MANAGER NOTES

NE AL ARDLEY

Good afternoon and welcome to John Askey and everyone connected with Truro.

After doing a fantastic job last season naturally Truro had some adapting to do but they have been competitive in every game and have a good team spirit and energy that’ll make it a really tough game.We come here on the back of more ups and downs in our form.

Sutton we deserved to win, and they scored with their only shot on target. Boreham Wood

was a game of two halves with us being totally out of sorts first half but stronger in the second.

Tuesday night against Solihull was a complete performance with regards to defending our box, bravery with the ball, and shape and team ethic without the ball. Hopefully we can replicate some of those qualities today.

Enjoy the game Ards

IN sAfE HANDs

As a reminder, it is our goal to ensure that all supporters feel safe and welcome at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

To that end, on 11 December 2021, the Club launched the “In Safe Hands” programme to help our fans report racist, sexist, homophobic, or other abusive language simply and anonymously.

If you hear any abusive language, experience it yourself or if you or someone you see feels / looks threatened, you can text the Club anonymously and the message will be monitored by our Safety Officer during the match. Simply text WFC (followed by the nature of your concern and location) to 66777 and we will address your concerns. Example: If you hear racial abuse whilst sitting in the KRE, please send the following text to 66777: “WFC racial abuse centre section of KRE.”

AHEAD of THE GAME

Woking aim to secure back-toback wins for the first time this season when they host newly promoted Truro City.

Tuesday night’s 3-0 win at Solihull following an outstanding second half performance saw both Olly Sanderson and Josh Kelly on the scoresheet, and Neal Ardley will have a dilemma as to who starts against Truro.

With this being the last game before the Cards’ FA Cup campaign starts next weekend, it’s a chance for Woking to build some momentum and climb up the table, so come down to the Laithwaite and cheer the Cards on.

OPPOSITION WATCH

Surprise National League South champions Truro City are at their highest ever level, and are understandably struggling to adapt to national football against mostly professional teams. Two wins, both at home against Boston and Morecambe, have seen them score eight across those games and concede none, which makes for unpleasant reading considering they’ve scored eleven in total and picked up seven points thus far, with their only other result a 2-2 draw at home to nine man Aldershot Town.

15:00 Kick-Off

Still, in John Askey Truro have a vastly experienced manager at the helm, and he will know there’s a long, long way to go yet. The Tinners kept the majority of their title winning squad, but injuries leave them short up front at the moment, with serial goalscorer Tyler Harvey the biggest name of the casualties.

It is well documented that Truro have the longest away days of any team in the division. Remarkably, this is one of their ‘shortest’ trips as they will hope to pick up their first away point after six straight defeats.

Tickets are available via the link here.

Members of the Supporter Liaison Group will be by the fan wall after the game, if you want to speak to them and share any ideas or feedback.

ONE TO WATCH

Luke Jephcott’s first full season in football saw him score 18 goals for Plymouth Argyle in 2020/21 as a 21 year old. It hasn’t quite gone to plan for him since then, with a fruitless spell at Newport, but six goals last season on loan saw Truro sign him permanently, and he’s netted four times in all competitions thus far.

BOREHAM

30th September 2025

Neal Ardley’s Woking arrived at the ARMCO Arena winless in four and desperate for a result against a Solihull side whose fortunes had started to turn. Ardley brought in Aiden O’Brien, Jamie Andrews, Olly Sanderson, Aaron Drewe and Jack Turner for Timi Odusina, Timmy Akinola, Matt Ward, Jake Forster-Caskey and Josh Kelly.

A low key start saw Moors try and test the backline with long throw after long throw, but nothing was falling for them. It took until past the half hour mark for a significant chance of note when Callum McFarlane benefitted from a ricochet to collect the ball inside the box, but his shot on the swivel went wide.

Woking’s first shot saw Turner let fly from range and had Laurie Walker worried for half a second before going wide of the corner, before two openings for Sanderson just before half time nearly saw the Cards go in one up.

First, a similar situation to the McFarlane one saw the Fulham loanee hit the target but he was brilliantly denied by Walker, the former Barnet keeper at full stretch to tip over. Solihull wanted a foul after a collision minutes later, but Sanderson raced through and smashed an effort against the crossbar and back out again. Better from the Cards, who finished the half the stronger and would be hoping for more in the second half.

Half time: Solihull Moors 0-0 Woking

It took just five minutes for Woking to take a deserved lead, when a well worked move saw the ball shifted out to Drewe, whose cross was tapped in at the back post by Sanderson.

The Cards would double their lead just after the hour mark when Drewe was found inside the box from an Andrews long throw, powering a header into the top corner and from there, Moors heads dropped and Woking killed off the game.

Wakeling was lively all night, and denied well by the body of Jaaskelainen after he evaded the defence, but when the ball fell to substitute Kelly inside the box with just under 15 minutes to play, there was one thing on his mind as he drilled low past Walker to give the Cards a unassailable lead.

There was a chance for fellow sub Josh Osude to get his name on the scoresheet, but he fired wide, before Ward, also off the bench, fired over with the last kick of the game.

All in all, a fantastic night for the Cards, who deserved the scoreline and were excellent at a tough place to go and get three points. The focus moves swiftly onto the visit of Truro City to the Laithwaite on Saturday.

Sanderson (50'),
Drewe (61'), Kelly (76')

John Askey was appointed as Truro City manager in June 2024, replacing Paul Wotton after he left to join the Tinners’ divisional rivals Torquay United. After hanging up his boots, Askey had two spells in charge of Macclesfield with the second of those, between 2013 and 2018, resulting in Macclesfield returning to the Football League, despite severe financial constraints. His achievements with Macclesfield resulted in a managerial move to

Will DEAN

Will Dean joined the club on a permanent basis in 2021 after his release from Exeter City. He progressed through the Grecians’ academy set-up and had his first taste of senior football with City, on loan, during the 2019-20 campaign. Despite that term being cut short by the covid-19 pandemic, Dean was voted Players’ Player of the Year.Returning to Exeter, Dean made his senior debut for the Devonians in a 2-2 draw with Salford City in September 2020. More loan experience followed that season when Dean, who was born in Hedge End, made a temporary switch to Bath City.

And then, at the conclusion of 20-21, Dean left Exeter and joined Truro, where he has been a mainstay of the Tinners’ side ever since. Playing as both a midfielder and defender last season, Dean was a consistent presence in the team, iconically featuring in the title clincher against St Albans City, complete with a white head band after suffering a head gash in the season’s penultimate fixture at Weston-superMare.
