revisit, evolve, and speak their truths. She is grateful to share this moment and extends special appreciation to her high school theatre teacher, Ms. Paulette Regan, who first challenged her to craft a monologue and tell a story. Najwa is currently 30 years old, and she continues to share her gifts with Hattiloo and through her service to programming for Hattiloo youth.

The year is 2041. A former world-class athlete from Memphis has fallen on hard times and is now a squatter in a blues museum where he comes out at night to converse with a hologram of famous blues artist, Taj Mahal, his only friend.
Levi Frazier, Jr. is a playwright, author, actor, director, producer, and educator with a distinguished career in the arts. After a 15-year career at Southwest Tennessee Community College, where he served as Associate Professor and Theatre Manager, he retired in 2021 and now dedicates his time to the Beale Street Repertory Company and Blues City Cultural Center, which he co-founded and where he serves as Artistic Director. A prolific playwright, Frazier has penned over fifty plays, including “A Helping Hand,” “Big Ten, You’re Different,” “For Our Children,” “Ramesses the Great,” “A Sad State of Affairs,” and “Down on Beale Street.” “Down on Beale Street,” a musical, enjoyed a successful off-Broadway run at the Richard Allen Center in New York. His work has been produced nationally in major theatrical markets and internationally, including at the Sorbonne in Paris, France.
Adding to his diverse talents, Frazier has also appeared in films such as “Walking Tall II,” “The Firm,” and “The Chamber.” He holds degrees from Rhodes College and the University of Memphis.

CHASITY ALLISTON has enjoyed her run here at Hattiloo, and is back once again, but this time as DIRECTOR! She was recently in Black Odyssey, but more known as Myrt in Carmen and Sandra in Confederates. Celebrating her 23rd year in showbiz, she's also appeared in other productions such as Little Shop of Horrors, Harvey, No Exit, and many others She's been a film actress for 6 years, starring in Down Bad and Ease the Pain, Deposit, and Checklist (TubiTv and Amazon Prime). Chasity will be starring as Charlayne in Aint Misbehavin in June 2025 with Theater Memphis. She wishes to thank her family and friends for being super supportive!

ASHUNDRA BERNARD is thrilled to be making her Hattiloo Theatre debut! A proud Memphis native, she is a seasoned singer, actress, writer, and performer with a rich background in theater, classical/secular music, and recording Her recent stage credits include Little Shop of Horrors (Crystal) at the Harrell Theater, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Swing/Ensemble) at Theatre Memphis, Sunday Morning, Juneteenth, and various showcase performances with the Young Actors Guild, where she serves as an alumna and board member. Up next, you can catch her in Ain’t Misbehavin’ at Theatre Memphis. Offstage, Ashundra is a dedicated Registered Nurse and founder of Test Anywhere Medical Lab. She is passionate about merging creativity and service and looks forward to growing in both fields. Deepest thanks to her village for the unwavering love and support every step of the way.

LUCIEN WHITE Born in 2007, Memphis Tennessee, Lucien White has been acting since elementary being blessed with great opportunities. As an outgoing and extroverted person, he's always willing to speak his mind and spread his ideas. Although he has mainly preformed in stage plays, such as "Black Odyssey" at Hattiloo Theater or “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat” at Overton High, he's also been featured on Fox 13, played roles in short films, and has been chosen to deliver a TED talk. Referred to as "young talent" he hopes to continue receiving great opportunities and support.

PATRICIA SMITH (Theatre Production Manager) has an extensive resume which includeshermostrecentperformanceasJudgeDunbaronNBC'sBluffCityLaw.She performedinAin'tMisbehavinandAsst.DirectedLadyDayatEmerson'sBarandGrill, bothinMilan,Italy.ShedirectedHattiloo'sBlackNativitywiththeMemphisSymphony Orchestra.Shehasmanycreditsperforming,directing,andcostumingshowshereat Hattiloo Theatre, however, most recently she directed and costumed "Lady Day at Emerson'sBarandGrill"and"MarieandRosetta" Shewaslastseenperformingin "Raisin"themusicalasLenaYounger.
ROSANNA SMITH (Office Manager) a Tennessee native from southwest Memphis, is the eldest of nine children born to Rev. J. W. Smith, Sr., and Lillie B. Smith. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1967 and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. Her career began in 1970 as a Reservationist at American Express, followed by a role as an Office Manager at Murphy Oil Company.
Rosanna earned an Associate Degree in Accounting and Data Processing from Memphis School of Commerce in 1973 and worked as an assistant bookkeeper at Goodwill Industries before joining Kroger in 1974. She served as an accounting clerk and office manager at Kroger until her retirement in 2002. After retirement, she worked at Katz Worldwide Logistics and the Shelby County Health Department until late 2013.
In her religious community, Rosanna was an Administrative Assistant and Church Clerk at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for 33 years and held various educational roles at Kimbrough Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Lamar, Mississippi. She has received numerous awards and certificates for her contributions to Christian education and community service.
JARROD WALKER (Theatre Manager) an imaginative trailblazer, is fueled by an inherent passion for creativity. Jarrod has immersed himself in event coordination, theater direction, and product launches for over two decades Whether orchestrating weddings, plays, or other significant life events, his ability to infuse creativity into every project is the driving force behind his success.
As an accomplished event professional, administrative assistant, and theater director, he is dedicated to crafting unparalleled experiences for his clients and audiences. From providing essential administrative support to executing productions, he has played a pivotal role in turning clients’ dreams into tangible realities. For Jarrod Walker, the possibilities are boundless when creativity takes center stage, and his journey continues to be a testament to the transformative power of artistic innovation.
NAJWA WATSON (Engagement Coordinator) a Memphis native of Jamaican descent, brings over 14 years of administrative expertise to her role at Hattiloo Theatre. Her commitment spans nearly 15 years, reflecting a profound dedication to community and service. Najwa excels in organizing, project support, delivering exceptional customer service, and coordinating special events. Hattiloo is not just her workplace but her second home, where she contributes proudly as a professional, performer, and creative force. With gratitude and honor, she will consistently embody Hattiloo's values through her endeavors.
